Means jack sh1t. Just because you are asymptomatic does in no way mean you got off scot-free since the long term effects of covid are not yet full understood.

I myself only recently, after a heart MRI, discovered damage there as a result of pericarditis due to a virus I never even knew I had.

I thankfully have no complications from that damage but anyone thinking that catching this virus and being asymptomatic means you're fine in the long run, think again.

So what you're saying is this relatively rare side effect can be caused by any virus, not just Covid?

Yes. There may be some beds reserved for major surgery. Currently reserved beds counted in the operation report total four beds nationwide.

Obviously not good if system reaches so much pressure that major surgeries are cancelled because of lack of availability of an ICU bed in particular hospital.

Also counting ICU beds like Cardiac ICU in Mater and Neuro ICU in Beaumont .
Serious trouble if these beds are needed to be used for Covid .

How many ICU beds are occupied by a covid case?

If a patient is sent down to ICU in a hospital that patient takes up a bed. Are other beds closed by that patient?

What I mean is do they close an ICU ward or room with multiple beds in it to stop the spread of covid through the ICU and maintain quarantine?

You responded to my query of why the gyms should close.
Like I said, where is the proof that gym are a "covids wet dream" as you put it? I havent heard of any cases being linked to them.

Just because you haven't heard of any cases linked to gyms here doesn't mean it's not happening. The reason why we don't have detailed data that can show the link is because the CT system is not sophisticated enough here to do so. But NSW have done studies that have linked it to clusters. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/sep/16/covid-free-or-high-risk-environment-can-gyms-be-safe

CDC have said it's airborne, so it makes sense that when virus rates are high, gyms become infinitely riskier.

Yea too right man, close the gyms now, they cause the virus! Who said being fit and healthy will stop things like heart disease and respiratory disease? Nah!

Close the Gyms now and let's all sit at home chill out and relax with a few beers and smokes while binge watching Netflix for hours on end!

There's never any middle ground anymore :)

I was gonna do some workouts at home instead of the gym, but nope smoking, I'm taking up smoking...

It isn't a binary choice, there is nothing stopping you going for a walk or lifting the sofa 100 times.

    HSE operations report for 10/10

    198 in hospital
30 in ICU with 19 of those ventilated
2 deaths in ICU last 24 hours.

Confirmed cases in all (adult) hospital.

Cavan with the most in hospital with 22 after only having 3 with Covid a few days ago. As already stated an outbreak in hospital is the reason for that rise.

Thanks for the breakdown. The private house piece is the bit I would like to understand more. How did the cases get into the house originally, I.e. someone returning from travelling & infected the rest, caught in a hospital, caught in a meat factory etc. If people fully understood, they might make better decisions.

The HSE should order 3 million doses of Regeneron from the Trump administration.

As referenced earlier the numbers in Cavan hospital are indeed related to an outbreak in Cavan hospital.

Some wards are closed and some elective surgery cancelled.

    Urgent cases only being admitted

The fact that Kerry is doing so well in keeping the numbers down has surprised me. The world and his mother was in Kerry during the Summer which suggests that travel around the country didn't have an impact. Fully appreciate that population is very spread out there and there's no city centres and towns are smaller but it's probably one of the great outliers in terms of keeping the numbers low given the number of visitors. What's different there?

People who were young previously healthy but didn’t do something about covid in a timely manner have and are suffering permanent lung fibrosis. This is a condition that can be improved but in the main not reversible... athletes, young professionals, people in the prime of their lives have been diagnosed in this manner.

What can you 'do about covid in a timely manner' other than trying not to catch it?

I'm happy your friends are all ok but not everyone is so lucky!!

I note the way you worded that. Passed away how ? It's not uncommon for a 51 year old to die of any cause. His positive test may be completely unrelated?

Your treble negative has me utterly confused. What are you trying to say?

SF SD PBP(probably the next government) has promised free healthcare to a gold standard and waiting times as short as the USA.

Currently 30 ICU beds occupied by confirmed Covid cases. Cases are placed in isolated rooms within ICUs or if there are multiple confirmed cases in one ICU, those cases can be cohorted or grouped together in one open plan area.

Suspected cases are isolated but cannot be cohorted beside confirmed positive cases or beside confirmed negative cases or beside other suspected cases. Some hospitals have more than one ICU area so have designated Covid and non-Covid areas.

Testing is prioritized for patients in/being admitted to critical care areas as logistics of bed placement are complicated especially when ICUs operating at high occupancy rates. Some patients admitted from home via ED directly to ICU. Others are transferred from within hospital as can deteriorate a few days after admission. In cases where transferred from within hospital, Covid status is usually already known.

If there is an outbreak in Cavan hospital, I assume most aren’t in primarily due to Covid and probably don’t even have symptoms?

Just happened to test positive while in hospital.
