We need to hold steady. Level 3 restrictions will plateau this virus.
Hang in there, and let's not destroy eachother, for 24 counties, case numbers will continue to increase for next 7 days, so expect a bumpy road.

Let's hope so, we can flatten the curve again, take care stay safe

    XOXO

The Italian government is raising the alarm over a surge in hospitalisations.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/2020/1009/1170554-coronavirus-europe/

In fact, right across Europe today the situation has deteriorated in terms of cases, hospitalisations, critical care and increasing daily fatalities.

Europe is looking to co-ordinate a response but I think we will see countries doing their own thing again sooner rather than later and it will be interesting to see what policies will be in relation to potential new border restrictions between EU countries.

So. the country is rampant with it, so rte decide to send Marty and god knows how many cameramen, makeup artist, etc to Donegal to talk sh1te about a match that isn't happening, and Perry to Derry for absolutely no good reason, the mind boggles. Neither is a necessary journey and well outside the Dublin boundary order

We are at the same restrictions as Dublin  I have literally no idea what you're rambling on about.
You realise the whole country is at level 3, yes?

Not . And not rambling at all.. no need for rudeness .
Wet pubs are open in all counties except Dublin and Donegal .

Level 3 would appear to be having a stabilising effect on Dublin

Yup, even going by number of patients in Dublin hospitals.
The questions are, can level 3 get it down and fast enough and can the rest of the counties follow.
If so, it was a good (lucky call) by the government, if not, they feicked up!

Can anyone tell me the turn around time from getting a covid test and getting your result? I've to be tested tomorrow (shortness of breath and chest pains feels like lungs but it's very mild pain)
Will I know the result by Sunday?

Can range from 12 hours to 48 hours

I dont get that though, according to 2020 census the population of Dublin is about 1.2million; Cork ~200k.

    So should it be 6x?

AFAIK 'Cork' here indicates the whole county which has a pop of about 500,000 so 2 1/2 would be the multiplier.

The death rate up North is a lot lower per case.
Either they are super healthy or we count them differently.

No surprise there. Sure during 1st wave in UK if you didn't die in hospitial you didn't die of Covid. So most of nursing home cases were not counted as Covid.

    Mad stuff altogether.

If only we had gave as much of a **** about hospital admissions before covid we would be a lot better off now.

Am I wrong in thinking all kinds of pubs are shut all over the country, and only those who can serve outside can serve up to 15 people?

Gardai don't even wear masks anywhere i have seen them, talk about leading by example.

In fairness I think they have improved. I have been at 4 checkpoints this week + Gardai wearing them at every one of them.

I mentioned Kerry and Meath and somehow that means I was defending Cork

This thread has gone to the dumps. Any sort of normal, measured discussion is long gone.

Talking about county to county instead of city to city ...

Population of Dublin City proper is only 554,554

In both cases you get figures that either in take in their whole county of Dublin which is roughly 1,173,179 and mostly urban or you get ludicrous definitions of the Greater Dublin Area that are taking in Louth, Kildare, Wicklow etc as a metro area, which they’re not.

The Dublin hospitals probably serve an area of about 1.9m

Cork is about 300,000 urban/hinterland but those hospitals are serving the county and beyond which is at least 570,000 people. The hospitals service probably up to 1m for advanced & high tech medicine.

The hospital system in Ireland generally is under resourced but the situation in Cork is ludicrous.

A major new public hospital should have been built. It’s been discussed for years but without any progress and in reality was far, far more urgent than the NCH white elephant and now we very may well see why!

They can offload a significant number of cases to the Bons (which is a big private hospital - bigger than any of the other Bons as it’s their HQ 344 beds, advanced scanning, radiotherapy etc), the Mater Private (not that big) and also to the South Infirmary/Victoria which is more focused on elective ENT, eyes and joint surgeries.

So basically it’s going to mean loads of cancelled or very long postponed procedures.

My local area (Kimmage/Rathmines) seems to be very high. Im thinking this is due to the sheer density of the area and the fact so many houses are shared?

Yes. That was never true. Local lockdowns are being implemented across the continent and national measures are tightening.

    It's no different to here.
