It’s colder in the north. More people indoors with windows closed.

Is it that much colder as to be actually significant?

Is that backlog mainly to buy time for the government announcements. Leo saying look at hospitalisations as a metric etc when we clearly know there is a lag.

Is it just to prime the conversation that we have to have with ourselves?

    Quick answer - no.

    Northern England, massive Covid numbers..
    Northern Ireland, massive Covid numbers.

    Why?

Northern people have more foreign holidays?

One reason given on BBC news the other day was northern people have less opportunity to work from home than southern people (service industry being more predominant in southern areas)....that....and, basically how rich/poor you are!

I got tested yesterday as I have a few symptoms, cough, shortness of breath, joint pain and a sore throat.

So got a call from the doc this afternoon, turns out I have it. Still waiting on confirmation from HSE and contact tracers to get in touch but I can imagine they are slammed right now tbf to them.

Whole family has to be tested now obviously. Not a whole pile of other contacts outside of that thank God!

This has the markings of a casedemic with questions of the validity of PCR testing picking out old COVID fragments but not actual active viruses. Deaths still relatively low compared to Spring and slowly rising now, probably like any previous year as we head through the fall.

    Respiratory deaths in NI 2010 - 2016 as a comparison: 1886,1923,2023,2124,2004,2236,1973

    https://www.nisra.gov.uk/sites/nisra.gov.uk/files/publications/Deaths_Cause_LGD2014_0814.xlsx

As of Oct 2nd, 2020: 3646 (28.6%) deaths for respiratory death in NI including COVID:
    https://www.nisra.gov.uk/sites/nisra.gov.uk/files/publications/Deaths%20Registered%20in%20NI%20-%20Week%2039%202020.pdf

"The number and proportion of respiratory deaths is higher in the year-to-date than the 5-year average (3,354; 28.5%)(Table 2)."

Not a huge difference if I have my maths right.

Why wasn’t this “casedemic” apparent in June and July?

Think the German labs are just used for serial testing when we need them. 15,000 no longer the limit. Reid said 19,500 were done yesterday.

16,522 tests last 24hrs. Yesterday 15,888. Extra 3,000 from where?

Probably over 1% of Northern Irish people have become infected in the last few days

Still so little focus on ventilation, its unbelievable. It's an easy thing to do. Open a window, open a door, turn up ventilation systems.

This 2 meters for 15 min thing was heavily pushed from the beginning and we seem to consider it gospel unfortunately.

When I enter a building my main focus is how ventilated a room is and then how well diatanced can I be from people.

I saw on the LUAS they've a sign up saying do not close on every window along the whole tram. Dont know if it's new or not though.

My gym is a big issue, there's no ventilation whatsoever, in fact it's noticeably ****ter than everywhere. Condensation running down the walls, windows completely fogged up and never open, and this was in September before it even started getting cold. If an infected person went to my gym I'd say almost everybody else present would become infected

Have had to get a few tradesmen into the house recently, and I'm sure some of them think we are mad with all the windows and doors open while they are there. The evidence everywhere is that ventilation is hugely important in preventing the spread of this thing, and it's not hard to do.

I'd be sitting them down and telling them there is no such thing as Santa from 2 meters.

    Take care and Mind yourself.

Jesus H Christ, the north is a basket case. I was up there with the family back in July for holidays. It was clear at that stage they weren't taking too many precautions on a personal level.

Now they're saying that they can't afford a lockdown because they've no money and they need Boris to write a check. Will the Unionists finally realise that London doesn't really care about what goes on up there?

Think they would rather die than acknowledge that
