In an ideal world yes, but the profits being reinvested for the good of the club, not lining the pockets of already wealthy businessmen.

Calvert-Lewin scoring on his England debut Carlo has turned him into a goal scoring machine.

The young lad is having some start to the season, hope the English media don't start their usual carry on with young English players

He hasn't been a nothing player for a good while now so you must not watch football. Always showed promise and a willingness to learn, just being played in the right position/formation now.

I've been talking him up for years. Most talented young English striker since Shearer imo. He has the brain to go with the skills.
I think he'll go on to become a great, not just good, one.

He might be great..but in fairness to Shearer he exploded on the scene at 17, Calvert Lewin is 23...by which time Shearer was banging in 30 goals a season...

The first time Shearer had 20+ league goals in a season he was 23. He was very like Calvert-Lewin learning his trade and improving year after year.

    Harry Kane? Wayne Rooney?

Since shearer? That's an outlandish claim when there has been Rooney since and currently Kane. Not to mention, Fowler, and Owen. The most technically gifted english striker I've seen was Sturridge, but he was made of glass.

Dom's decent to good and can cause trouble and uncomfort to anyone but lets not go over board,

Lets not forget for some reason nobody can defend this season probably due to lack of fans having a bigger effect than people thought,

To call him the best since Shearer right now is incorrect , it could become correct but right now its miles from the truth ,
For example he currently has 30 Prem goals at his age Owen had 83 ,

There's going to be an option to watch the games not on Sky / BT from next weekend. But you have to pay 15 quid per game. per game!!! madness. Only driving people towards illegal streams more.

They’ll shut down the illegal streams more now I think if there’s even more money on the line.

I wonder how the ppv will work over here for people not on Sky TV.

wonder how that money is going to be distributed.

Sky/BT will be facilitating it, so obviously need to be paid.
But why would the clubs allow Sky/BT to make the money on it, so they have to be getting a cut too - clubs could be looking at is covering some amount of the loss of income from not having fans in the stadium. The other possibility is sky/bt pocket it all, and don't claw back (further?) money from the current TV deal based on the 'product' being altered with no fans in the stadium.

Answers might be in that article, but I'm not subscribed.

So BT/Sky covering their costs, profits going to the clubs. Wonder, further, if those profits are split between the two clubs being shown, evenly, or majority to home side, or even all of it going into a spot that is then split 20 ways. I would guess the 20 way pot.

15 feels too high a price.
I'd have considered €10, to be honest, but £15 (€18?) is too high.

€9.99 and I would pay for every Liverpool league game in a season.

If they were €4.99 I'd probably get another 20-30 games in the year on top of that.

Premflix can't be far off now if this is the start to PPV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,668 ✭✭✭✭JPA

You should be able to subscribe to your clubs games or all games or pick and choose from clubs.
    Can't be far off.

    I hope not.

Would mean a horrible reallocation of TV money to the big few clubs and kill the competitive nature of the EPL

It could do. It may not.

Any money earned from streaming could be pooled and distributed in the exact same way it is now.

here here! I've long thought this was the best thing for actual fans and the game, obviously Sky and BT would hate it as their business model goes tits up (unless they remain the gatekeepers hosting channels) but IPTV for each club is perfectly feasible and a simple sliding scale rebate could be put in place to "level out" income so that Burnley and West Brom are not at a disadvantage.

Big clubs would be required to put everything over an agreed amount into a general PL pot which would then be divided up so the likes of Burnley get say 15% but Man City, Liverpool etc get just 1 or 2%. I'm sure with a bit of work it could be agreed in theory at least :)

Why? If Sky or Amazon or whoever did it then it could still operate as now, the money is evenly distributed.

And it doesn't have to replace television, at least not for a while.

Before the last TV deal, there was talk of the PL looking into streaming, if the TV deals looked like they were going to drop in value significantly.

They surely have to be looking at this again now in the current climate.

I think one reason they didn't go this route is the logistics of running it are quite costly. They'd have to have a company in place to do the filming etc, as well as a company to provide and maintain the streaming infrastructure.

Not a quick thing to do, would take a long time to put in place.
