Ozil is now the biggest piss taker since "Chelsea's" Winston Lloyd Bogarde

I was literally going to post about him. I read somewhere that Bogarde was the model pro. Never missed a training session - first one in and last one out, the way he saw it was “if the manager doesn’t pick me, not much I can do about it.”

I don't think he even made the bench for the league cup team....whats going on?

They want rid of him and he’s not in Artetas plans going forward. So why would they play him? He’s entitled to see out his contract (not his fault that it’s on obscene wages), but he won’t be playing any football for the next season. He hasn’t been registered for the Europa League and most likely won’t be registered for the Premier League squad. This is good news, as maybe Arteta will stop being asked about it.

Okay, I'll declare my obvious bias first. I'm a Spurs fan.

The Athletic are reporting that Ozil is on an £8m loyalty bonus to see out his contract at Arsenal. He's on £350k a week which is £18m a year. That'll give him £26m to sit on his hole for the year. Arsenal must have been desperate not to lose him after Sanchez to have agreed to that. It's obscene.

It did make me laugh I have to say. Madness.

You'd think if he had any sense of pride and decency he'd move club.

Not write off his contract, mind you. Arsenal agreed to pay him that, and he has no reason to give them a break. But he could surely find some club where he'd get to play and they'd cover some of the wages.

As it stands, in a world where so many wonder where they'll get their next meal, the whole situation is grotesque and obscene.

I think people just assume that when the club want you to leave, you’re obliged to go somewhere for less salary or you’re a waster.

Contract length is only allowed be a security measure for the club to some.

That’s not to say there aren’t also some legitimate wasters who barely try.

He lived in Amsterdam and flew in everyday for training. Amazing he never missed one!

    Lol what?

Would you leave your current company for more work and less pay?

    He's living the dream.

I think if you applied the Ozil situation to my dull dreary office job, he's living the dream but for a talented elite footballer I'm sure he'd prefer to be playing, albeit while still being paid ridiculous wages by Arsenal

My understanding is that some of that £350k per week is down to playing time, and without playing him the club can save up to £100k per week.

When he isn't in Arteta's plans then obviously it makes sense to save that money for someone that is in the plans.

He wouldn't be down anything though because the club has offered to pay the remainder of his contract up.

    Including the loyalty bonus ?

    Including the loyalty bonus ?

That wasn't mentioned in the report I read, but I'd presume not.

I suppose it depends on his feelings towards football.

To answer your question, If I had millions in the bank, more than enough to live a life of luxury, and I was moving to do something I loved, which I couldn't do in my current job, absolutely I'd take a pay cut and work more.

But, we've no idea if Ozil is arsed playing or not so my answer has no real relevance!

I would think the evidence suggests he has no interest in playing otherwise he would have moved.

I think it's fans assumptions that all footballers love football. For some it's just a job. Didn't that Spurs LB say before football was just a job to him? Assou Ekotti I think? South African. I definitely spelt his name wrong

Ok this makes sense. I didn't buy the excuse that he's just not wanted. It's the combination of him not being wanted and it costing them to play him.

For me it's just having a bit of pride and dignity and not wanting to be the poster boy for the indulged multi millionaire footballer who contributes nothing while his employer sacks the cleaning staff and dinner ladies.

I agree he need not take a cut. Arsenal signed the Contract, there is no reason for him to allow them tear it up.

But surely he could find a club in London, a QPR or a West Ham, that would say pay 20 or 30k a week towards his wage and he could tog out. This sitting around shrugging his shoulders and saying he's on a contract puts him at the centre of an obscene situation.

I don't think anybody thinks that except you? How is it Ozils fault the club are sacking other employees?

Lets be honest here, if Ozil left, his wages wouldn't go to those staff they'd go to another player.

And I'd say plenty think the situation where someone gets millions and sits around is obscene.

I'm sure in his eyes, he's been wronged by the club in how they've treated him and they signed this massive contract so why not wait it out for a year. He'll be 32 when his contract is up, £26m richer, and he'll still have a few years of his career left. Not playing and travelling now also reduces his chances of catching Covid so it's not the worst time to be sitting on your arse.

Most people in his position wouldn't move.

But he's not sitting around by his choice at Arsenal? He's not refusing to play football for Arsenal. The club are choosing for him not to play.

I assume he is still fulfilling his training schedule etc as required by his contract unless anyone can correct me if i'm wrong? I don't recall seeing any articles of him refusing to train etc

I think that's a valid point. Imagine having anxiety issues and living in that particular fishbowl?

Assou-Ekotto. Cameroonian. Used to show up for the games and not know who they were playing!

Steve Finnan is another who just saw it as a job. He was unreachable for the 10 year Istanbul anniversary until finally located working a property business in London with his brother and said he wasn't interested in attending

A job he was bloody good at mind

He's probably going through the motions.

If I was presented with the option of a player who wanted to play, who was hungry to play, who presented that desire in training and another who was doing what he was contractually obliged to do and no further, I would be picking the former over the latter every week in and out.

I can't remember seeing Ozil in the media declaring a 'come get me' or that he wanted to regain his place. I might be wrong about that. He seems to have checked out. He won't play again for Germany. He doesn't even have that motivation to regain a national team place; in fairness he has his own legitimate reasons for that - in his own eyes at least.

No come-and-get-me’s that I can recall, though he did have plenty of posts about wanting to play, or being disappointed/upset not to be playing. Those have obviously stopped as it’s become clear over the months that the decision has been made and isn’t changing.

I also think the club actively distancing themselves from his comments about the genocide of the Uighur Muslim population really damaged relations and probably killed what goodwill he had towards the powers that be at Arsenal.

    <Edit>
    From August;
"I have given a lot to Arsenal, on and off the pitch, so the reaction was disappointing. They said they don't get involved in politics but this isn't politics and they have got involved in other issues.

"In America, we saw George Floyd killed and the world spoke up to say Black Lives Matter, and that is correct. We are all equal and it's a good thing that people fight against injustice.

"There are a lot of black players and fans of Arsenal and it's fantastic the club is backing them.

"But I wish people would have done the same for the Muslims because Arsenal have many Muslim players and fans as well, and it is important for the world to say that Muslim Lives Matter."

Surprised by that from Batigol. He was very passionate on the field. He also stayed with Florentina when they were relegated to get them promoted rather than take a big move.

Same, only read it in an article earlier, (https://www.givemesport.com/1559414-12-famous-players-who-dont-really-like-football-following-marcandre-ter-stegens-admission#:~:text=One%20of%20the%20best%20strikers,the%20Sunday%20Times%2C%20per%20Eurosport.)

He's the only player to score hat-tricks in multiple and consecutive world cups too, one for a table quiz some day

Yeah he's sort of got a point there in fairness, though the fact that he was chummy with Erdogan undermines those concerns for me as I detest him. Nothing against the Turkish people but I don't have time for that guy.
