Skynews leading headline is about COVID almost everyday and half of the other main headlines on the page are usually covid related

Though I would agree Ireland and Irish people are more preoccupied with COVID than most other countries. It is still a major issue and main news source in most countries of the world however.

You started a thread on this, where many people with experience in these techniques corrected your assumptions.

That you're still propagating this crap is discraceful.

The biggest issue with the line being peddled by drunkmonkey and others is all those false positives that should have shown up in June and July if true. It’s a fundamental misunderstanding of the statistical basis of analytical test method error

This is the newspaper with the largest circulation in Spain according to wikipedia
    https://www.abc.es/?ref=https:%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F

Covid is the top five stories today. But then if course it is, they're facing into a second disaster in six months

    Germany's largest paper (I think):
    https://www.spiegel.de/

Covid had the top three stories today.

UK's (regretfully a link to the sun):
    https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/

Covid is the top 9 stories today.

It's the same in just about every country with a free press and a crisis.

Fair enough, just hearing from guys i used to work with who travel through Europe with work that people are just getting on with it over there, especially Spain their bars are packed they are gone back to some bit normal. I do agree that someone travelling to Dublin from another country might also have that view about here.

Hardly hysteria, its everywhere. Every main headline on rte is about covid, every TV or radio station all they do is talk about covid. Other countries are not like us, they are not obsessed with it like us.

You're for the birds. Every news outlet the world over is obsessed with covid.

Sky news/Euronews/CNN/NHK its wall to wall COVID COVID COVID. WFH all I do is flick between them during the day so I know what I'm talking about.

How shameful are some of the academics looking for publicity

A trinity professor in epidemiology saying Dublin is still rising exponentially

    How pathetic

I hope he is sanctioned for spreading misinformation

The problem is not the schools. In august quite a number of younger people went abroad on holidays and no doubt the virus was imported into the country and it’s been circulating and growing since then.

With the odd case imported here and there and with people extending their social circle, the case rate has gone up..

    This.
Towards the end of August there seemed to be a sudden surge of people going to Greek islands, Portugal... anywhere that the green list allowed that particular Week.
On one hand we were asked to holiday at home, but at the same time there was push to get back to normal as quickly as possible, along with a narrative that Covid was pretty much gone.

How do you know is NOT right. I dunno either, but would need a bit of proof myself.

Anyway here we are going into Winter which in a NORMAL timeframe is challenging.

Can't wait for December 21st, it turns then.

    Have to stay positive :p

They are just getting on with dying in Spain... highest deaths since Spring.
And in response bars in Madrid ordered to close early and reduce capacity by half.
