Did victory celebrations after GAA county finals cause the surge of Covid cases?

A lot of anecdotal evidence of large clusters stemming from these finals...

It is funny that people laugh at the like of Gemma O'Doherty and Jim Corr for being crazies and at the same time believe that the government are somehow manipulating data to blame pubs and house parties...
Everyone in society is effectively treated like a criminal if they refuse to comply with an ever expanding laundry list of government mandates that either make no sense, have no basis in scientific reality, or that often contradict each other in different settings. By not complying with the rules, its presumed that you must be a potential dangerous bio-weapon for some hypothetical person somewhere, or that you're the one who is contributing to the ever growing number of cases.

No harm Donnelly going, he has been terrible since he came in. Put back Harris, he was doing a grand job then and this way it would prevent FG from spinning it as FFs fault

This morning I was in a store in Dundrum SC, and at the check-out the assistant, aged perhaps 57-63, was commenting that Tony Holohan has got it wrong trying to lock us down, and that "all the ones at risk should be keeping in their homes". I asked her directly "Do you imagine you it I are at any risk?" (I'm 59) and she replied "not at all, we're not at risk". That nearly boiled my blood and I retorted "well with the amount of weight we carry, we ought to be a little concerned about our level of risk". She was stunned.

It's not the kind of thing I have ever said before (although I am otherwise outspoken), so honestly I won't be engaging in casual conversation as I'm proving myself potentially obnoxious in these arguments. :( I think seeing the lack of mask got me riled in the first place :( It's a horribly divisive auld pandemic, not bringing out the best in me, and like everyone I'm getting utterly fed up with the restricted life :(

I am mostly amazed at your ability to pin people down to within 6 years of their age. I recognise infant, child, youngster, probably young enough, middle ground, older middle and pretty damn old.

The data is skeewwd as they are not treating teachers as close contacts

To be honest mate, I wouldn't waste my breath.
Case study on confirmation bias if there ever was one and lack of critical thinking.

1 MILLION people suddenly indoors packed together and a massive surge in cases is mere coincidence.

Virus carriers are obviously always symptomatic and never contagious.

    Stupidity.

The irony of your post.... complaining about confirmation bias, then doing the exact same thing yourself :pac::pac::pac:

Ok....what " mandates " are you thinking have no basis in scientific reality ?
How are you " effectively being treated like a criminal if you refuse to comply " with what exactly ?

Dublin gone to less than 20% of cases, that's something at least.....

Dublin figures below 100, good going.

That gives me hope that level 3 nationwide might work

    Lower than expected.

yeah, but we know from experience that the swab total is the one to watch. There's now a backlog and so we'll have a big number tomorrow or Saturday.

Great to see Dublin under 100 though.

    91 cases in Dublin.
    76 in Cork.
    53 in Donegal.
42 in Meath and the remaining 244 cases are located across 21 counties.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,801 ✭✭✭Benimar

There is a difference of 248 between positive swabs and announced cases. There is no way there are that many re-tests, so today’s numbers should be fielded in the context of a potential backlog.

We probably need to see what happens over the next couple of days before making any pronouncements.

Keeping the backlog for tomorrow night , to try frighten us going into weekend ..

    Proof that level 3 works

Great news with the Dublin numbers. Now hopefully in the next 2 - 3 weeks we start see other counties stabilising.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,133 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

    Biggest Cork total in ages

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,610 ✭✭✭bennyl10

There’s still approx 300 to go in backlog?
