It's self explanatory that if we have to lockdown again then we are doing things wrong

Lockdown happens when you don't know what else to do or lower level restrictions and improvements in healthcare and tracing etc aren't working

If Tony and his overpaid friends were in charge in France,Spain,Holland,Belgium,UK etc they would close everything down bar supermarkets.

A HSE directorate can be on between 100 and 165k as per here. The next question is how do you value their contributions? I personally value peoples contributions in software engineering roles by innovation, doing what works, keeping it simple. It would be an interesting discussion with someone in the health field.

Do you call that big money for people with their qualifications?
If they were in the private sector do you think they'd be earning less or more?

I'd say more like level 2 or level 1 for a few months till its available to all.

I think once a vaccine arrives and the public are given an end date to it all then people will be a lot more relaxed and can plan ahead.

The uk and us have everything ready to start mass vaccinations as soon as they are approved to do so

The WHO the most pessimistic organisation in the world as saying a vaccine should / could be rolled out this year

We are near the end game . It's just the flu season we have to get through

Cases are rising, ok let's lock everything down, close all businesses and stop people seeing their families for as long as it takes. Ok give me my 165k.

    NPHET meeting today?

So they could recommend 4 and then that would follow the governments 'step process'?

Just an ongoing review, they used to meet twice a week when things were bad. My guess is that they will let Level 3 run, probably for the duration, and just feed government their observations. Level 4 may be waiting in 2-3 weeks' time anyway.

I don't think we can draw that conclusion. Back in August contact tracing was only going back 48 hours. No attempt was being made to establish source of infections. Besides, someone who was in Spain probably would just lie about their whereabouts.

Has that changed or is it still 48 hrs?

Aren't we supposed to give a change in levels time to work, rest of the country are only in level 3 for 48 hrs.

If they are any way consistent and considering the worsening numbers they must recommend 5 again

The government have decided level 3 for 3 weeks, then the cabinet will review.

Considering the CMO is saying he still feels greater restrictions are needed now I'd say it's likely. Wouldn't rule him out recommending level 5 restrictions nationwide still, how can NPHET have any credibility in walking back their advice despite the fact that conditions are actually worse on the ground today than on Sunday?

In anycase I don't see the Government accepting their advice today. Taoiseach, Tánaiste and Ministers have all made it clear that they think we need to allow enough time to pass to see if the latest round of restrictions are working. They've only been in place for a day. Perhaps Dublin and Donegal may see a tightening of restrictions - but then again the Tánaiste is stating today that he feels level 3 restrictions in Dublin are working but we need another 10 days to know for certain.

There is research planned to see what it turns up so I guess that means they will do some samples.

10 days to contain the virus with level 3 restrictions

The effects won't have kicked in by then.

This is what happens when Muldoons pretend they are scientists.

the Cabinet can do all it wants

it doesn't change what NPHET may recommend

They will decide what to do, not NPHET.

They made the living with covid doc weeks ago. Should have had a plan if any of the levels are activated including 5. Hopefully they use that time to do it this time.

Another publican in a north Roscomon village with covid 19 didn't isolate himself while waiting for results. What's wrong with these people?

Level 5 weekends countrywide is way to go, While staying at Level 2 weekdays,
except in Dublin and those other level 3 places, they should be at Level 3, with Level 5 weekends.

What it pints to is that the Government is getting anxious that it's made the wrong choice and actually lack belief in their own decision.

If they fully believed in their decision they'd let it run for three weeks before moving back to level 2.

The numbers in Dublin are reducing so Level 3 works.

All the lockdown merchants will be disappointed
