That's the same junior minister who's brother has a pub.

    That explains it so

This certainly changes the dynamic of the whole Varadkar interview. Turns out the Government wasn't as blindsided by the announcement as he made them out to have been.

Like I said on Sunday, there's no way anyone in the government, or public, could have been surprised

So Tony had concerns, he has had concerns every ****en meeting since day 1. Its obvious he is running NPHET and a one trick pony. Cases are rising, ok let's lock everyone in their house, close every business and restrict all movements, no meeting family. What about the economy and peoples mental health tony. Not my problem says Tony. The man is a ****en genius alright.

You've complained democracy isn't working because our elected gov't isn't making the same decisions you would, and now you're complaining that removing this guy as representative because he wasn't representing the board's views is undemocratic...

It's like talking to the wall with some people. Their advice is independent from any economic factors. You should know that by now.

Someone mentioned 50k of drink being sold in local shops each week. and people actually think this new way of living is keeping us healthy and 'safe'..christ above.

The Scottish government considered having a two-week circuit-breaker lockdown. So why the lockdown recommended for here by NPHET four weeks long? Why would NPHET take longer to analyse information than its Scottish equivalent?

What you mean not surprised, half the country was terrified. We were told on the Thursday we didn't need to go to level 3 and we shouldn't have been surprised. Well you go away to ****.

So Robert Troy... his brother is a publican! There's a coincidence.

Whichever clown proposed this needs to be fired back down to the backbenches. I can't tell if he is just corrupt or incompetent.

Did he even attempt to explain where the money would come from to cover the extra PUP payments in the absence of all that excise and VAT from alcohol sales in supermarkets and off licences?

Clamp down on people having parties with Australian style fines and leave the rest of us that have our couple of bottles of wine or few beers of a weekend to feck alone.

Typical, curbing the freedom of the many as an easy way out instead of going after the people actually causing harm.

Genuine although maybe stupid question here, is it a given with all pandemics theres a second wave, so generally speaking if we can 'flatten the second wave ' , that's it !? Job done? Back to some bit of normality ?

    Just realised thats 3-4 questions.

And thats why the gov made the sub committee of people to deal with the economic side of it, like, do people not know this? If the gov rejects it then its because it went through multiple steps to be rejected. Pressure comes from all sides, those who want lvl 5 and those who want 0 restrictions.

NPHETs entire thing is "Public Health" and their role is to act on hospital space and keeping schools open. It is literally why they were formed. Not for economics.

So no alternative thinking, no thinking outside the box. Just impose one of the harshest lockdowns in the world. They are supposed the be the best of the best. Do we need a full board to tell us this.

Yes. It is in the name. National *Public Health* Emergency team. They hand their advice to the sub commitee who then factor in the economic impact and then that gets handed to cabinet. There are other parts of the system to deal with the "outside thinking"

    Just realised thats 3-4 questions.

Influenza will mutate to a less harmful form over time.

Stand to be corrected but Coronaviruses do not mutate as quickly so Covid 19 will be around in this or very similar form for quite a while.

Unless eradication or vaccine, we await next waves, 3rd 4th 5th etc.,

    NPHET always want 4 weeks

They wanted 4 weeks inbetween phases on easing restrictions

The government wanted 2 so the irish compromise was 3 weeks
