Anonymous junior minister trying to make a name for himself by making a half-arsed proposal that will never come to pass. We have been here many times before.

Anyone getting a feeling there's going to be a sting in the tail of this virus

I'm thinking there's going to be after effects that we don't know about yet

I'm not totally against the idea of supermarkets at least not allowed sell alcohol, but the youth of today are very much on a drugs trend and a ban on alcohol will only increase drugs use. As ever I like being wrong, but I see enough of this in GAA circles alone.

It will indeed , I'm watching it all the time

Instead of alcohol plus other drugs

They will take more other drugs

What is the take away message (to you)?

    I got the following:
"We don't know what we are doing, we have a lift on the overtime ban and we want to send out a message that we mean business!!"

Seriously though, broadcasting on the national airwaves that the Guards have NO authority to turn you back - is breath takingly stupid.
Not the fact that they had no authority but putting that on the national news.

Just a message that interferes with our ordinary way to get from A to B and to take note really. About time too.

Well, I stand corrected. As a message platform it worked well. I wasn't in any of the traffic jams today, but if I was I would have been fuming.

It's not the message I would (or am) taking away from it, but if you say that this level of messaging works, great.

There isn’t a hope in hell that they’ll close off licenses!! You’d feel the wrath of Musgraves, Tesco, Dunnes, Aldi, Lidl and all the others.

I’m hearing some Supervalu’s are averaging about €50k a week in drink alone!

No no no no NO this song stops here!!! No more Christmas song.

Now there are five steps to heaven
Just listen and you will plainly see
    And as life travels on
    And things do go wrong
Just follow steps one, two and three and five

Take a break from watching/listening to RTÉ.

Anecdotal long Covid horror stories without real data are about as meaningful as “my granny smoked and lived until 90”.

This certainly changes the dynamic of the whole Varadkar interview. Turns out the Government wasn't as blindsided by the announcement as he made them out to have been.

    Crabsmydia.

An awful dose altogether. Such an instance is good for some reflection on partner choices.

Don't be deluded as to anyone being immune to the repurcussions because of what they say, to who and where in any professional position a person may hold.

Not quite sure you understand the intricacies of what democracy is.

I think people the vast majority of people are understating how serious this virus appears to be and what society could be like with widespread transmission. 30% of sufferers in the UK suffering from "long Covid" and immunity looks to be more than likely short lived.

Most people think they are far healthier that is the case also. Young Athletes maybe are suffering mild symptoms but walk around any Irish town and most people's diets /weight is a massive problem for many more conditions. This as we all know is a significant risk factor with Covid.

Long and good care in hospitals is very important with this condition. That may not be possible soon. If that happens we will see deaths in people who may not have thought they were at much of a risk at all. Lots of young people died in New York and Bergamo when their hospitals could not cope.

So Robert Troy... his brother is a publican! There's a coincidence.

Whichever clown proposed this needs to be fired back down to the backbenches. I can't tell if he is just corrupt or incompetent.

Did he even attempt to explain where the money would come from to cover the extra PUP payments in the absence of all that excise and VAT from alcohol sales in supermarkets and off licences?
