    Are NPHET doctors or statisticians?

All they do is look at the numbers?

Wouldn't it be better to get a few more excel statisticians :pac:?

Wow, less than a 20% increase in the number of ICU beds in the biggest health crisis to ever occur in the state, just wow.

We have poorer health service, I thouht by now it was pretty clear that that was the exact reason why we are jumping for lockdown a bit faster than in Europe. In addition to that a bit of a public/media/government obsession with covid that seems a bit more ingrained in Ireland than in most other countries

We do also have the youngest population in europe, which is pretty clear is a bonus in a disease that effects the elderly much more severly.

Good strong words from all of them. They need to keep repeating it in very frank terms!

Someone needs to ask Ronan Glynn why he didn't recommend moving any county to Level 3 last week, and what has changed since then other than Tony Holohan coming back.

They opened the meeting discussing the changes between Thursday and Sunday. Perhaps you would watch that instead of demanding that someone asks the question.

It seems to take about 10 days to 2 weeks for restrictions to start levelling the curve - we should expect numbers to rise during that time. It's like trying to turn a large ship.

Surely some decrease should be showing for Dublin by now

I think level 3 will stabilise our cases to 500 per day by late October.

Is that good enough to protect hospitals and ICU???

and you figure this how? id imagine we will hit 700-800 in a weeks time

Last 3 days were decreasing in Dublin.

I presume like yourself guesstimate. Yes I'd say we'll hit that in a week then as I said, go down by the end of October to 500.

How many extra nurses and beds could the state have purchased instead of hiring a legion of Junior ministers and all the Special advisors?

Nope.. didn't say that. I just said it is my *hunch* or guess that children *may* be more infectious than hitherto known. It would be an awful dilemma is this were do as I am definitely not for denying children the benefit of education and social interaction. In fact I go on a bit about them needing MORE education & socialisation than they already get. I just hope I'm not guessing right.

    Ok fair enough.

Nolan did hint at a possible stabilising of cases in Dublin, but as usual a bit "too soon" to tell.

It's not, we pay taxes and elect people to look after our Health services, why isn't it being done?

Problem is, while this conference has a small captive audience, like here, the vast majority of people aren't listening and have Covid fatigue.

Can't speak for anyone else but, if we are to go to Level 5, I'd personally rather we went to level 5 from next Monday, for 4-6 weeks, if it meant Christmas could still be had at level 2

Understand it would/could be economically seriously damaging though

What's the point in taking a snap decision to go to level 5, with no planning and warning for businesses and people....and somehow you think this will allow you to go to level 2 for Christmas...

What makes you think Christmas will be reduced from level 5 to level 2, and why is it so important about Christmas? I actually think it better to have level 5 if needed over the christmas holidays once it is planned for.

You can guarantee those likely to face fines would go nuts if that was threatened. They should be ignored and fined anyway, but we saw how they backed down when it came to enforcing the house party restrictions.

Alas our relatively young population is not that healthy a one with high levels of obesity, drinking etc.

Well how would you know, they haven't gave median ages of deaths now for the last month and a half.

Finally some sense... also the fact Pascal donoghue said " we might not be able to borrow at 0-1% interest from the ECB as we would be the only country in national lockdown in europe".

What do people propose ireland do with over 400,000 unemployed? When clearly the economy cant afford another PUP payment with borrowing.

Unfortunately and it will hurt people to hear this but covid is not the only show in town there has to be a balancing act.

Level 3 buys the goverment time of a week or 2 to get finances somewhat balanced before level 5 ( and that in my humble opinion will be what happens).

The problem I’m finding is that a lot of people think there is a solution to this problem without a vaccine. There really isn’t. No alternative course of action is going to make things much better.

All we have are sh!t choices and even sh!tter choices and the government are tasked with deciding which is which knowing some people will lash them no matter what they do.
