    Dublin's numbers are stabilising.

But will stabilising the country nationally at around 500 cases a day be enough to prevent over run of ICU and hospitals? That's the big question. If we need reduction of cases, regrettably we may have to move up levels. I don't want that, no right minded person does.
The HSE dispute that narrative and as the promised contingency plan hasn't gone into action yet, we don't know. We do know that COVID ICU cases are a very small proportion of all ICU cases. TBH all this distancing may keep flu' cases down anyway and relieve a bit of that potential pressure.

North of England hospitals back to levels of admissions seen during the first peak. Hopefully we don't get to that situation.
On the World at One Chris Hopson, chief executive of NHS Providers, which represents hospitals and other NHS trusts, said hospitals in the north if England were now seeing admission levels equivalent to those in the spring, when the epidemic was at its peak. He also said health chiefs in the region wanted to see restrictions tightened soon to stop the problem getting worse. He told the programme:

I’ve spoken to three chief executives in the north of England today all three of whom are saying, ‘Please, please everybody, don’t be misled by the national statistics’, which show that, yes, hospital admissions are much lower on a national basis than they were in the first phase.

What they’re saying is they are seeing admission levels which are now at the same as they were in the north of England in the peak. And what they’re saying to us is they’re concerned.

In their view, it’s pretty clear evidence that the local lockdown measures that are in place aren’t working sufficiently well ...

So what they’re saying is, we need to think really carefully, really quite quickly, about whether we do need to go for tougher local lockdowns.

Hopson also said any new restrictions needed to be introduced quickly. He said:

And the other point they’re making is there’s no point waiting for tougher local lockdowns until people are swamped. You’ve got to start turning the tap off probably four to six weeks before you think you’re going to hit the peak that you can’t cope with.

So this is now becoming, as far as northern hospitals is concerned, a really important issue, and one that needs to be dealt with quickly.

Isn't part of the UK issue the breakdown in the whole testing process.

Definitely not. All it takes is one of them to actually cause harm. Just have to remember Jo Cox's murder in UK and all the attacks on journalists in US. Don't want to see that deranged and violent stuff here.

Something significant must have happened at the end of August / Start of September.

    Any thoughts?

Nolan comes across as a seriously dislikeable individual, thinks he's above questioning.

Ronan seems quiet measured while previous incidents away from Covid would make you sceptical of Tony

    Sweden showing how it's done
Depends on how much testing they're doing, and who they're testing.

Poland seems to be doing better on that metric, but cases and deaths are rising rapidly there. All is not as it seems from that list.

156 up 6 Covid hospital admissions today.

25 ICU up 2 admissions today.

Increasing stadily, no one knows. As for trusting HSE plans. Most of us are a bit long in the tooth for such naivety. In the last 6 months practically nothing was done for the winter period coming.

Things were getting bad way before that its not just the schools as kids were hanging round each other before then. Maybe it was the parents hanging around the gates talking to each other with there masks pulled down. If they had them on

Tomas Ryan on Eamon Dunphy's podcast used to use how well Northern Ireland were doing as a stick to beat us with. Funnily enough doesn't do so anymore.

Was at Carrickmines Park at lunchtime today. I've been there a few times on weekdays over the past couple of months, including the week after Woodies and other hardware stores opened.

Today was really quiet. We easily found a carparking space, which normally involves driving around for a few minutes (and are like golddust at the weekend). There were no queues outside any of the shops, even Smyths and Halfords which normally always have queues. The shops inside were pretty empty too.

Just an observation, and a snapshot in time. But maybe these Level 3.75 restrictions might be having an effect after all.
