It sounds like the NPHET wasn't surprised by the outcome or Varadkar's attack on them.

Eamon Ryan has described the meeting yesterday as involving "robust" discussion between Varadkar and the NPHET.

Which is political speak for a lot of tense questions and raised voices.

Fair play to Leo. We need to question a policy that would destroy hundreds of thousands of livelihoods. If the questions can't be answered then you don't implement the policy. Simple.

I see thousands of bozos are organizing a "No Mask" march in Grafton Street at the weekend.
Seriously? These idiots should be up for manslaughter for superspreading the virus.

    Manslaughter !!
Would you go away ourra da!!!!

check the latest IFR rates (close to 0.2%), and now with WHO saying 10% of world pop. has had the virus that can be closer to 0.1% .... now whats that common illness with an IFR of 0.1% called again ??? on the tip of my tongue ..... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

What's that got to do with the question repeatedly asked to the poster I quoted? Ireland has the harshest restrictions not just in Europe but the whole world, as we have all summer!

harshest restrictions in the world doesn't matter a fcuk if there's no compliance. if there was we woudn't need such restrictions.

Surely government needs to be borrowing now in case it ever needs to happen so?

When you borrow there is strings attached.

If there was sufficient compliance the levels would be irrelevant. Compliance equals low level.

The real issue is not the restriction level, it's the lack of compliance.

Nothing is the driver. Blaming schools, pubs, sports, or any other individual factor is overly simplistic.

To suggest schools aren't playing a role is complete head in the sand stuff.

I am doing exactly that - Not blaming individual factors. Many are. Schools are incorrectly the focus of too many people.

To blame one thing - 100% people's behaviour.

Let's not sacrifice our kids education. It is the last thing we should close.

They made a recommendation that contradicted one from only 72 hours previously with no change in underlying trends in the intervening time, apart from the usual low discharge numbers over the weekend. They may as well have said "Tony felt it in his waters" as opposed to the letter that was sent

Like you say, they just made recommendations.

Can't see where over stepping their mark comes in, when that is basically what they're there to do.

Amazing that the Netherlands haven't ramped up restrictions. Look at that new daily cases graph!!

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/netherlands/

They have increased restrictions. I watch a lot of cycling and the BinckBanck Tour which is ran in Belgium and Netherlands had their stages cancelled in Netherlands due to increased restrictions. Not as much as here, but there's an avoid non-essential between their cities/regions much like we have, curfews on restaurants and bars and restrictions on social gatherings in homes (stricter than here)

Omg Leo is the smoothest guy in the dail. He has that animated bog body Martin in complete state of oblivion while he pretends to be teashock. Leo is playing one master stroke after another all the while that imposter from that depressing crossroads in a bog aka Cork thinks he’s the boss. Leo V looks great topless too not something that pasty cork man can pull off.

Times like these, I wish we had an intimidating, take no **** police force like they do in some other countries. If these wasters got a good hiding, they wouldn't be long abandoning their pathetic marches.

    Look at the death rate.

Tiny compared to the first wave. Let's hope it last.

I'm not sure about the health services in the Netherlands but here in winter hospitals are at capacity. ICU beds are filled and hospitals ask people to not turn up at a+e
This year we will also have covid related admittances needing ICU beds.

Cases are rising and winter is coming. Hopefully with all of the covid related restrictions, distancing and cleaning the winter flu outbreak will be low this year.

He handled it appallingly. Surprisingly there's still a good lot of the public who fail to understand that NPHET don't take anything else outside their remit into consideration when making recommendations. Why is it still open for discussion?

Government then take these recommendations and decide what to do with them. But for Varadkar to turn on them for making their recommendations, knowing why they do what they do, for not taking the economy into consideration was dumb.

Is the level 1 to 5 plan a government plan or nphet plan? Because its already shown to be pretty all over the place if everyone bar Dublin and donegal are plodding along at level 2 and all of a sudden the entire country is suggested to go to level 5?

Therefore, without hesitation we the people should be requesting the resignation of the members of the previous government who blindly followed the advice of Nphet back in March.

I think you've just suffered a breakdown in logic.

Not much change since yesterday so far which is good.

The numbers above don't match with these given to David Cullinane last night which he quoted on Claire Byrne.

Am I reading the numbers right.

It's easy for the Politicians calling for level 5. If they are wrong nobody remembers and they can just say "NPHET told me", if they are right they'll say I told you so.

It's nice that government is actually trying to make decisions by themselves instead of playing games.

Two deaths in Glasgow? Oh my fapping god, Christ on a stick, absolutely insane numbers. Best off to lock the entire country of Scotland down including the islands and regions where there is no or hardly any virus, just in case. The jocks can forget about walking 500 miles anywhere ever again.
