What’s the deal with the 8K video hype?

The total resolution of the Quest 2 is just under 4K so wouldn’t it be a waste of time watching anything over 4K?

depends on the *cough* "type" of video we're talking here :D

I presume super sampling works for regular video as well as games??

Theres £20 off the oculus quest 64 / 256gb on John Lewis right now using a code and by signing up for the my John Lewis rewards program in your account settings.

The catch is you have to use addresspal and I just wouldn't trust them with something that valuable.

Thought that was for the original Quest... pretty damned good deal for a Quest 2!

personally I'd stick with Amazon just for peace of mind!

Also direct delivery is better for returns etc if required since Amazon would cover all those costs

Thanks and that's me on board the Quest 2 train! I've not had problems with AddressPal before. Got some Sonos speakers via themselves and it was grand.

Pay in GBP and it's around 310 euro.

Cheaper alternatives to the Elite strap will no doubt hit the market too so prob no need to go all in on that aspect either.

Anyone know if there's such a thing as a wireless HOTAS?

My computer is upstairs but I play everything VR downstairs wirelessly. The Xbox controller and Quest headset works fine, but I'd like to use a HOTAS instead of the Xbox controller.

Or is there some sort of wireless hub?

I was thinking that any savings over the base price from Oculus should be reinvested in the strap/battery combo and a link lead.

Might go with this from Amazon first.

Of course I might then to rip the current pc apart for upgrades too. Fun times.

How much do you think it'd cost to collect from the local post office? I've never used Address Pal before, just Parcel Motel.

Mines updated to ‘processing for shipping’ on the Oculus site, was still at opened when I checked earlier today.

No charge on the card yet, but hoping it starts to move along now. Delivery was the 16th when I ordered so hoping for early delivery.

€6.49 for home delivery. €3.95 to post office.

Ah sweet, I thought it was gonna cost more because of the weight. Cheers.

It might be a euro more for home delivery, as the parcel might come in over the 2kg limit. Then it would be 2-5kg €7.49.

The post office price would remain the same.

Oh man I am torn between a pre order with amazon at 299 but with direct delivery to ireland and easy returns or 279 with john lewis with addresspal but tougher returns but a 2 year warranty.

Jesus why are decisions like this so hard for me

Add Brexit to the mix too :D

Will the John Lewis warranty be valid if they are a non-EU country? And when getting a replacement will you need to pay duty on it?

Yes xbox controllers are compatible with windows

Bluetooth Xbox controllers can also be paired directly to the headset.

John Lewis take payment immediately and the bill is showing up at €309.55 on my credit card. So if I pay for home delivery, make that €316-318-ish, depending on weight. Or €314 to pick up at Post Office.

Amazon is asking for €339 at checkout, but I'd imagine that switching to GBP brings that down to €334?

When you look at it that way, it's not as much a no-brainer as it would be if you were living in UK, but then the currency fluctuation is currently playing in our favour when Oculus themselves are pricing it at €349.

Yes but as squadrons is not on quest as a non link game then it wouldn't work this way and would need to be connected via windows

If you are playing wirelessly then you'll need Virtual Desktop which will then allow you to control the PC from the headset-paired controller, or PC-paired controller.

Depends how far you are sitting away from your PC, but in some cases the latency is less when connected to the headset and controls go through the router to the PC.

I completed Tomb Raider on my PC from my Oculus Go, but I had the controller paired to the Oculus Go and not the PC.

My only experience with VR was an old Samsung headset with my Galaxy S6. The Quest 2 has my interest. It seems to be the best bang for buck.

Where are games bought from? steam? origin? direct from Oculus site?
I understand its stand alone but can also connect to a pc. Will connecting to a PC give more gaming options etc?

What sort of system spec is recommended. My current setup is

    i7-4790 3.60GHz
    12 GB Ram 1600MHZ
    Motherboard - MSI H97 gaming 3 (MS-7918)
    Radeon RX 480

Is the Radeon 4GB or 8GB?

Games for Quest are bought from https://www.oculus.com/experiences/quest/
but then using an app called Virtual Desktop you can wirelessly connect to your computer and play SteamVR games

    8GB

The 256 GB version is £399. An extra £100 over the 64 GB version. Is it worth it? Are all the games on the Oculus site available from steamVR? If so I think the 64 GB will suffice. Also what accessories are needed from the get go? The link cable? Thats coming in at £30. Anything else?

Just checked my order and the same. Surprised, as when I ordered the estimate was November 6th for me, as I ordered a few days after the announcement.

Your best bet is try it out. What kind of speeds and ping does it get over wifi????

Have considered ethernet over power (powerline) if the wireless speeds are slow?
