I can't see the move up to level 3 having any major impact on the upward trajectory. I wonder in a few weeks time will NPHET be saying "I told you so" to the government if we have 1000+ new cases a day.
Level 3 might have some chance if a few holes got kicked for flouting recommendations, but we all know that's not going to happen.

Great news re Dublin - definite signs cases number are dropping there.

No, they're pretty much the same. The rest of the country is just catching up but they don't have the population density to blame.

Hopefully are seeking a peaking (or even small decrease) in Dublin. This is offset by larger increases outside Dublin

It shows level 3 actually works though.

And it will be more effective when it's country wide.

We could just go to the market. Ask the private hospitals to provide ICU beds and pay for them as needed.

Private hospitals shouldn't have to make up for the failings of the hse.

Let the fallout of the triple whammy of the Coronavirus pandemic, the winter flu and the backlog of hse cases be on the heads of Martin, Varadkar and the other clown.

4 weeks of maximum restrictions could be an opportunity lost. Shortsighted

This is an absolute cop out by the government, there will be some virtue signalling Gardai checkpoints this weekend and the October bank holiday and that'll be it. Meanwhile our hospitality sector will be absolutely crippled again for no reason whatsoever.

It's never been businesses that can be blamed, it's personal responsibility. And that's non existent in a significant minority unfortunately. We don't have a government or a police force with the horlocks to actually fine or enforce anything.

Meanwhile we're perfectly happy to allow a bunch of left wing loonies march down Grafton Street putting innocent civilians who were caught up in it along with workers on Grafton Street at risk.

Any mass gathering should be dispersed as allowing it is endangering public health. People have a constitutional right to protest but they don't have a constitutional right to gather in large groups. Again, we don't have a police force with the horlocks to enforce this.

So the hospitality sector has been crippled and yet again family members won't be allowed into funerals all the while students in Cork, Galway, Limerick, Dublin will continue to have rave like gatherings which the Gardai will do nothing about.

Yeah there's some wishy washy nonsense about gatherings and visitor numbers but nobody will pay any attention. A quick drive through Dublin city will show you this.

Dublin gone from near 60% of cases to a little under 25% is really good news anyway....

Someone posted this earlier in the thread.
If there have been 254 cases in the 65 + age bracket in the last week there will be a serious demand on ICU.
Currently the 65 - 74 age cohort has a 5% lCU admission rate.
    5% of 254 is 12.

An increase in the vulnerable age groups, in the Homeless, Travellers and those trapped in Government DP homes...
All neglected groups by this Government...

Paul Murphy thinks we can close everything bar a few shops and pay everyone 100k a year till a vaccine comes along.

The best health system in Europe is the German one.

They use private hospitals a lot.

Is this not just because everywhere else has had an uptick of cases? Dublin has been fairly stable in the 120s-140s with the occasional higher/lower from the start, unless I am just getting confused

All of the main supermarket retailers Dunnes/Tesco/Supervalu/Aldi/Lidl in Dublin are failing to enforce customers wearing masks or their staff wearing visors properly. This weekend I watched people in Tesco with masks worn below their chin eating fast-food in the store and sniffing into Shampoo bottles

Supermarkets aren't there to enforce the law, they can request customers wear them but it's up to the Gardai like it or not to enforce the laws.

Apart from the fact that the Mandatory wearing of Face masks provision in law expired today, so it's no longer Mandatory to wear them...

Hse isn't fit for purpose covid or no covid. Are we going to pretend different

I don't think it the cases that should be looked at but the amount that are going into hospital and ICU. I really think now (should have been done earlier maybe) that specific hosditals be for covid patients and if we get back the private hospital deals that they be used for mammograms and all the test for cancers lung problems etc. These procedures need to keep on going regardless of what level we are at even Level 5 which we will have at some point in the winter.

The point is when to go into it if needed. Is it when things are bad or should we go earlier to stop the worst

I don't think he has an "agenda" when it comes to welcoming the fact that there's NO DEATHS... from Covid.. sorry if that affects your agenda..

Zero deaths, though - can't get much smaller than that.

People happy to take 0 now but when added on in a few weeks complaining they shouldn't count then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,595 ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

    That's the goal.
    Covid 0 isn't the goal.

If the case numbers are flat at level 3+ it's level 3+ until vaccine.

The other option would be to ramp up and down restrictions. Is that better or worse? I'm not actually sure.

Seems to, but with about a 2 week lag to flatten the curve. Another while to reduce it.

It'll be difficult for a government to hold their nerve that long, or will our hospitals be in difficulty in that time?

Let's see what happens when the silent majority who want their people protected start to speak up and start telling their representatives what they think of them. Most of the noise these few days is being made by the deniers. The virus doesn't care if you want your nice life back. It will take your life and that of others. Especially the old and weakest. It will also wreak havoc on some younger lives.

Mind yourself carefully for the next six months because this virus is on the march, and your government appears no longer interested in keeping you alive. Because some people have to party.

    lol
