Sunday figures are always a bit odd. I tend to think you’re best to look at it in 3 day averages of weekday results only.

Numbers in Limerick are rising again unfortunately..

So level three seems to be having an effect in Dublin, why then move the rest of the country from 2-4?
Tony's in charge now, I'd assume he'd be more extreme.

Youd think schools would be an obvious one to try and adjust for reduced numbers/social contacts, however we all know schools have adopted the hogwarts magic barrier spell against covid in Ireland, so no need to worry.

I cannot stand people that want our Education system to close. It is the most selfish non-sensical approach and punishing a group of people at minimal risk of serious complications from Covid. Schools closed for 6 MONTHS, they are now open and not before time. Everyone in the school community wants them open, bar some people with serious issues on this thread who seem bothered on a daily basis that Education is continuing.

Very positive number in Dublin. Not so for Cork though

He needs to reread the restrictions if he thinks there's there's little difference between level 3 and level 4.

Theres a hell of alot more in level 4 than that but that article is full of speculation

    Yes.

"essential retail and businesses that are primarily outdoors only can remain open. All other retail and personal services closed."

    Time to get a haircut.

Its still not near enough to warrant a change from level 2 for Kildare for example when put against national average

I strongly suspect a nationwide level 3 is coming. If its not I would expect 10 counties on level 3 atm.

Unfortunately I agree, but this is where we need a Government to step in and take charge of this situation.

If Doctor Death had his way we'll all be in "Level 5+++" by Halloween...

    No deaths is great.

Bit of a concern though when we think phew it's "only" 364 today.

Put those counties on 3 then, pretty straightforward. Can't put everywhere on 3 because other counties are worse off.

There's not a hope in hell the likes of Mayo for example with 26 per 100k should be on level 3

The reports about moving to level 4 have some truth to them.

Take charge by doing what exactly?

I think if level 4 was on the cards there would have been a cabinet meeting today

After the high numbers yesterday, I wonder is today a return to normal or was yesterday a sign of things to come.

600 was high, the average for daily positive swaps was approx 450. We're definitely heading in that direction of 600 plus daily but it'll will probably take a week to get there.

It depends on if they want 1 set of rules for the whole country with a small number of exceptions or if they are happy to have 2 sets of rules splitting the country.

Balancing the advice of NPHET with the wider impacts on society. NPHET’s brief is Covid, nothing else. The government’s brief is everything else, which we elected them to do. Not to hide behind medics with only Covid in mind.

    Interesting week ahead.

Can't see a nationwide level 4 happening and don't think it'd make much sense but I can see nationwide 3 and Dublin heading to a 4.

Theres more than a small number of exceptions. The vast majority should be on level 2.

As I've already said there's a handful of counties that should be on 3. Dublin, Donegal, Monaghan, Roscommon, Longford and Cork

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 387 ✭✭Goldrickssan

Why would we go to level 4? Dublin growth seems to be slowing now which is around the time you'd expect to see an impact after the restrictions 2 weeks ago.

Move more counties to level 3 but these level 4 merchants are just people who love mysery.

Let NPHET and the gov do their jobs - no matter what you think they know more than you about the progress of this virus.

I’d be massively against another lockdown. (Or restrictions as they’re known as).

But at this stage it’s inevitable. What I’d hope for is that they get on with it, and stop the warnings, threats and widespread leaks. It’s embarrassing. Like a bold child being given out to.

If it’s a lockdown or widespread restriction, there must be a change in plan and communication. A high percentage aren’t listening anymore, they’ve gone down the personal responsibility road. This thread isn’t a snapshot of the population.

Any lockdown this time around must be time limited to ensure buy in. If you say the “3 weeks at a minimum” bs, it won’t be listened to or adhered too. A strict 3 week one might have a chance of working. And secondly, whether lockdown works or not, we must have a plan. No more lockdown, open, repeat. Whether it’s expand test and trace or ramp up hospital capacity, lockdown can’t be used or threatened again as a plan.
