Will we get the usual announcement at somewhere between 5:30-6:00 or will it be delayed to coincide with nephet meeting.

Perhaps nephet meeting might be about specific policy rather than new lockdown.

NPHET already met this afternoon apparently

how good did they do earlier in the year? Wondering if the high rate of gentic disorders amongst all groups there not helping? They have high rates of thalassemia a blood disorder. And high rates of consanguineous marriage.

The same idiots would be complaining then anyway if it did.

The US was going collapse, India was going collapse, most of Europe was going collapse. They always seem to be on the brink.

We all locked down for a few months and it didn't make thing pass quicker as you say. What are you basing your putting up with some pain to make this thing pass quicker on.

Ok maybe quicker wasn’t the right word, how about spread the pain ? Or just to try to keep some health resources available.

Nobody thought the first lockdown was going to end it, unless they were really naive and couldn’t grasp that the world had fundamentally changed.
This was always going to play out with lockdown, open up, rinse and repeat. It’s just not possible to protect the vulnerable and carry on regardless. Covid will get in somehow, complacency will set in.

Plus I’m not really comfortable telling a whole segment of society to lock themselves away so I can go back to pre February life. OtherS might be.

ICU capacity has been increased. You can criticise that the increase should be more, but to say absolutuely nothing has been done is simply untrue

    Pre-Covid capacity: 225
    Temporary surge capacity: 354
    Current permanent capacity: 280
Capacity after Winter Plan funding: 297

Is that still behind what they have up North as bed to population ratio? Good to see improvements never the less. Well done to the medical staff.

US healthcare pretty much did collapse in certain states like NYC, I don’t know about India but I’d suggest that the sights of coffins stacked high in Bergamo and Madrid would suggest some sort of collapse.

Indian healthcare did not cope. People were turned away from hospitals due to lack of resources. I don't know what else is meant to define 'collapse'

    https://www.lifegate.com/india-coronavirus-healthcare-collapse

American hospitals did also collapse, and sent covid patients to other states and hospitals due to lack of resources

In a way you'd wonder is it better of have 3 weeks of level 4 in Dublin say then have to extend level 3? I know it's probably not as simplistic as that but would think severe measures for shorter period might bring it down more effectively than these measures and extending them. No simple answers unfortunately.

Why target Dublin with a level 4 ? Level 3 is slowing growth and showing Dublin as a reduced percentage now of national cases. Did anyone actually think level 3 was only going to last 3 weeks ?

Its other counties at level 3 thats needed not a level 4 that closes the vast majority of businesses again

It’s all comes down to the selfishness and selflessness of individuals.
Where is the line between public health and thinking as a society, and “I’m alright jack” individuals ? For some people their finances are paramount and for others they’re prepared to put up with some pain so they can benefit family members and maybe get this thing passed quicker.

The Im alright Jack individuals are on both sides of the debate.
Very easy for some people to call for social responsibilty when they are making out like bandits out of it all.

Conspiracy theorists suggest that the bergamo photos were taken back in 2013. And that the NY mass grave photos were taken on an island where all the unclaimed bodies in NYC get sent to be buried and that wasn’t out of the ordinary. Don’t know anything about Madrid.

    Unlikely according to reports

Why would you put the whole country on level 3 when we all know the few counties that should be

No. There's a weekly Thursday meeting and other meetings are held on an ad hoc basis if needed.

Youd think schools would be an obvious one to try and adjust for reduced numbers/social contacts, however we all know schools have adopted the hogwarts magic barrier spell against covid in Ireland, so no need to worry.

Would it be a stretch to guess these zip codes are either below the poverty line or of a particularly pious group of people....

And only today Ryan is saying schools would stay open in level 4. Go figure!

One of the photos of coffins on Italy was taken from earlier. The army convoys were real. And yes the island in New York has existed for donkeys of years. Sad in this an age in any country to have unclaimed people who die. Thankfully here normally locals/groups band together for a proper grave and funeral.

Was it with the old system if one part was in level 4 rest of country had to be in level 3? Then again levels have been tweaked so much who honestly knows anymore
