I'm not trying to undermine the number in any way, but looks like Argentina added 3,300 deaths in Buenos Aires - so that contributes to the unusually high number.

Oh! Didn't see that. That's quite the backlog. You'd wonder how that happens really. And we have people on here giving out about a few dozen cases being added a day late :pac:

Quantitive easing the term you are looking for I believe.

And yes, cash flow can be created in an economy.

57 confirmed cases linked to a single Cork café-restaurant

People have to relax about this recession, I'm still relatively young and this will be my second recession, and unlike the first one the economy can easily bounce back once the pandemic is over. Also the areas hit now will still be suffering if everything was opened up. The majority of people will still be scared of covid regardless.

The last recession was to bail out the banks and property developers. This time it's to save lives. A worthy cause in my opinion.

If the new restrictions in Dublin were working would we have seen an impact by now?

Over 70, over weight and not the healthiest of lifestyles. Hardly the idle circumstances to fight it.
No doubt he will be the best patient that medical science has ever seen and the doctors will be really impressed by his recovery, in fact it will be the quickest and best recovery they've ever seen, ever, in the history of all recoverys.

From studying him the Cure will be discovered.

Was Trump in Cork recently by any chance?

There's been signs of an impact. They said on the press conference on Wednesday that their estimates have Dublin as one of the counties with a r number at the lower end of the range.

Unfortunately I don't think the current level of restrictions (and compliance) are enough to bring the R number to less than 1 (which is needed to reduce the case numbers).

Surprised Trump didn't wait until losing the election to announce he had it as an excuse not to leave the White House.. He probably has it but he's such a liar it's hard to know.

We should be at 0 in Dublin now. Can't understand why we are not. Weren't all the cases being caused by the pubs and restaurants and people attending games.

What signs of an impact of restrictions has there been?

Does he have it? Is this perhaps him declaring he has it, dodging a few debates,
recovering as strong as an ox, and being able to dismiss it in the election campaign as insignificant? It is not surprising that people want to see his medical records.

That's hilarious and actually makes me optimistic seeing what level the people who make these posters are actually on.

Thankfully the majority of people aren't off their rocker.

think this was discussed in another chat but i believe the gist of it was that this involved staff only, no customer was infected due to this outbreak, so it another example of mr. Glynn using figures in a misleading way in order to keep focus on pubs and restaurants

What would be his motivation for doing that?

That was happening before the impact of any restrictions kicked in.

becasue they will be closing them again i suspect and this will lessen the public outcry, what is his motivation for stating that 57 cases were linked to a pub

Does it matter if they were customers or employees though? These types of establishments have very small/tight working areas

If so many staff were infected there is a huge potential to infect many customers. What he said isn’t wrong

No one is saying what he said was wrong but don't you think more detail should be given in these examples rather than "57 cases linked to a cafe/restaurant", maybe i'm reading too much into it but the OP certainly picked it up this way
