On the subject of top 5s:

    Bushmills 21
    Redbreast 12
    Dalmore 12
    Lagavulin 16
    Roe & Co

    Top 5, eh...?

Let it be noted that in the case of some of these, the Talisker 10 in particular, it's a matter of personal history and affection as much as any claim made about their being objectively "the best".

    1. Lagavulin 16
    2. Talisker 10
    3. Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or
    4. Blanton's Gold Edition
    5. Powers John's Lane

I'm deliberately steering away from samples I've had of very high-end and inaccessible whiskies.

I do still regret something that happened to me with Sullivan's Cove French Oak in 2018 / 2019. I got two samples, and my wife and I made a big fuss over how amazingly good they were. The mouthfeel was incredible. At the time the price for a bottle was just over a quarter of what it became a few months later... Then it went sold out. The lesson- he who hesitates is lost. :pac: I gather they're still producing great whisky, but I haven't looked at prices lately.
    My top 5 with the caveat that up until about a year ago I was happy enough with a standard bottle of powers/Jameson so my experience is very limited and in no particular order;

Well, Powers Gold Label still takes some beating, I love that whisky ... But I know what you mean.

Anyone use Flaviar? Some serious price increases on their standard bottles. Some have creaped up as high as 40% overnight!

A mate did. He tried to get me to sign up and I balked at it.

Lots of sites of their ilk are going through a similar uptick in costs. They won't be long for this world.

You've literally just reminded me that I haven't received my Japanese whiskey set from CWS. Completely forgot about that.

They were sent out yesterday. Phew.

For this rare Teeling Tasting we will be using the last of our remaining bottles of Teeling 24 Year Old Single Malt (voted Best Single Malt in the world 2019), the 2020 release of the Teeling 28 Year Old Single Malt (best irish single malt released in 2020, in our opinion!), the brand new Teeling Renaissance Series II 18 Year Old (one of the best value malts on the market) and a very special SNEAK PREVIEW of a NEW 29 Year Old Teeling Single Cask soon to be released exclusively for Celtic Whiskey. The night will be hosted by Alex Chasko, Master Distiller/Blender at Teeling Distillery. As the first employee of Teeling, Alex has been involved in developing the whiskey and the distillery from the very beginning. Previously he was the Innovation Manager at the Cooley Distillery and began his career at Bridge Port Brewery in Portland Oregon.

Zoom tasting will take place on Thursday October 22st, at 8pm with Alex and co hosted by our whiskey specialists Luke and Alan from the Celtic Whiskey Bar.

Fantastic tasting and actually not bad value considering the prices of some of those bottles

Worth it for the 28 year old alone. Had it earlier this year and it is fantastic

Have had it as well, still have a sample left but you're right completely worth it for that alone. I've also been contemplating picking up a bottle of the new renaissance

Had a drop of Teeling single malt last night. I bought it a few years back and wasn't ready for it, but my palate has developed since then.

Went over to visit the family home today and discovered a full bottle of Yellow Spot that I'd stashed away and forgotten about! :D Happy days.

Had the Irishman and Hinch whiskey in the last week, both bought in the Dunnes whiskey section, both absolutely lovely sipping whiskeys. Would absolutely buy them again.

Amazon Prime Day is 13-14 October this year.

Can anyone recall some of the good discounts from recent years? I have relatives in the North who I could use as a shipping address, so that’s not an issue for me.

I’m particularly interested in Irish whiskey, but open to others if the price is right.

I remember there was plenty of decent Scotch at good prices, think there was a few Jameson and things like Sexton at good prices too. But they tend to pop up on sale on Amazon throughout the year as well anyway.

I think Prime day is primarily to shift their own devices and discounted prime subscription. I've never been overly impressed with it to be honest and as Irish_goat says the discounts are often available year round. I don't ever recall any particularly amazing deals on Irish Whiskey that I saw and thought I was missing out, they do have some great deals on scotch though.

That said I'd recommend signing up to Hot UK Deals and turning on an alert for these tags; https://www.hotukdeals.com/tag/whisky and https://www.hotukdeals.com/tag/irish-whisky

That way you won't miss out and if you have relatives in the north you'll be able to avail of all of the other deals as well, not limited to Amazon.

Delivery arrived from CWS with a bottle of Stiùireadair instead of the 18 year old. Now mistakes happen but that's a pretty big one. When I contacted them they were more concerned with how I'd return the Stiùireadair than with how they'd get the 18yo to me. Very unimpressed.

To follow up on this - sent a fairly strongly worded email expressing my dissatisfaction. A bit of grovelling ensued. Correct whisky arrived Monday, wrong bottle collected by UPS. Got a couple of samples of Bunnahabhain 25yo this morning as an apology for the f*** up. Fair enough I think.
