Ronan Glynn - 57 people infected from a restaurant in cork. Big cluster

The make up of the populations of some Dublin areas must be hard to get to if English and watching RTE is not exactly second nature. Is any effort being made to use other channels in other languages?

Ronan Glynn just said 1 cluster in Cork is 57 cases

    Shocking

It's a fair question, we are regularly informed of the age of people involved in for example fatal car crashes. Just yesterday evening RTE carried news of the passing of a 12 year old girl due to a house fire. Today we were informed 4 people died from Covid, why the level of detail about the child's death yet no detail of the death of the 4 individuals mentioned today.

Lets face it, they are feeding us the information they think we need to hear. These deaths are more than likely older patients, and while sad it would play into the perception that it is only serious for over 65s. Once a younger person dies they'll be sure to let us know (but not that they had an underlying issue)

I think Dublin is 39% of total cases today. A (very) small positive!

Quite obvious now that people have just given up and are not following public health advice, unless the public start buying into this again and cop themselves on then we are staring into the abyss of a very bleak winter. I really hope there is time to turn this around before the health service really is over whelmed with both flu and covid tbh.

I actually think the Golf-Gate scandal has accelerated the virus in many ways. Even back then cases were rising but more and more people now are not obeying the guidelines.

Remember when we used to pretend pubs and restaurants were covid free zones?

    That was funny.

Cork seems to have a large amount of confined clusters, probably the reason we're not moved up a level today.

Please irish government close the bookies. No social distancing or mask wearing and people can stay there all day #Covid19Ireland

Ah but in general it is betting on the GGs and we all know how that the horsies are supported here. Won't happen. we will be fenced in our housed first.

Perhaps the informationis just not available yet, I don't know. Either way I disagree that it's being withheld for nefarious reasons. Just yesterday Glynn stated that the average age of COVID deaths is in 'late eighties', they are completely open about it. As you said, if since September the demographic of those dying was younger than in spring/summer they would have told us that. So I think we can assume the September deaths were in the usual 70-90 age group mostly
    https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-40057658.html

The age of hospitalised patients is pretty surising though:
'“We have seen 269 hospitalisations since the beginning of August. Of those, 153 patients are aged under 65, and 56 are under 40.

It’s trending downwards which is always a good sign and a small positive as you say.

Because a cluster means the contacts are known and it’s not out there riding around unchecked ?

Basically. 60 cases in a cluster =/= 60 random cases, all over the gaff

you don't remember cases and deaths dropping after the lockdown?

Cases will just shoot up when we reopen again.

Can’t do another 3 month lockdown and 3 month slow reopening. Country will eventually collapse.

That restaurant type super spreading scenario has played out all over the world since the beginning. From South Korea to Cork now. Don't know why it is surprising to anyone.

It would be useful info to the public to know actual specifics. Surely they were not all within 2 meters of each other. Likely an infected member of staff.

But either way, some specifics would actually help people avoid behaviour likely to lead to something like this.

Economists would disagree but sure boards is right

What economists have advised that level 3 would collapse the economy? As in, banks gone along with deposits?

An economy collapse is as good as a societal collapse, so who is saying that this will happen?

That Cork cluster is very shocking. I wonder were the owners not enforcing distancing. Don't want to judge, could have been the cusomters faults entirely but just sounds hard to believe a cluster could grow that large without some fault on the end of the premises owner.

I originally thought closure of indoor dining in Dublin was overkill but in hindsight it looks to have been a pretty wise idea now.

First thing I thought is there must have been some sh*tty measures in place.
Every restaurant/cafe I've been to in Cork City recently has serious measures in place.

To be honest, anybody who doesn’t know what they should and shouldn’t be doing by now are either thick or reckless.

Was the cluster linked entirely to the restaurant or did it spread from the restaurant?
