So your gonna tell the Unionists that no one from Britain can enter NI by sea or air?? And they’ll say, “No bother. Forget politics, we’re all in this together.”

Haha! Christ! Exactly. That was well timed.

It isn't beyond the realm of possibility...uk has local lockdowns already (not working, same as here), it is just one step above that with the key difference that it would actually work.

There will come a day that you all sober up and realise we are going nowhere fast without taking some serious action. Hopefully it won't be too little too late.

The greater the spread, the harder it is to suppress.

We'll send covid20 as our negotiator for that. The Irish Michel Barnier.

You are probably right, society is a serious disappoint lately.

    Equally these are unprecedented times.

No thanks, Covid20. Dr. Feeley last night said it all better than anyone here can.

Shutting borders or whole islands is not in his plan.

Look, respectfully, can we flesh this out a bit please?

At the end of the day we are all personally motivated, i want normal life, nightclubs, festivals, dating, all that craic. I love to travel but I can live without for a while.

    What's yours?

What do you hate so much about the idea of a closed border? Let's imagine if after a few months we could reduce restrictions off the back of that, surely it is positive?

Meet me in the middle here and have a conversation.

It is beyond the realm of possibility, Jesus just look at the **** storm over Brexit and goods moving between NI and GB.

You are producing some epic lines.

I ll meet you in the middle, OPEN THE DAMN COUNTRY and stop with these idiotic yoyo lockdowns.

Seriously, there was a poster here and I think he is still around, called covid a mickeymouse virus back in June. Damn was he right.

Whether you love me or hate me, should I ever go into politics and should my real identity be discovered, one thing you wont call me is a flip flop. I always wanted this country to re open, back in 1st week of May actually when that idiotic 2 week lockdown extension was announced.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

We have missed 4 months worth of economic recovery since. And now we are back to the start... but more dumber this time, we actually worry about "cases" than "deaths with covid"

I don't hate it at all myself. I just know, short of robot truck drivers, that it is impossible to do without societal collapse. :D

You foolishly think the economy will just bounce back if you get your way?

    You need paying customers

I would love to be that innocent.

    Show me your reasoning?

I take the opposite view, doomed if we don't. I can give you my logic very simply.

My reasoning is we don't have a bauxite mine in Kilkenny. They don't manufacture phone parts in Balbriggan. Sugar Cane is not grown in west Mayo.

You get the picture. We are a small open economy - we need to trade with the outside to exist and when you trade people (yeah, potential covid carriers all of them) are the ones who drive that stuff into our ports and to our towns and cities.

    It hasn't even happened yet.

As I said, misplaced fear from ye lot. No better than the people you mock.

Yeah sure, I get it, but inanimate goods are not virus carrying humans.

This is a real dinger of a non argument.

Same. I think this lockdown and how it’s being handled is easily one of the worst things to happen to this country ever. I don’t think the negative consequences can ever be overstated.
In 2009/10 I felt we could work our way out (and we did, very quickly). This thing is different though

Who drives the trucks carrying inanimate goods? Or was your plan to keep people out of Ireland limited to UK stag parties and Spanish language students when you thought of it suddenly in your head?

Not at all. I enjoy your ranting and hope you stay longer. I was just mentioning the fact that you told us you weren't planning on staying long.

I don't have a masters in supply chain management but I can easily enough dream up a pass the batton type arrangement that would be sensible.

Aside from that elaborate and paranoid fear of ruin, what have you against the idea?

    Long is a subjective thing.

The hourly posters who have been here for months need clinical help imo, especially when you just repeat yourselves.

Despite your attempt to pass it off as an ill thought out notion, it is global best practice.

I have a small hangup about it being entirely unworkable.

Beyond the haulage fly in your ointment, you do realise we have people who work in this state but are based elsewhere. They are key workers. You have no right to imprison them here if they are not sick. And if you don't let them in Irish people can't be trained up over night to do their roles. Ireland is a small open economy. It is hardly a matter of opinion. It is funny that you would try and debate the point.
