Anyone try these smoked chicken wings yet?

These were rotten, I tried them tonight, way too smokey and the texture was leathery like.

Correct, tried them and they are rubbery rubbish hiding behind some local crafty type marinade.

    Total fake.

    Avoid.

Bought the Harissa glazed lamb leg steaks yesterday. Very tasty!
They also had Mediterranean Mint version.
Could find the Churros and there was a big void where the skin on fries should have been :(

Ok for anyone trying to find the churros, here's some help. (This is the position in my local Aldi anyway)

Come along the freezer section where the likes of the frozen chips are etc, (opposite to ice cream cones) and about midway down the aisle they're on the upper shelves along with some mini Cornettos, pigs in blankets and from memory there's tempura prawns also.

They're not exactly where you would expect them to be, but they're basically opposite shredded chicken, chicken thigh burgers etc.

    Hope that helps.

5 minutes in the oven at 220

Well it tasted like left over pizza reheated.

It wasn't horrible but not great.

Which aldi did you get it in?

Was in aldi in naas yest and still no sign of them

Looks like the low calorie ice cream has been discontinued too, they had a salted caramel flavour that was beautiful.

Have tried various chicken wings from Aldi over the years but never found a good one. Lidls frozen ones are excellent though.

I had some last week and was disappointed, very greasy when cooked in the oven. I think it really needs to barbecued to properly enjoy them, even grilled might be better but the cooking instructions only mention oven or bbq. Nothing like what I remembered from the few months I spent in South Africa years ago

I did them on the BBQ complete with foot high flames when I flipped them over

I suspect if you did them in the oven, you'd have to put them on a rack to allow the fat/liquid to drop down into the roasting tin, otherwise I can imagine they'd be very greasy certainly.

I wonder if these were not cooked properly. Some people seem to think all breaded chicken is precooked. They are usually partially cooked to get the batter/breadcrumbs to stick, so if you cut a defrosted one in half you will see a cooked layer and then raw chicken further in.

I remember saying this to a guy (an ex butcher of all people) who was adamant they were always fully cooked . It even has it spelt out on many packs.

I think a lot of non-EU chicken comes from Thailand, I shudder to think of the conditions they're kept in. Chicken seems to have gotten cheaper and cheaper over the years, maybe Im wrong but I dont ever remember being able to get a 1.4kg chicken for 3 euro a few years back, its insane how cheap it is.

Oh lord. My daughter has an eating disorder among other issues, the meat plant closures along with all the pictures of carcasses on the news really escalated her condition. She was living on what I call beige food. She doesn't like the popcorn chicken she says it tastes like a swimming pool, her descriptions can be colourful. But she does eat the other frozen chicken products I hope she doesn't hear this about Aldi as it's where I do my main shop.

Got the heated airer a couple of weeks ago. There was queues for them in our local Aldi. Gonna bring it back as it would hardly dry a pair of socks. Think all heated airers are limited in that way but disappointed nonetheless.

Had their Persian tomatoes, lentil, chickpea and cauliflower bowl today, and it was absolutely savage.

€2.49 for a really healthy, filling and handy lunch. In to the microwave for 90 secs, stir, then back in for another 90 secs, and done.

I've had the Brazilian bean stew, African peanut etc etc dishes, but this one blew the rest out of the water.

Yeah - could have picked a better day weather wise for it, but I'm highly recommending regardless.
Picked one up based on your recommendation and it was by far the best of that range, thanks for the tip - I didn't notice there was a new one before this post.

Can't really work if you think of it. Very small contact surface with all the heat traveling directly away from the airer, little space in-between items and little to no air movement. It's like they never tested it before starting mass production or knowingly deceive customers.
Anyway, indoors, dehumidification produces better results than temperatures. I once needed to quickly dry 3 airers full of laundry in the wintertime - put them in a small room and turned the heater to max. When I came back a day later it was extremely warm and humid inside and all the laundry was still wet. :D
Dehumidifier all the way - dries quickly, prevents mould and smells.

No Saturday pizzas in my local branch yesterday either but I did pick this up for 1.39, I think it is newish or at least I hadnt noticed it before. Anyway it seems to be Aldis clone of Dominoes garlic and cheese pizza bread, it is pretty identical to it. Had it with the Heinz turkish style garlic sauce and it was a match made in heaven. Fits perfectly in the airfryer too and only takes 4-5 mins from cold.

OH just got a 12" Carlos garlic pizza bread on way home from work, same as the side for €3.49 she thinks it was. Can't find receipt.

Those garlic ones are tiny, I got a couple the other day to try them. Half the size or less of the pizza bread I think you're on about. Haven't tried it yet.

The big one is 500gm compared to 145gm for the side. I think i'll put some pepperoni and extra mozzarella on it the weekend:) They are tasty.

They updated their Thai green and red curry kits, tried the red one and it was nice. The herb bag is a great addition, gives some proper spice and flavour

Aye. Have seen it in plenty of deli's as well unfortunately.

Might try the red kit. I bought a ready made green one from Aldi before, I can't remember the make, and it was awful, I hadn't realised that they sell kits, and after a quick search I don't know how I missed them.

Just in relation to the Thai curry kits. You're better off getting a tub of paste from an Asian shop. It's what most of the restaurants use anyway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,215 ✭✭✭✭Suckit

I thought that's what the kits are?

On a side note, the Red Pepper and Mozarella parcels are really nice for anyone that mightn't have tried them :)

They have small sachets of curry paste and coconut milk and a tiny packet of undefined herbs, possibly a bit of dried Thai basil and lime leaves. The herbs do add something, but to be honest the quantities of paste and coconut milk are barely enough to make a decent sized curry for one, let alone two, so you may as well get a better quality tub of paste from an Asian shop and a tin of coconut milk. Get some frozen kaffir lime leaves to add if you want to add a bit of extra aroma.
