AMD taking a page from XBOX’s confusing names strategy.

    5800x = CPU
    5700xt = GPU

    Technically:
    Ryzen 7 5800X
    Radeon RX 5700 XT

GPU has an RX qualifier & a space after the number :pac:

To throw another spanner in the works what about the 5700X.

    :)

But what if in their internal design docs they’re using the short names and they get mixed up along the way. When you put your new CPU in and boot up it ends up being a GPU lol!

But seriously, think of all the youtubers we’re going to have to suffer “genuinely” stumbling over these names and then commenting on it in their videos :(

Looks like the links are getting hammered.

Definitely gonna give this a go later.

Yeah I'll give it a go at the weekend. Already manually downvolted and OC'd. Going to reset to stock and see what the tuner comes up with.

The actual CTR application isn't playing nice for me at all, even when trying to stop the diagnostics run or trying to exit the program itself it's causing freezes and making me reboot.

There is mention of a hotfix going out shortly on Twitter, maybe give it a day or two just in case.

Set up a thread if folks want to add their before and after results to it for a bit of fun.

Some alleged leaked benchmarks showing the Ryzen 5900x at 25% faster than the 3900x in single core and 15% faster in multi threaded performance.

    Damn. Some performance jump.

Intel is in serious trouble if that performance leap is true.

If that's true I would be changing plans and would upgrade my 3950x when the replacement for it is released.

I will be picking up one of these CPU's. I went with a 3700X last year so may jump up to the 5800X this year. I know the 5700X and 5800X are much the same but better binned. It also depends on pricing. If AMD know they are beating Intel they may bump up the prices this time round.

I think there will be a real difference this time. The 5700X is likely to be like the 3100, cores split over two CCXs. The 5800X will be like the 3300X with all cores on the same CCX. The upshot will be a real performance gain for going with the 5800X part. It's on my wish list too.

I still hadn't fully decided if I was going to with the better chip but if they are as you said then yes I will deffo be getting a 5800X.

Is it only Ryzen? When's the RDNA2 reveal?

To be honest I'm pretty excited for this reveal. Hopefully the price is much the same as Zen 2 when released.

19% IPC boost and 8 cores per CCX:eek:

Shame they missed 5Ghz would have been the icing on a very nice cake.

    Edit: RIP Intel... 631!

Damn 4 weeks and they are missing a few chips. Obviously they will be released at a later date.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,429 ✭✭✭.G.

Wonder will it be a paper launch that Nvidia has us so used to! When are the pre order pages going live! Wallet very excited here :D

What was the cost of the 3700X and 3800X at launch? (in dollarions)

Looks like a bit of cashing in is going on, not that I blame them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,429 ✭✭✭.G.

    They are.

    3700x was 329

    3800x was 399

    3900x was 499

Bit of a price hike compared to 3000 series.

    Also missing a lower-TDP 8-core.
