Talk about it when we reach 10k per day because that would be equivalent of what we had in summer. Think about it.

This so very obvious and simple reality is constantly ignored. In January and February unknowingly coronavirus levels were building in Ireland and our testing was very low. By March real case numbers were very high compared to now, yes maybe 20 times higher, thus in April we could have a week with 300 plus deaths while apparently having similar case numbers to now.
We have not had 35000 cases. We have had a peaked wave with more than 200000 but still not a huge percentage of us were infected. I do not understand how people cannot see this.

Guillain-Barré syndrome perhaps? Can happen at any age as an immune reaction, and especially a novel viral illness like Covid can trigger these things, at any age.

If his tweet makes the young realise it can happen them too so stop the parties, large gatherings, sessions and raves etc., it is a good thing imho

Would you be sent to hospital by ambulance for a panic attack?

Most definitely, if it’s prolonged especially. If you can’t breathe properly you need medical attention regardless of cause.

Looking at his tweets, he is an FG bot

I've been accused on being a FG bot on twitter because I had the audacity of tweeting something that agreed with the FG govt at the time.

Its a juvenile way to shut down debate to accuse someone of being a bot. I don't understand why people just want to hear from those that agree with them.

But it won't make the young realise, how many will see that tweet and say ok I am going to no party for the next six months and reduce my social interactions?

Didn't a load of them come back to fight the virus?

If they were not specially ICU qualified they would still need 6 months training before they could make a difference to the ICU deficit. As HSE are opening ICU beds now they have clearly succeeded in staffing the beds with appropriately trained and qualified nurses.

No the Gregory House level medical geniuses on boards have decided it doesn't add up. Fake news.

So in six months we have about 30 more beds in ICU?

HSE administration should hang their head in shame. Seems they’re good to send the frontliners into battle again this winter. Sure why not - their salaries and pensions remain unaffected and they won’t have the moral dilemma of threatening a strike while faced with seriously ill people in need of medical attention.

System rotten for a long time - opportunity now for someone with some humanity to overhaul the whole thing. Am not optimistic.

Lack of suitably qualified drs and nurses; takes 6 nurses to each ICU bed. Stop our trained nurses going overseas as soon as they are qualified; make it a condition that they serve even 3 years in the country that trained them?

You cannot run ICU beds without the right staff.

Yes need suitably qualified staff of course. But we had 73,000 people answer on-call for Ireland’,any could have started training in March. In the UK they’ve implemented a buddy system while nurses get experience in ICU.

How did we have the surge capacity in May?

How can other EU countries have doubled their capacity in the same time?

Stop 'our' trained nurses going abroad? Do you want to apply that to all graduates in all fields or just as a covid measure.

I don't think, by the sounds of it, that you have worked in this field in this country

Was listening to a nurse on radio the other day who answered 'the call', came home from Australia April/May, still waiting for the actual call to a job, doing temp agency work to get by! One of many based on the numbers quoted.

Could need re registration with the Nurses Board or whatever it is called now, and also may not be a Union member.

The HSE is hamstrung because of Unions. Private hospitals can run their diagnostics day and night wonder why that doesn't happen (apart from A+E stuff) in the HSE hospitals. Well we all know the answer.

Something has to give here, and I am very disappointed that Unions are not stepping up to the plate to help this country in their time of need. Of course Union members need to give their heads a wobble too, but that won't happen either.

Not happy at all, and nothing will change. Trolleywatch will be the next big ticket item. But why is that happening at all? I do realise that there is a shortage of beds however, as others have said the Summer was the time to get the ducks in a row there. Paul Reid I am looking at you. But I doubt anything will ever change no matter who is in charge.

The consultants and the Unions run the Health Service for their own ends, but it should be for the good of everyone. And clap away for all I care, I know they are doing a great job, but the test will be over the Winter. We shall soon see if they are prepared to break out of their Unionised straightjackets then.

But the blame is always laid at the door of Government for lack of funding. No, it is lack of judicial and effective use of the funding they have.

Yes and now they’ll have an ‘influencer’ team to appeal to young people to rein themselves in. Is anyone else uncomfortable with the government using this tactic? Seems a bit sinister to pay popular influencers to deliver a government message though social media. Will those being influenced be fully aware of government sponsorship? If yes, then fair enough you make your own choices but if it’s painted as influencers own opinion surely that could be unethical?

Governments have always done things like that. Social media just makes it way cheaper and way easier than the old ‘methods’.

Waiting for all of the boards.ie medical experts to say, he was faking because he's shown taking a selfie of himself instead of being on deaths door. Yet if he posted a selfie wearing an oxygen mask, he wouldn't be recognised and people here would claim its a stock picture from the net.

I was listening to Donnelly on the radio and he was asked about it. Fudged the answer about the staff who came home and didn’t get jobs, blamed recruitment processes and red tape, and claimed the the HsE winter plan included the biggest recruitment drive ever etc.... eh why is that in the new plan, shouldn’t this have all been done months ago??

Can’t help put think if they took over the private hospitals with a stroke of a pen and shut businesses down and made a law to keep everyone 2k/5k from their home because of ‘pandemic’, they could have tackled the unions head on and told them to take a back seat while they sorted out the health system.

In other industries when Covid came along your contact was paused or ceased effectively, or changed with a little basic courtesy of notification, or not.

Why not provide an attractive package for 1,000 extra ICU nurses. That would be money well spent and a fraction of what has been spent on paying people to stay home for months.
