I have a close friend and neighbour who was first diagnosed with cancer at the very end of March.

He has been receiving treatement, including surgery, and more than one inpatient stays in hospital all during the pandemic. Hes doing well, thank god.

It is not true that all cancer treatment has stopped. Another myth bandied about by the anti-restriction fans.

I'm starting to see the connection between "wet bars" and "wet brains".

Was in the pub tonight first time since the no food thing was brought in. Absolute miserable experience. I’ll stick to the local from here on in.

I haven't went near a pub in months. I'd love to get out for a pint but what they are now is of no interest to me. Sitting at a table behind a screen not allowed to meet anybody new? Thats not for me.

All this talk about pubs and restrictions, and it is a disgrace how they have been treated. But even if they all reopen most of them won't last anyway, they just aren't enjoyable experiences in these sorts of conditions and people aren't going to go to them.

In fact, if this continues into next year it wouldn't surprise me to start hearing more and more about illegal raves and speakeasys, it will be a natural progression. People want to socialise, it is a basic human instinct and they are going to do it one way or another.

Its already happening. Lots of private clubs - halls, sports etc - are having lock ins. Pull the blinds down and crack open a keg.

Not even private. Walk around Dublin CC and pubs /bars are openly flaunting the rules. Fairly easy to rock up and get a pint without issue.

Which I think is massively unfair to the businesses who are following restrictions or staying closed, but if there's no enforcement of the rules can you really blame them for trying to stay open?

It is happening in the city centre , but for maybe an hour or so. You are not allowed serve indoors for starters, even with food. Rents still have to be paid. Even CC pubs have a core of locals, they are popping in for a few scoops. There is no major onset of flouting going on in fairness. There would be the usual internet outrage vids and photos doing the rounds, it is a Sunday?

It is the schools that are causing the spikes. The universities are back tomorrow, expect more spikes.

Agree with this. The proper opening with that meal crap was a poor experience. I preferred the lock-ins when they were shut and I'm not overly disappointed to be back to that again. Looking forward to a few pints with the lads this evening with none of the nonsense.

Place I went to was full, table service obviously. Easily sat there half the night without a pint as you’re waiting to catch someone to get you a pint. So few serving it took ages to get another pint. 11:20 lights on, finish up and get out. No last orders. Wear a mask to the toilets. Wear a mask to get up at all. Just crap.

It’s not socialising that’s for sure. Which is the main reason I go out.

I'm not talking about flaunting stupid rules like €9 meals or wearing masks to the toilets, I mean hidden places where they lock the doors and fully allow people to drink, dance, mingle, have fun with abandon.

And i'm saying this is happening in plain sight, not hidden.

Go around Dame Lane / Court and see for yourself!

It is becoming more and more an established opinion that transmission is less likely outdoors.

In fairness there are over 10 pubs in the vicinity. I don't see what your outrage is about?

Those moaning about the pub in it's current state are the type that would moan in any circumstances!

I didn't get a chance to go this weekend but last weekend when I was in the pub was possibly the best pub experiences I've ever had. It was great craic.

Service was spot on. Never waiting on a drink. We had a bit of a sing-song, the only thing different was wearing the mask to the toilet but who among us (without an ulterior motive) really cares about that? It's a couple of minutes while you're whizzing!

Moaning about the publicans needing all this support and then going one and "never again. I had to wear a mask".

More delicious pints for the rest of us!

Pub crawls are so much harder now, name and number each place you go. At least that will eliminate the 12 pubs and all that for non fans

Surely they're easier, you just have to organise first. Bookings in each place, job done!

I think places might not take kindly to a ****load of people turning up for 1 drink and been loud as ****

But more importantly than all this were you allowed to wear your tinfoil hat there? Judging by all the moaning and whinging in this post I assume not.

What are you on about? I think you need to look up what tinfoil hat means. From their post it just sounded like a **** experience, which you’re always open to when table service is involved.

I think he's referring to the fact that the poster has spent the last few months claiming that the pubs have been closed due to a government conspiracy to take away our liberties, one of which is being able to go have a pint without ordering food.

Now the poster can have a pint without ordering food and is still complaining about whatever he can find to complain about.

Maybe publicans should learn how to do table service. If I was as broke as they declare, I would make sure to feed customers with pints as fast as possible. Back at home most pubs do table service and can tell you, you don't wait for a fresh pint.

Hit the switch to keep the lights on.

Yes Bill Gates and big pharma have colluded to shut down the Irish pub experience.

You need staff and to train them. I've worked abroad where table service was standard practice but then so was tipping and running up tabs which both incentivise the staff and reduce their workload. Here rounds are still a thing or paying as you go and also people genuinely forget tabs if they have too many drinks and aren't used to that system which increases walk out risk. Also we're way behind on the systems as we aren't used to them here, floor staff don't have stations or hand held systems to put orders through, bars don't have printers for dockets and many bars probably don't have a single member of staff who have worked in a table service environment. You can't expect them to hit the ground running on their first weekend back open for many of them.

Hopefully anywhere even resembling this will get reported asap and I also be hopeful the law will be strengthened to really punish any rotten selfish pigs who who ignore health guidance and restrictions and put their whole community at risk over a “mingle”. Can’t believe there are people ignorant enough to support this too, I’m certainly not encountering them in real life so they much be rare but unfortunately they do exist as can be seen in this and other threads.

Great lock-in last night in the local. Good crew, good craic and plenty pints.

They don't take that much training to be fair. Myself, alongside many people in this thread I would imagine, worked as lounge staff back in our teens.

    It's not rocket science.

Also, one of the pubs I was in last weekend gave us our bill after the original 105 min booking and then we paid as we went for each round. Easy!
