One distinguishing feature of Influenza is how suddenly it strikes you. In my experience of having had it about 5 times in my 59 years is waking up in the morning with an almost imperceptible throat/tracheal soreness, going out and three hours later being very ill with shaking chills, bone pains, weakness, headache, and initially some nausea or vomiting. Almost coming full on from the outset. Bacterial lobar pneumonia can strike just like that too, with bloody sputum as well. Most other cold-like viruses/chest infections develop mildly or to moderate severity over days. I believe Covid develops relatively gradually and sometimes in an on-off kind of way, from what I've read.

Just seen on sky news the Welsh and Scottish governments announcing restrictions so while the UK government aren’t saying anything yet it’s clear that the constituent parts of the UK are moving ahead.

That's my understanding too, with covid. Feeling a bit off for a couple of days, then it floors you.

The only time I had flu was the swine variant of 2009. Hit fast and 48 hours of curled up in a ball. Never once did I think of getting help. Pure survival mode.

I got a terrible flu in the really hot weather in 2018, it absolutely knocked me out for about a week. The second week I spent staggering around in a haze and had a terrible cough for about three weeks afterwards.

I suffer from time to time with asthma anyways so it really knocked me for six, I've barely any recollection of that week apart from being in and out of fever induced sleep for the most of it.

Made the same mistake. Government miscommunication totally to blame for the absolute bloodbath. I'm no fan of Varadkar or Harris but at least under their leadership I never cut any bodies in half. It's a small but probably important thing.
