You actually can buy a new car in the UK vat free if you declare it’s going to be exported, form 411 is used and the dealer will take 20% vat off that price.

If you don’t use this form and export to Ireland VAT paid I believe it is possible to reclaim the vat but the process is a mystery

VAT is 21% rather than 23% too now

Wonder would a UK dealer even be interested in doing this as it might not go to their numbers of new regs. I'd imagine they are told internally not to by the brand as it's hurting the market the car is for. Probably a very rare thing to do, must look into it more though.

They are 258bhp. Xdrive adds a good bit of weight to them and I'd say you were probably used to the awd grip of the Golf R.

I didn't realise the xdrive added so much weight, just googled there and its about the weight of a passenger so no doubt it's noticeable when driving two similar cars back to back. I do at times think the rwd model for my own car would be more fun at times but then I really like the way xdrive just means the car never gets bogged down when joining a busy road even when it's wet and its just a matter of putting the foot down.

MarkN's review of the Fiesta ST:

Excellent review Mark, you obviously put a lot of work into them and it shows. Well done.

    That car looks a cracker.

Good video Mark, was looking forward to that after reading how much you liked it over last week or so. Looks like a cracking car for anyone in the market for something like that

Yeah I enjoyed your review Mark. I'd say there's serious work goes into that and we can't imagine half of it. Thanks for taking the time.

I genuinely feel frustrated with my local dealer on this one. I went there weeks ago to enquire about the ST. They took my car out a run to value it. I asked about a nearly new one to be told there aren't any which is fair enough, they have no control over that.

I called them back two weeks ago on a Monday to price a new one, left a message for the guy I dealt with to call me back. He didn't, so I called again on the Wednesday, and the same person I spoke to two days earlier picked up the phone. So he knew I had already not got a call back. I told him what I was looking for and would like a cost to change. No bother, will look into that and get back to you.....that was nearly two weeks ago and no call. I've been in the showroom twice, first time with my own car to get a value and 2nd time with the wife to show her the st line to get her thoughts as they are similar look and same size.

Anyway....I must give off a vibe that I am wasting their time or they just arnt interested in pursuing a sale and have not got back to me.

It's a funny one because I probably would have went ahead with it, but the simple lack of not returning calls has left a bad taste on it that I can't see it happening now.

In fairness I contacted Spirt in Dublin during these times as I remembered that Ford had some two tier dealer set up where only some dealers could order the performance stuff, wasn't sure if it applied to the little fiesta or not. That sales man called me back, explained about trade on my car and what my best option would be. He called me a week later to advise he could source a 2nd hand one but he knew their trade in was low but wanted to sound me out. Asked me to stay in touch if the private sale on my own worked out.

I wouldn't take it personally Vintage.I found Ford useless when dealing with the mover the years.
Back in 2012 I wanted to change our four year old S max Titanium for either a new Titanium X model or a UK import of same as the X model wasn't officially on sale here at the time. My local dealer who had sold me the first s max had no interest in getting me one and I went so far as contacting Ford Ireland to see if they could do it. Neither had any interest in what would have been an easy sale.
I think Ford here just want to sell bread and butter models with metallic paint the only option!

@vintagevrs Have you spoke to any dealers across the border? And would they take your southern 330d as a trade in if they could source what you want? You will obviously get less for your 330d up north but importing a 6 month old ST up there might offset some of the difference? Obviously you would have to do some man maths to see if it could work.

Yes, dealer in Derry gave me the keys to an unregistered one for a test drive and were straight forward. If I sell my own I would prob go back to them. He said just tell me what spec and give him a few weeks and it should be no hassle. I took down my own donedeal ad today though as it's generated no interest and my own car is perfect so don't want to let it go for less than it's worth. So I'll probably stay put for another 6-12 months.

noticed it gone and wondered was it sold or withdrawn. Does anyone know if many cars like that are selling? I've been doing the same search most days that is just any car under 155g co2 with >2 litre and all the prices seem unchanged with not much disappearing day to day.

Still can't figure out what I want to get and nothing is jumping out at me

3.0 litre are a different beast compared to 2.0 litre when it comes to selling. 3.0 litre models will have a very small pool of potential buyers. They are not that much more expensive to run over the 2.0 litre but the majority of buyers will tell you that the 2.0 litre will do them fine especially in Covid-19 times. With a 3.0 litre you really need to find a buyer who is specifically looking for a 3.0 litre which unfortunately are few and far between.

Yeah. I was selling 330d 3 years ago. Had it up cheap as had a company car on the drive.

I think 2 calls. No viewers.
People think they'll be hard to insure or tax or thirsty.
Personally I think theyre the best cars on the road for performance v cost of ownership.

Let it off cheap to a relative in the end.
He has it. And keeps it immaculately.
I left he company quickly I regret the sale all the time.

I know exactly what it's like vintage. You'd think these cars would be snapped up because they are rare enough for a well specced one like your own. But they are rare in this country for a reason I guess. I had one call and a few texts on my old 535d after 6 weeks. A garage bought it and it was sold within 3 weeks. No one likes to buy these cars privately and unless you cut the price to well below it's value you will struggle unfortunately.

Anyway, washed my own yesterday for the first time since I got it which isn't like me :pac:

Yeah you can’t take it personally but it’s very annoying and head wrecking. I remember Vintage having a poor enough experience with VW Dealers too when buying his R. I’ve had many poor experiences myself, most recently with Colm Quinn. They just don’t give a sh1t but hey ho, it’s their loss. I won’t be back!
It’s not confined to car dealers either. Try getting tradesmen back to your house to finish a few simple jobs! I’ve heard all the excuses.

My parents live 15 mins from Quinns. They went to Aherns in Kerry instead.

I actually keep most of my business with Quinns, even though Keanes are just 10 min away. I know Colm Quinn is apparently a bit of a hard case, but I've found the staff there, particularly in the service dept, very good compared to other main dealers.

Yeah tbf I’ve had good experiences with the service dept. Prompt and easy to deal with. Last time I had it in I mentioned that one of the wheels was showing slight corrosion. I didn’t think they had a notion of doing anything about it but they replaced it with a brand new wheel, no problem.

It’s just frustrating dealing with their sales guys and they seem to rotate a fair bit. Very few of the sales staff that were there when I bought in 2018 are there now, so it’s hard to develop any relationship with them. I’d say he’s a tough nut to work for.

I've heard first hand that he is. The sales rep I bought my 535d from there said he runs the place like a dictator. He's no longer there obviously but he was a great guy to deal with and Quinn should be doing his best to keep guys like him there.

Tell me about it. I’m trying to sell a 2016 430dGC at the moment- 400+ ad views & zero interest.

An online add just can’t compete against the forecourt and the ability of a salesman to persuade someone into a 3.0L when they came looking for a 2.0L.

I had my 328i up for about a year, was probably overpriced the whole time in fairness but didn’t have any interest, eventually traded it in and it was sent to Beshoffs who only had it for about a week.

Anyway you could offer a sales man a few k to sell the car on your behalf? They would keep it on their forecourt and hold firm on price unless you were willing to drop it. Takes the risk away from them and improves your chance of a sale.

    ........

    It's the warranty IMO.
Many car salesman aren't great at sales, they just have to be dealt with if you want a warrantied motor off a reputable dealer.

I think that big engined diesels on a car like a 3 series or 5 series is a hard sell. Most people wont consider the larger diesel engines because of perceived higher running costs versus the 2L equivalent or, if theyre going for bigger than 2L, would search for a petrol.

Personally, I sold my 325i with a 3L petrol about 2 months ago within a week of putting it up on donedeal. I thought it would take a few months to sell so had planned on driving it until it sold as I was in no rush to buy my replacement. If youre considering keeping it for the next 6-12 months, why not keep the ad up and not move the price? If it sells, great, if not, you keep driving it like you planned.

yep people are just more comfortable buying from a dealer, i doubt beshoffs or lewis have to convince people to buy bigger engined cars. they come looking for them.

Warranty is a big part of it for sure, in my case the car still had a little bit more than a year left on the warranty at the time it went up for sale first.

Well I've been away for a few days but I pulled the trigger and collected it today:

Will get better photos when I have more time. Certainly a different feeling to what I was used to in the F10. Suspension is much harder that the F10 in Sport mode but the handling is much more sharp.

Many congratulations bazz. She is gorgeous. Please upload some interior pics.

Is power delivery similar to your previous 530D? I guess both are in the same state of tune.

Thanks, it's smaller and lighter than the 530d so feels a bit livelier.

Very nice Bazz, well wear. Looks like its the LCI model too so you've a few subtle nice upgrades over the pre LCI such as the rear LED's.

Yes it's a LCI. There are a nice few options on it such as full LED headlights with high beam assist, reversing camera, head up display and adaptive dampers.
