On all my applications and renewals I had to give a photo.

Me too, it says two passport photos for the files with each renewal, but the FO said one is enough.

Yep same as that for me too

Surely if the photos are scanned into the computer, then why is there a constant need for more of them ?

My FO has more photos of me than my family does as they require two for each application and one for each renewal and sub.

Not really the point of this thread but it's kind of stupid requesting a photo when they don't put them on the licence.

Makes for great viewing on Crimeline, NOT

If you can do the job, do it. If you can't do the job, just teach it. If you really suck at it, just become a union executive or politician.

They were supposd to, as well as being a credit card type license and not the flimsy toilet paper ones we get, but like all firearm issues it got rushed into law, then the "sure that'll do" attitude creeped in and we ended up with what we have for the last 10 years.

If fairness some of my photos, actually all of them, look like someone from crimewatch. I just don't take a good picture. Bit like this:

They soon know your mush if they have a summons for you, without photographs.

A friend got a call today over his renewal. “Are you using that for clays?” Em no it’s a bolt action 22LR.

If you were to put our mugshot on the liscense,it then looks a tad too much like a Garda warrant card, and seeing 95% of Irish people dont have a clue what a Garda warrant card looks like.[Last one I saw ....Somewhat bigger, green with the mugshot on the right and the AGS logo being more in bold in the backround, and in a very used and tatty holder, which is the dead giveaway:).]

Once you perfect the "flip,2secs view and snap back" manouver of any good plain clothes, they could be used possibly for all sorts of silliness by folks with bad intent on their minds.

Yup,and it would be very naughty of them to use your gun lic pic as ID on you. After all you all of course write the little "C" in a circle for Copyright and your name and year on your pics, when you hand them in,along with a polite note stating these pics are copyrighted and only for issuance of a firearm cert?:)
When you take a pic,be it on film, video ,whatever medium, you automatically own the artistic and creative copyright to such. You can decide who and for what it gets to be used for. Thats why in the US ,the State takes your pic where you are applying for your State ID or drivers lic,and the same here with the Dept of social protection...They can decide who gets your pic for whatever purposes.
Just one to be aware of.;)
