Closing the schools in Dublin should be on the cards.

What have schools got to do with anything? People need to realise the schools will not be closing

I don't see how cases go down in Dublin without some significant intervention for at least 2/3 weeks.

And the people breaking the rules most likely won't care about the new restrictions as a lockdown wouldn't effect them anyway. But it seems like the only way to curtail the spread now.

All they would have to do is make the stream that is going to rte news now or the website of hse be focused on the slides show rather than camera feed and have the lads picture in picture, all at the easily managed control of hse IT dept or what I'm suspecting the sub contracted AV company.

They could change it in seconds on the fly.

Agreed - it is the simplest task in the world.
Nolan spoke for 30 minutes and nobody could make out what he was referring to.
This is going out live to the nation. They should be ashamed of themselves for their gross incompetence.

Glynn not exactly defending government there. Rightly so.

They are broadcasting it now. Glynn's seems worn down.

Schools opening matches with the spike in Dublin.

Of course. But something needs to be done. I say that as some living in Dublin. It won't be easy at all but I can't see what the alternative is.

The comparison to road deaths is a interesting one, 19 people died but nobody really gives a **** but 14 die from covid and its the end of the world. And before people say road deaths are not contagious they could easily be reduced by lowering speed limits, increased fines etc but why don't we do it. Why is a covid death more important than any other death.

The government know well that a shutdown in Dublin would be the final nail in the coffin for very many businesses and result in permanent job losses so there’s a huge balancing act

Don’t be ridiculous. Schools aren’t closing, get over it.

Its not just Dublin now, its nationally. R they've said is basically the same nationally as it is in Dublin.

They're making pretty clear here that its not just a Dublin issue anymore

It lasts for about 1 hour so RTE News Now makes sense.

When it's as serious as this it doesn't. Too many people still think there's nothing left to worry about.

It's probably something to do with the sign language, since they always include the interpreter in the broadcast. But still wouldn't be too hard to show both the slides and the sign language.

The GP representative at the top table there just said the reopening of schools had been hugely successful

We're in the sh#ts and we have journalists asking about fuppin pubs.

They are downbeat this evening and you would be if you were constantly pleading to a cohort who won't follow simple health rules cause they don't want to be preached to and who believe everything is a hoax..

Zara king ffs,....they can't make it any simpler for people...Darwin about to round up a lot of these plebs..

The more that end up in hospital and ICU the more deaths we are likely to get. The level of road deaths is moderately stable.

If we continue and the rate we're going I can't see how they can stay open.

And now new oversight committee set up so government can deviate even more from advice. Government need to wise up. Do they think people will be rushing out to pubs and restaurants in Dublin at the weekend either way?

Some people can’t get the fact schools are open and aren’t closing into their heads.

No one gives a **** in your opinion. If they did increase fines and the other items on your list I'd imagine most of the open up everything crowd would be first to be on here bitching about them.

Government sat on their arse for the past week, sure what's a week with cases rising as they are.
Nip it in the bud early with less restrictions is better than waiting a week and needing more harsh restrictions.

Seriously? My iq may not have been that high in the first place but I think it went down reading that.
