I think the lynch mob needs to relax a little.

We don't know how Stephen Donelley felt this morning or when he went to work - he probably felt as tired and wrecked as everyone else. When he felt unwell he told someone about it and has been tested and is isolating as a result - as are the rest of the cabinet as a precaution. They are human beings like all the rest of us and a situation exactly like this could happen to any group of people in the country at the moment. It isn't great, but I don't think he needs to be summarily hung, drawn and quartered in the court of public opinion.

I demand 20 special advisors and a team of PR advisors

    And you'll ignore them all:pac:

He must be positive. The Govt would have done everything to avoid this much egg on their face.

It makes them look even more out of sorts considering how the day has gone.

Why? He has kids in school. So it's not like he could avoid it.

I heard he contracted it at at private gathering of over six people, and there was a trampoline involved.

Can you be tested and get the result between the press conference and now, though?

Is there not a 15min Covid test that can be done via a finger prick blood sample??

Its no being used for generally test (To date at least), but maybe they have it available for "emergency" cases??

Sky has changed the headline to say hes reportedly had a test and is self isolating

https://news.sky.com/story/stephen-donnelly-irelands-cabinet-self-isolates-after-health-minister-tests-positive-for-covid-19-12072721. Still havent changed the weblink as you can see though.

He was badly coughing on the radio at 920am this morning.

I get no satisfaction with the misery. I've grand parents living in fear, I've family members that work in the Healthcare sector risking their lives. Every plan the government try implement is a huge farce that most punters can see it will fail. And we'll see shortly that living with the virus isn't an option either.

I heard him this morning on the radio and I said to someone in work he sounds like he's coughing a good bit.

    That was 920am

It sounds like SD should have stayed at home today if unwell

What radio show was he on, isolation for them now too

I don't know but I'd be sure a Govt minister takes priority over other tests and jumps the queue.

I'm as much against lockdown etc as anyone but the way our health system crashes from Oct-Feb we will be in awful bother with an excess of even 50 in ICU due to covid.

Who gets priority at that stage?

Do HSE still publish the combination of non covid and covid Icu totals?
Yeah they do separate them out. HSE report on those totals daily anyway.

Fair enough, but if we all stayed home with the odd cough and no other symptoms a lot of work places would be empty.

It was a couple of snippets from an earlier morning interview.

I reckon a member of the Dáil will have their test fast tracked. Why would it take long if a swab is brought straight to lab for a PCR, they can get the result in real time.

Surely our government has a few boxes of 30 minute tests they can use for occasions like this, passengers flying in to Rome have access to them.

He absolutely should jump the queue. He has important work to do. Much more important than anyone on here

You could fly to Rome, get tested, have your results, and fly back, before you get an appointment in some places here
