A traditional Irish Christmas is unlikely in this environment.

Whatever about a plan, it's time the Government started to be honest with the public and tell them what they can expect. Now is the time to start breaking the bad news, because we can be pretty sure the virus situation isn't going to improve over Winter. Waiting until the middle of December is stupid from a PR and a morale point of view.

    "There are 5 levels"

"Okay, and what level is Dublin?"

    "2.5"

This is straight out of a monty python sketch.

The singular vision of one intelligent person possibly would produce a better plan than a Commitee job with chefs from FG, FF, NPHET and a PR firm all stirring the broth.

also don't forget the amount of advisors even the the very mister green eamon Ryan has by his side.. all this think tank and the result is this shyte show!

Number of health care workers getting infected is increasing both in absolute terms and as a proportion of total cases reported in the week.

But surely it will be said it is coming from households?;)

The press need to up there game as well.

2 minutes after the Minister for Health says it's going to be the most challenging winter on record for the health service.

They are hit with the "what about Christmas" question.

It takes a year to collect and compile the data, so wont be any use until 2022 anyway

2.5 of them are being merged if you live in Dublin :)

But you are not keeping an eye to what votes you will lose or what lobby you will alienate , by implementing certain measures. :D
This is why they are trying to downgrade the public health advice from NPHET , not to protect us poor things from scaremongering , but to keep us from knowing what should be done .

Yes! Classic example of trying to please all of the people and ending up pleasing none.

Someone begins a new thread on the forum and due to its generality it gets merged into this umbrella thread. So this thread + 1 other.

You can sort of see by going to the coronavirus forum and seeing which threads have 'Moved' in their title. There's two at the moment, by posters 'Double O Seven' and 'AKMC', which now re-direct to in here.

I have Irish holidays from end sept to mid October. So now I'm wondering what to do, or what I'm supposed to do. Cancel all the accomodation (even though Govt was encouraging us to staycation) or ignore and go. Would like to hear their "advice" for those with current bookings elsewhere in the country.

Well, I'll put it this way.

310 positive swabs on 8,120 tests - 3.8% positivity rate

    310 swabs.

Keeping the pubs closed that haven't been open since March will cure this growth.

310 Positive swabs over last 24 hours. 8122 tests.

So when next you all notice numbers rising please consider the impacts on the health service

We have all sacrificed massively (funerals, family occasions, weddings, medical procedures postponed) and over a hundred thousand people have lost their jobs.

This was all done to protect the health services.

Somehow I think we are considering the impacts.

That is the reality. If you want a big family Christmas you will still have it. If you want to avoid a big family Christmas then Covid excuse will be used. We will all have the Christmas we want. It is going to be impossible to stop people visiting family at Christmas after the horrible year we have all had.

What does reinfection look like in other corona viruses? Not good.

6 months to the day I posted this. I was rubbishing the UK plan but our "plan" is just as ****. Seems not a lot has changed.

    https://twitter.com/EricTopol/status/1305605844013203456?s=20

*the common cold comprised of many viruses some of which are corona viruses.
British assumption no long term damage from contracting the disease. There is plenty of evidence to suggest this. Google "ground glass opacities" to see the effect on non emergency patients if you are interested. They are ignoring this or that reinfection can't won't occur. The common cold is a coronavirus. Is anyone immune to it?

Ultimately I believe they know the approach is boll0x and are trying to keep things going a little bit longer before drastic measures are implemented. Very important to appear to have a plan. Most people don't possess the intellect to comprehend if it is actually feasible. By the time it gets bad they'll just say "aw well we tried"

Haha I don't think rearing turkeys works the way you think it works!

But your point is 100% salient nonetheless. I ordered our goose, turkey and ham on Friday to go in the freezer.

I'm in West Cork for a weekend the end of September (from Dublin) and also looking to book a week towards the end of October in Ireland to take advantage of this tax rebate. There's great deals on accommodation in Ireland now schools and workers are back.

EDIT: I was in Germany in August which is why I'm not in need of a foreign holiday so soon. But would highly recommend going abroad if that's an option.
