I was passing the local pub today. There was a group of people hundled huddled together at the door, probably smoking. It wasn't raining so I don't know whey they were parked right inside the front door. I wasn't going in but if I was, it would be hard to do a social distancing walk by.

I was thinking it might be a good idea for the government to ban smoking at doorways ASAP before the pubs open up again. There won't be any social distancing happening at door ways and when it rains it usually pushes people inside the front door.

I suggest you keep reading it so; it explains there is evidence for cross immunity , PCR testing picks up a huge amount of false positives and the fact this is far less serve than the flu for the vast majority of people.

This guy is just some nobody - it’s the clinical director of the HSE and he’s writing it in the Irish Times.

I honesty believe some people love the drama of all this and anxiously await for “the numbers” , like the lottery.

PCR testing does not pick up false positives, unless the sample has been contaminated in some way. It is highly specific. False negatives however are an issue, mainly due to the fact that they rely on the initial swab collecting enough viral material to amplify correctly.

Safe to say Leo is winning this at the moment. Any other decisions made by MM that go against public will, really will finish him and FF off once and for all

So are the ten road deaths in France today.

    10. Exactly 10? Not 11? Not 9? How do you know more didn't die after you posted that figure? You're comparing the figures from an ongoing, novel pandemic with well established historical averages.

Since FF came in its literally been one clusterf*ck after another, with their internal squabbling, firing ministers and SD doing interviews (his previous employment definitely shines thru and not as minister for health). They just do not come across well on the TV

Can't wait for them to cancel the pub opening after Leo's comments - will be all out war

That killed 17 people today out of probably 1,000 that died today in France. The fear mongering continues. It is not April 2020.

Surprised NPHET are feeling bad after the clusterf*ck that was nursing homes

MM has many monkeys on his back. Think about it, he is fighting for his political life here, not that I have any sympathy for him either. He is being led and is not the leader IMV.

Vlad is the one people actually listen to now. Who has heard anything profound or full of leadership from the Taoiseach lately? He is fighting too many battles within his own party now to speak to his people with any authority anymore.

SF are the ones to watch. But Gawd help us there. I do respect the reality of their existence to some people, but cannot get my head around the fact that there is a HUGE nefarious history going on there, and is still evident to this day.

    But we'll see what happens.

Ouch.... I know it's the Mail, but it's easy to see NPHET are being ignored by the current government. I know NPHET only advise, but before the government and NEPHET were kinda on the same page, recently, it's like they are on a different book. Public trust is key, I think they are loosing it daily.
It really reminds me of Trump and Fauci but thankfully, to a lesser extent though, but still a little disconcerting.
I only hope come Tuesday the government can get their **** together and give us a future plan/guideline.

Are nursing homes not under HIQA's remit though?
NPHET advise, they have zero power.

They are paying a FR firm cause they are so inept at getting a message across.
I think they need the situation explained to themselves though.

Didn't Donnelly recently hire two PR consultants for himself ? Fairly sure they were journalists. Money well spent there......

They obviously told him to shut his mouth for a while. And it's working. ;)

When the **** was his last appearance? Cases increasing and we haven't heard a peep from him. Bouncing on his trampoline out the ****ing back all his time.
Obviously with a crash helmet on and padded up like a biker.

    Level 1 no problem
Level 2 caution and that will include Dublin.
    Level 3 panic.
    Level 4 total panic
Level 5. It's all over folks.

Well I'm just going on what I read about the five levels and am only guessing here too.

Trying to stay lighthearted, but it ain't easy. Dublin is not looking good now. But live in hope.

As Spanish Eyes said above, must have been told to shut his mouth for a few weeks by the advisors to try take a bit of heat out from behind him.

He was getting destroyed as well in any interviews

Level 5: Leo is back in charge

If the current situation continues cannot see FF being in power til Christmas

Agreed, HIQA don't seem to be on top of their brief at all. They actually announce when they are going to inspect, but maybe that has changed now. It is all about funding I suspect.

Like most government authorities they are really just for show with the odd scoop to say they are doing their job

I understand that reasoning, when the train crashes, ya need to repair the train, but unfortunately the tracks get just as damaged (the message)

When Dublin is in a vicarious state and the Taoiseach and health minister don't say a word or give an update and it's left to the acting CMO.... that says it all.

I know about Hiqa inspections as my late mother was in a NH during the end of her lovely life. the NH was great, no issues at all, but you could see the difference when a HIQA inspection was imminent. Just because they had to, but it made no difference.

I always made sure to visit early in the morning and late at night when the usual visiting hours were over. Was no problem and everything was fine. Just to keep them on their toes. I am bad like that though!

Totally agree with you Wolf. We are rudderless, because of inter party jostling for position and trying to undermine the Taoiseach.

Hopefully it will be the end of FF. They are useless gombeens in the end and don't seem to care about people but only themselves and their ambitions and inter party fighting. I am not one bit impressed have to say.

I cannot believe I am still awake and kicking at this hour, but hey it's groundhog day and tomorrow is Sunday.

All the best to everyone, and thanks for the discussion/chat. Passed a few hours on a dull Saturday night alright. But I might be back so beware!

We need a clear message, we need someone each week to tell us/remind us what's to be done. We all know cases are increasing in Dublin. Has anyone in government got on and given us a directions/instructions to take?
Have we had our minister for health standing shoulder to shoulder with the CMO (2m apart) telling us to reduce our social contacts etc... No, the acting CMO has to take it upon himself to issue that in a twitter video.

Maybe it's just me, but I like to be advised what to do, I like to be told i'm doing something right, I like to be given praise when I do something right and I like to be warned when I'm doing something wrong. A bit of leadership from Leinster house wouldn't go a miss about now.

    https://www.santepubliquefrance.fr/dossiers/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-chiffres-cles-et-evolution-de-la-covid-19-en-france-et-dans-le-monde

    17 deaths 10560 cases today.

On average around 10 deaths occur in France everyday from road accidents.

On average around 40 deaths occur in france from the flu.

On average 10,000 deaths occur yearly in France from flu.
If you take 365 days that's just over 27 deaths a day.

Flu season runs from October to April in the northern hemisphere, so if you take the 1st of October to 30th of April that is 213 days.

So that would be just under 47 deaths a day.

Let's take the reports that France had its first covid 19 case on the 27th December 2019 as correct, to Saturday midnight which gives 261 days.
The number of French people who have died from covid 19 in this period, is 30,910 that's just over 118 deaths a day.

In Ireland the average yearly deaths from flu is 200 to 500, just going by flu season and using the 500 figure that's just over 2 deaths a day
The first case of Covid 19 confirmed here on 1st March, taking again midnight Saturday that's 196 days, 1783 deaths giving just over 9 deaths a day.
