But why no dark place for other illnesses that are far more dangerous than Covid? Why no dark place for cancer, for example? Why the focus on Covid only?

Last time I checked cancer wasn't highly contagious.

Sure, but while it's the usual p!ssing contest there's little to no science involved. We went with a blunt approach initially, rightly IMO, it did the job but we can't do that again. Lately, there have been more nuanced attempts at management and we are still learning. With a novel pathogen like this you don't take public health risks , especially as it can end right where it does the most damage.

There's loads of science involved it's just not getting a look in with the Irish media, there completely ignoring it deliberately. MM will try and be lead by NPHET and Leo will pull that rug right from under him.

A huge amount of cancers are more preventable than Covid. However, there are few restrictions implemented to save those thousands of lives.

If you mean YouTube conspiracy heads and other nutty bits of the interweb yes there is. Most of it is cherry picking, unproven and extremely ego-driven.
Leo will cool his heels for the duration, with the odd snipe. He wants the big seat too and won't intentionally undermine that.

Of course it's over, and has been over for ages, but I think that people like living through a so-called pandemic because they see themselves as surviving against all the odds. It never ends because of the bizarre obsession with cases. Amazing to think that 1.5 million people die OF TB every year yet life carries on as normal.

TB was eradicated here due to vaccination programs, unlike covid as we don't yet have a vaccine for it. TB also has know and proven effective treatment regimes.

Most countries that still have TB deaths tend to be third world countries and those with poor public health programs, and high cases of hiv infections.

Dirty drinking water is one of the biggest killers on the planet. Totally fixable with a bit of effort. But nobody really cares.

Millions die annually from completely preventable air pollution but we continue on regardless. Few people care.

No I mean well respected Dr's and Scientist, you have it all wrong. It's not some you tube conspiracy. Have a watch of the video I posted above from talk radio.

Who knows, maybe because it's a new virus that we weren't aware of at the start of the year!

Always has and always will be a dark place for other diseases like cancer.

Respected? Yeah like Killeen, McConkey, Heneghan, the Swedes etc. Talking is not proving, there needs to be actual evidence.

Shut down polluting power stations, ban polluting cars, remove plastic from the food system, remove chemicals from the food system, ban alcohol and smoking, ban processes sugar, the list is endless. All of these measures would save 10s of thousands of lives a year in Ireland alone

The poster is right. If we're going to destroy the world and humanity for one illness then logically we should do the same for other illnesses.

You obviously haven't looked at it or looked at the science backing it up, your doing Heneghan an awful disservice by lumping him in with the lockdowners Kilken and McConkey and well you know it. He's been advising our Government and the WHO, seriously have a listen to the the ex chief scientific advisory of Pfizer on talkradio above, you can't keep calling all these people crazy.
    There not guessing.

I think you miss my point.

The point is we live with these risks happily knowing we are killing people.

Covid on the other hand we want lockdowns and restricting people to their homes. Completely unproportional response in comparison to other dangers in our society.

We need to learn to live with Covid risk like we do all others.

Yeah there’s always an issue when a talk show or radio piece only invites those on one side of the debate. It seems very cut and dry with no disagreement. Glad we cleared it up, let’s open up says Rupert murdoch radio station.

In terms of evidence there is none yet as this is first northern hemisphere winter with our new virus. Might be best to try balance concerns in case it does go bad.

I only wish I watched this sooner.

I think you're wasting your time. I too have had to deal with the "YouTube conspiracy" and "conspiracy loon" insults. As one doctor noted, whose name escapes me, "the evidence is in front of our eyes, but they don't want to see it".

There are a lot. A major issue is the food we eat. A huge proportion of the population eat lots of unhealthy toxic junk food for convenience. This kills thousands every year in Ireland. Most adults in Ireland are fat.

This has a major impact during this Covid pandemic also. Covid is generally more serious for fat people, this is well recognised.

You haven't watched it then as he was challenged, we don't need to hear the other side it's been pumped through our radio and tv 24/7.
First thing I heard on the radio this morning, restrictions in place in our homes until April at least. There's nobody challenging that message or the data used to back it up.

A lot of your list aren't restrictions, they are manufacturing and processing regulations.

Also unless you are advocating for complete city or urban living, which is highly damaging environmentally, cars aren't going anywhere until a reliable long range alternative fuel source can be obtained.

He's the other end of it but also an ego-driven opinion. No I didn't watch, I really don't do people giving media opinions on things they just can't show to be true. We've far far too many of them. Now if there is something written or researched that can be applied in the real world I'm all ears.

So 15-24 year olds are the majority of the new cases? Is there any further breakdown of those numbers?

You know its ego driven but yet you haven't watched it. Where can I learn how to discover the content of something without even watching it?

The same could be said for alcohol and eating meat, but I don't think most of the people calling the restrictions we had here for covid useless etc are going to be calling for alcohol and meat to be banned.

    TD Alan Kelly's brother's company

Conor Brophy, formerly of RTE is with TENEO also.

They have links to Denis O Brien and the Clinton's.

Teneo were involved in controversy when one of Hilary Clinton's top advisors was also found to be working for Teneo at the same time.

There was also some concern when Denis O Brien's Siteserv had the the Irish Water Meter contract when Alan Kelly was Environment Minister given that Kelly's brother was Teneo CEO.

They took over Dublin PR firm PSG in 2016.

    Article on teneo below
    https://www.thejournal.ie/teneo-psg-declan-kelly-clinton-2-2884288-Jul2016/

    Quote from article
Irishman Kelly said that the acquisition strengthens the company’s capabilities “in Ireland and across Europe”.
“Ireland is a critical market for many multinational corporations today and a great place to invest in the current, volatile post-Brexit environment,” he said.
