    Time to lockdown Dublin!

'Limit your contacts this weekend' just as the Premier League returns and the usual swarm of Liverpool fans book out every pub showing the game.

    Of today’s cases:
    • 100 men, 108 women
    • 73% are under 45
    • 28% associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case; 42 from community transmission. Remainder still under investigation
    • 121 Dublin, 17 Louth, 10 Limerick, 8 Cork, 7 Westmeath, Wicklow; 6 Laois, 5 Donegal, Galway; 13 other counties

Do you remember (Djumember) way back when it was supposedly fewer women got Covid? Ireland's figures generally seem to have the same ratio or even more women..

Wonder will the six month plan basically be just "limit your contacts at the weekends".

Is this the new "RIP to all who died"? Incredibly tedious at this stage. I mean fair enough if you have something even semi-substantial to say on the issue rather than just the one sentence.

Increasingly worrying numbers. Serious issues ahead. We really need leadership at the helm now but all we have is Mickey Martin.

Passed the Aviva on the Dart this morning at around 10am. Quite a few cars in queue for testing and also quite a few people in the non-car queue, all of whom looked quite young.

They were queuing for tickets for the rugby tomorrow night.

    Nobody told them.

You do realize that most cases are asymptomatic don't you? People don't even realize they have it. Seriously like.

If they think they have it better off getting tested, especially if you work in a place that doesn't give sick days instead of spreading it to others.

Your against face masks and people getting tested.

What has asymptomatic got to do with anything, asymptomatic people aren't going for testing unless it's compulsory through work or there a close contact. OP has all the symptoms of a cold they picked up form a toddler who had a cold which was confirmed by a doctor. Now he's blocking two people with actual unexplainable symptoms from getting a test.
The other poster above needs that test to get access to help asap. Can you not see the problem with self diagnosis and misinterpreting the HSE advice, I know there trying to do the right thing but in this case it's the wrong thing it's blocking access for people who need it.

I'm not anti mask, I'm not anti testing. Why would you think i'm totally against both in all situations. It's a very wrong assumption.

I'm not sure to be honest.

I'd like some more definite instruction in some areas.

The "work from home where possible" should be work from home unless attendance at an office or wherever is completely necessary (I've noticed an increase in workplaces demanding a return and numerous public bodies still require office attendance for work that could be done at home).

I'd like to see a better plan for increasing or managing capacity on public transport, big ask but could be done particularly if we asked private bus operators that have lost out on tourist travel to help out. GoBus have an entire fleet that could be put to use.

I've said it before but testing needs to be more accessible. More test centres and maybe even online booking, a better geographic spread. In some counties you literally have to travel 50 miles plus for a test (if you have a car). The walk in centre in Rathkeale is a good idea.

Crowd control in pubs, there are literally thousands of unemployed security staff right now, they could be hired to monitor pubs (independent of the establishment) and ensure distancing and capacity are being adhered to. It seems ridiculous to expect the Gardai to continue doing this, taking up a lot of their time.

Visors, make it clear they should not be used on their own unless it's a medical necessity.

At the start the 2 metre rule was really well observed, this has slipped massively. Needs to be a focus on getting back to social distancing.

Here's something substantial: Dublin is clearly the hot-bed at the minute. They were quick to shut down virtual non-entities like Laois and Offaly as almost a cover up for their mis-management in meat factories in particular, yet when its clear one area is worse than most of the country, its seen as tedious.

I don't have a problem with people believing Dublin needs new restrictions. What I see as tedious is someone posting "Lock down Dublin" with nothing else added. It adds nothing to the conversation and is just basically low-level trolling.

It's strange, the majority of cases in those areas were linked to specific outbreak events, in high risk areas and they had a "lockdown" to prevent contagion into the wider public.

Dublin is recording a significant uptick from a series of unknown sources that is then transmitting between households and they're doing... nothing. It will (and already has) spillover to the rest of the country.

I wouldn't argue if they asked us dubs to stick to our own country for a few weeks.

I'd even happily go along with a 5km radius restriction, although that may be a lot less effective than before with schools now open.

It's a warm weekend coming from the looks of things and we all have country homes to retreat to

    That's a 12.5% increase!
