Have any of you ever used car wow. I was aware of the concept, but its a clever and very well executed when I tried it out.

I signed up last week, specced up a fiesta and got 4 prices from 4 different dealers within a few hours. They don't get my name or any personal details unless I want to proceed. There was a £1500 range in the prices and it's simple and to the point. Would be good for the Irish market I would think.

we dont have the same level of competition, some of the value in the UK is mind blowing.

such a pity, had my mind made up on one but none in the country and 5.9% finance quickly ended that idea

The finance is the killer alright but an ST is a fairly bespoke order car (in Ireland at least), so it generally will be a factory order. If you were to order one today I'm sure you'd have it in January.

It would be nice to have a spin in a demo though! Unfortunately it seems Ford aren't bothered about anything other than bread/butter models and their finance rates are uncompetitive, which just sends people flocking to the VW/Seat garage.

It's likely Ford will do some 2021 offers surely, with Covid etc especially ??

I was going to start a new thread, but the title suits me down to the ground.

Just sold my 13 E300 Diesel Hybrid Estate.

Plenty of work done lately it's in great condition and I loved the car, but it was at 250k km. Had I hit 300k I flat out wouldn't have sold it without taking a very big financial hit.

I do 2X 200km p/w motorway, and approx 150k p/w urban-ish. I want a car I can get out of after 200k on the motorway and not feel tired - the Merc was amazing for this. I don't really want to downgrade in this regard.
    • I'd prefer to keep to 15-17k.
    • This car took a while to sell - I want something in demand that I can shift in a year or so without losing too much.
    • I'd find it hard to go without an estate.
    • Diesel may get hit with tax in the near future - and at least talk of it will drop diesel values.
    • PHEV has €2500 VRT discount. But then I'm looking at almost €18-20k to get into PHEV territory, and will likely be no fuel saving.

Merc C350e? Passat GTE? A Golf GTE is too small really.

Help, where do I go next?!

........ I want something in demand that I can shift in a year or so without losing too much.
    ............!

I dunno about a specific car but doing circa 30k kms with the desire not to lose too much come selling time I'd buy something with over 160k kms on it now so that the mileage you are doing will average down the miles/annum or at least not increase it.

You should minimise depreciation with that approach I reckon.

I'd have suggested an IS300h but the estate preference knocks that off the list.

A 330d estate with 100k miles on it is no doubt the right answer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,302 ✭✭✭kirving

You're correct on the milage, but there's certainly a barrier to selling privately beyond 100k miles I think. If I go to the UK, I can't really buy privately to offset the loss I'll have selling privately.

I don't mind paying a bit of a premium (price + running cost) for the right car, but I want to go into new purchase with one eye on resale too.

My housemate has a CT200h, and while it's very smooth and an excellent car in it's own right, I just find the interior is very tight.

Just check, a '16 (for low NOx), is €5,300 VRT, so €20k all in which is more than I want to spend really.

Going older, NOx is €2500 alone.

Sorry Kevin, yeah my answer on here lately to anyone looking where to go next has been a 330d touring...bit of an unfunny joke, but no such thing as bad publicity eh?!

Yeah, I bought a brand new Audi Q3 through it. One of the managers of the company in the UK was getting one and gave me a quote from a garage to approve it. I had watched so many matt Watson videos i said I'd give it a go and was getting offers from garages all over UK.
Basically it's a way of saying to all dealers, I want this car now let's have your best offers. Saved about 3 grand I think, he lost 1 thing on options but he didn't mind.

Sorry totally went over my head! As much as I'd like to, it really is beyond my budget.

I've got a few 320d's, and more recently 320i's in Munich as rentals and always liked them, but importing ne results in me paying Revenue 2k in tax, and (rightly or wrongly) I see that as getting 2k less car.

Vintage’s 330d is an Irish car, no vrt. It’s also a really nice one that moves along very well.

I had a late 13 330d and the Nox was a few hundred. The same on a 14 430d. Where did you get that figure from?

You didn't import them in 2020 though surely?

As some of ye know, I'm selling my 330d. Link to ad posted recently. I reduced the price by 1300 today but doubt if the phone will start lighting up. I checked the vrt+ Nox to bring one over and it's 6k.
    Screenshot-20200910-201937-com-android-chrome.jpg

So knock 6k off my price for a UK reg one and it's 12,500 euro, which is 11,500 of the queen's finest. UK is bigger market so I can find similar cars there to mine with spec and millage and prices below.

Great value at that I would have thought. Bumping the ad might help. Are you on backroads.ie? If so would be worth posting a for sale ad on there too.

Thing about comparing your price to the UK price + NOx charge is that people just change their expectations and buy a 330e, go petrol, or use it to justify coming up a few years and putting a few k more into a newer car.

Having just privately sold my diesel which I can't replace easily for similar money, I felt the price was too low as the buyer would have had to spend €2.5k on a NOx charge to get the same car. In perspective though, they would have just bought something else.

Yeah I think you're right on this, been thinking same myself as the nox charge would stop me from bringing one in now.

What’s wrong with the right side of the car and the tailgate and indeed roof? People looking online want to see each side of the car not just the left. I’d also change to the interior photo to a brighter one and add one of the back seats and the speakers. Indeed I’d change the external photos to ones taken on a bright day instead of the arty ones your using.

The ad starts by saying it’s ‘Standard Unmodified’ and then goes on to mention all the modifications made inc headlights/ body kit plus all the factory extra’s. This is confusing for somebody reading it.

Look at how the better BMW dealers present their car ads and try to mimic those as much as possible.

I don’t think it’s too expensive however most 3 series buyers don’t care about the engine so you might have to a little more patient waiting for the right buyer, but for somebody into their Beemers it’s going to be a very attractive car.

The DL reg would also be very off putting to most people.

It's missing the right rear door and has a hole in the roof so wanted to hide that. :)

You're right though, I agree photos aren't great. Must get it washed in and out and take some better ones as you say.

To be fair I think the location is probably making it more difficult. Most of the population is 3 hours + away, it won't put everyone off, but it will for some.

I wouldn't go reducing the price any further, you're looking for a specific type of buyer & it just takes time. Seperately, huge chunk of the country are working from home, so aren't driving. They're daydreaming about M3's not mile munching 3.0 Diesels for the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,835 ✭✭✭carsfan2

Have you tried getting a value for the car from any of the we buy your car types like Zucars etc,
If not I would as it might be a hassle free way of moving on, although you obviously won’t get top dollar but time might be running out to import from U.K. if brexit goes off the rails if that’s where you’re thinking.
I hate to say but I agree a DL reg would put off some buyers.

What about selling in NI and claiming the vrt export rebate?

Yeah I did that with my golf and it's just a bit of hassle. Was worth it with the golf as the money involved was a lot higher.
