Early 20s and I like big estates. My first car was a 93 1.9tid estate which I've owned nearly two years, love it to bits but it needs quite a lot of work, potentially up to 4k worth and it was only my first car bought as a stopgap that I ended up keeping because it was so lovely to drive. Bought it for under 2k originally, passed one NCT and failed her next one on rust.

Looking now at the Volvo V60 (D5 only), BMW E91/E61 2.0 diesels (would need a chain) or maybe something different. No volkswagens!

Basically looking for a DIESEL wagon around 08-12 that's a bit interesting and a bit nicer/more different then the yokes an average early 20's fella might buy. Anything I'm missing?

Just checking if you have had an issues with your 50e related to the Check Engine Light , or the cooling valve so far?

I was going ordering a i30N all was good with sales guy. So I specified if it would have the fancy bucket seats that are lighter than stock ones and are nice to look at and the N badge in them light up and he got back to me saying that is not an option in Ireland, shame I said as I really liked them. So I asked how much it would cost with a colour and he said he would get back to me. I said that's fine. He got back to me later and said you cannot order now as a facelift is due.

I was disappointed but probably a good thing as I had a massive unannounced family bill come up. Maybe in the future I can order it.

I also have read since online that they may be quietening down the exhaust in FL model. I hope it's not true as that is one of the reasons I really wanted one was for the pops and bangs they make. Yes I know childish and I'm not even that young but that appealed to me.

No, no issues at all. Someone else i know also picked his 50e on the same day as myself and he didn't have any issue either. There was an intermittent issue where the rear cabin light will turn on when I turn on rear wiper but that hasn't happened for the past couple of months. Perhaps the software upgrade has fixed it. You must be getting your delivery soon? What colour did you go for?

    Skyscraper Grey.

i was due to get it mid March, but delivery is now pushed out to end of May due to issues in the factory.

Tried doing similar around two years ago. No bucket seats available, no "larger" infotainment screen available in Ireland. Initially, they even told me the facelift wasn't being released in Ireland! The previous model wasn't available in Ireland with the heated seats, heated steering wheel or brace in the boot.

Haven't seen any info on a new model! No doubt will be hitting 60k

It only took nearly 10 years since the thread was started but a sensible car has once again gone out the window! I’ve a few bits ordered like new wheel nuts and original coloured wheel caps but today I gave it a quick wash! Irish car, extensive history, all the important stuff done / checked. Not anywhere near as quick as the E92 M3 I once owned but it’s not about speed, there’s just something about these cars.

do you know what, I drove the MX-5 on Sunday to get some juice into it for the next owner and it still felt like such a brilliant little car after two days driving the 911. Obviously totally different offerings but it felt light, nippy, gearbox and clutch require an awful lot less effort and I think that speaks volumes about just how hard to beat they are for the money involved.

    Gorgeous looking car Mark, congrats!

    looks great Mark.

Well wear. We need more photos and info on it.

Hard to beat a 911. Lovely car.

Probably wont lose a penny over the next few years. Running costs will keep the wallet under pressure though no doubt.

One of the reasons I justified it, values are only really going one way on them. I’ll spend more on tax a year than petrol, that’s for sure.

Will take some proper pictures over the next week.

Wasn't sure where to post this, a nice look at the new M3 CS Touring. Other than that front grille I think it looks fantastic, love that blue colour too. Will it ever see the light of day over here though I wonder?

€220,270 and available from March if you’re interested?

Just shows what a steal the new M5 is and the absurdity of our taxation system on cars.

Exactly the same price i paid for my house.

14 years later I still owe the price of the M5!

    March you say? Hmmm. 😁

Some price tag alright. What's the M5, 140k or thereabouts? Even if I had the funds I wouldn't pay that either but I get your point.

Thankfully, unlike any new BMW your house has gone up in value!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,623 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

it goes to show what a relative bargain tbe m5 is I've seen 3 251s now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,412 ✭✭✭MarkN

exactly what I thought when I saw the price. Almost 100k cheaper!

You know this is a thread you started ten years ago? Time flies. 😎

There were few well used BMWs outside it over the years that will attest to that. Loved the old high tax and cheap price Beemers as a young lad! Never bought a new one

I know you recently bought a 911 as your fun car but what do you run as a daily nowadays Markn?

Or do you get enough press cars not to need one? If so what would you buy as a daily yourself New or used with a budget up to 80k?
