Probably been asked loads already but :

    1. I'm an existing 3 customer on a €30 monthly rolling contract. Any reason I can't switch to this?

    2. Can payment be done by direct debit?

You're free to leave 3 whenever you want.

Payment is done by card. Can be set to auto renew which is what most people will do.

Just make sure your phone is unlocked before moving.

Anyone already on 48 try the RECRUIT link in My 48 where they send up to 5 SIMs to "distribute" to friends?

Is anyone finding errors when entering their address....when entering eircode it gives someone else's eircode with the same address and won't allow completion without eircode.

I see what you mean. You can't edit the address. I have the same issue on some websites wherever they get their data from is wrong. I noticed this on other sites but most allow you edit. Maybe send them a message on the live chat and see if they can do anything their side.

Maybe not the best thread to ask but.
    How's roaming with 48 ?
I'm with gomo and when going abroad always having issues, it works when leaving plane for couple of minutes/hours and then goes dead.
Manual selecting local provided one day works with one and then can't connect and you need to select different one and all that every day.
At one point sim card stopped working at all even when I returned to Ireland and they had to replace it.
Different phones used with t/s and different locations/countries.

So how it is with 48 ?

    Thans

I'm going to give this a miss. I keep getting the error - "Looks like you're accessing this page from outside Ireland".

If they can't sort out their systems, this will be more grief than it's worth for a few Euro.

Ordered a SIM to try out because why not! Got that nonsense about being outside Ireland as well but it worked ok on MS Edge for me.

Yes it's the cheapest unlimited package as far as I know.

Having issus ordering a SIM. I had an account with them years ago, and when attempting to order a SIM, its saying I need to login. When I do, I can't access anything because its telling me i need to order SIM, but doesn't provide me with a method to do that. Anyone hit this?

Can you topup via text instead of having it attached to a credit/debit card? Don't want any surprises like premium text scam etc

Only the membership will come out (€7.99). For any other expenses you need credit which needs to be added manually as far as I know.

You can opt out of premium rate numbers.

In any case there's no credit balance to be consumed. To get extra credit to be used on out of plan services requires manual top up beyond the 7.99 charge per month.

There should be no surprise premium rate charges.

I pinged them on Twitter about this and they could delete my old account for me no probs.

Got the same but downloaded the mobile app and did it with that no problems.

Could I get one of these sims and put it into a 4g router that accepts sims? Anybody tried?

EDIT: Went back further in the thread and see it works!

Yeah they allow them be used as a hotspot. Just pop it in a phone first to remove the SIM pin as that can cause trouble on some routers.

Probably no harm taking it out every once in a while and making a call too just to be on the safe side.

What network does this piggy back? And what is coverage like?

    Three.

In my experience Three is the worst of the 3 main networks, but it depends on where you are TBH. Tesco, Lyca, Virgin all use Three's network as well.

Would it have full access to the three network or a not as good

There's no bill, it's pay as you go, the max spend amount is within your control (7.99 for the 100GB plan/membership). You can't use any out of plan services without adding more credit which is also under your control.

It works more like pay as you go than Gomo. You buy the membership each month but you can't accidentally call China for 2 hours without having topped up your account with credit so you're more in control of your charges with 48. It depends what you prefer though. Some might find this a pain having to keep track of credit whereas if you call the UK on Gomo for example you can for as long as you want and they will just bill you for it.

I have ad 3 teenagers on 48 for several years and never had a problem with phone service or customer service on the occasions I needed help.

The current €9.99 plan is great value. And the GB should double to 40 on the next topup.
With wifi at home and college, they never run out of data.

A previous poster was concerned about running out with 100GB. You would want to be doing a lot on your phone to use 100GB in a month.

Cheers for that because when i was looking on 48's terms pages I didn't really see it like it had on gomo,

Thinking of moving the mother from 3 to 48 and as we live on the border and plenty of calls does be made to NI and didn't want the bill to be mad but if it goes by top up great, I tried her on gomo but coverage was crap so had to go to 3 back a few months ago.

Are calls to northern Ireland included in this bundle?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,283 ✭✭✭irishchris

I have had nightmares today with 48. Port went through successfully and easy within 20 mins but no sign of the 7.99 bundle. There is only 9.99 and 14.99 bundles. Spent 40 minutes with chat before he eventually said he couldn't do anything but open a case and should hopefully hear within a few days. Very annoyed at the lack of clarity from them but in saying that on occasions in past I have been with 48 network and were excellent so giving them the benefit of the doubt on this one

No but AFAIK 048 prefix can be used for NI landline calls to avoid extra charges...
    https://community.48.ie/t5/Most-Popular-Questions/Calling-Northern-Ireland-landlines/td-p/36760
...but calls to NI mobiles are not included.

If close enough to border to roam on a NI network then calls to NI mobiles would be included as a UK roaming call.

If SIM was activated on 8th onwards then it should have 7.99 option available.
    100GB Membership

This 100GB membership is only available to new 48 customers who activate their 48 SIM (by inputting activation code found on sim packaging on https://48.ie/activate-sim) and purchase a 100GB membership between the 8th September 2020 and the 10th November 2020 (Offer Period”). If your first 100GB membership purchase is during the Offer Period, you can continue to purchase this 100GB membership until such time as you leave the 48 service. However if you switch to another 48 membership you will not be permitted to switch back to the 100GB membership.
