Dublin probably getting restricted. Nothing much else.

You may be right. Hopefully not the full shebang.

Yes. Dublin and Limerick. But where are the transmission happening.

Not sure I would like the 2km limit again but 5km limit? Is the App helping? Maybe it can be used to track movements in respect to the limit

Leave phone at home - what’s it going to track then? Another lockdown is a foolish idea as it cannot be enforced anywhere and it certainly won’t have any compliance this time around.

    It's happening in people's homes.
Tell people to stop having guests in Dublin.

It doesn't totally explain it though

Iraq , Peru, Ecuador , Mexico and Bolivia have very young populations and large numbers of deaths
Perhaps differences in rates of obesity and diabetes between those continents are playing in to death rates. Genetic differences could be in play.

Perhaps they got lucky with cross-protection/some level of preexisting immunity from another virus. That is being explored by analysing old/stored blood samples.

An interplay between diseases sometimes occurs. For example, sickle cell is somewhat protective against malaria so frequency of sickle cell is higher in malaria endemic areas.

There is also a suspicion that in some countries, deaths are being underreported. If no PUP, I can imagine a scenario where you bury your family member quietly and go to work rather than let your children starve.

I usually listen to the radio when out and about. Maybe just delete the App and avoid restaurants etc.

This is were virus spreads. Indoors. The more mixing of households in a non controlled manner. Tell people no guests in your house if you live in Dublin or Limerick.

Strange the way some think Dublin are immune to restrictions but it was ok when it was Laois,Kildare and Offaly.

You should be advising Donnelly. Far more sense than whoever else is.

And just exactly how much compliance or attention do you think people will pay to such a request? I’ll give you a hint - the number looks like the letter O.

    Who cares?

Restricted, cant leave county until numbers come down. Theres an incentive. Restricted to your county and no restaurants etc. until people WISE UP as health minister in north said recently.

Some will. Some won't. Such is life...

So you think absolutely nobody in Dublin or Limerick would follow the restrictions people in Kildare, Offlay and Laois did? That's a sad reflection on the people of those counties.

    Hi Folks,
Just a quick question. Is there a break down of where within Dublin the recent cases have been?
Central, blanch, liffey valley, Drumcondra, etc...

    Thanks.

    Waste of money I'd say.

Better to invest money on improving testing.

    https://www.google.ie/amp/s/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN25X00K

Excess deaths in Mexico as of August 1st are recently reported to be almost 123,000, equating to nearly 0.1% of the population of the country. With thousands more in August and September Mexico likely has the highest excess deaths level in the world, surpassing even Peru and Ecuador.

Oh I’m sure there are some like on here positively rubbing their hands at the prospect of it - the rest of us won’t pay much attention. That’s not a sad reflection, it’s a realistic reflection. Lockdown has been and gone, and if they can’t come up with a new approach To managing this like restricting the areas those cases are in then that’s on them and nobody else. I won’t be restricting my movements because a specific town full of “culture“ is causing these numbers, they have nothing to do with me.

Well kind of obvious it wouldn't happen if case numbers don't improve.

It wasn't okay. It was a disgrace that they gave a free pass to meat factories then lockdown the whole of the population in those counties. Cases increasing isn't enough of a justification for a lockdown in the whole of Dublin, with such a large and concentrated population. It would also be a hard sell without deaths and hospitalisations increasing.

Edit: it's also a case of the boy who cried wolf by bombarding the public with negative nareatives accompanying data the past few months, especially with the whole "the next two/three weeks are crucial".

As discussed earlier a non story. Was said when the announcement was made on their reopening that it would depend on local restrictions. If theres local restrictions they don't open in those areas. If there isn't they open.

Local restrictions affect more than just pubs which is exactly what the article points out

just had cold callers to the house.. I didn’t answer but went to the front door after 5 NO’s were told to them.. I’m looking out my window and they’ve been at my 90 year old neighbors front door, one with his foot ‘IN’ his porch... for about 15 minutes...a 6’4” smartly dressed Irish fella about 40 / early 40’s and a much smaller 5’7” scruffy looking African gentleman in less professional attire including an old red jacket... didnt get an opportunity to hear what they are plugging or collecting...

If you are responsible for sending these fûcking pair of scumbag dweebs around to people uninvited with smarmy aggressive, invasive and persistent attitudes, instead of fives NO’s it might be a bunch of fives, if I happen to open the door...next time.

Back at the end of March I was posting updates about a Cork bouncer I'm friendly with who got covid at the same time as his elderly mother. Here he is describing his experience on Monday night's episode of Love and Loss in a Pandemic.

He's an all-around sound fella and to hear him talking here with the wind knocked out of him is pretty heartbreaking stuff. He's like a different person. I remember thinking at the time it'll be great to see him out and about when we all get through this sh!t but I dunno what that reunion will look like really.
