300+ new cases today and rumblings that this uptick in cases might have an impact on pubs in Dublin & Limerick, due to potential local restrictions.

Shows the need to be careful!

So the opening was on solid ground for less than six hours. Sure is it any wonder publicans are wary.

But of course people will go crazy and they will be jam packed in some locations, eg Temple Bar.

Nonsense. Where will the people who are going to jam pack Temple Bar going to come from?

Imagine if we had done what South Africa did and banned the sale of alcohol at start of this virus??

It would somehow probably increase our alcohol consumption to be fair :D:D

We would have just brought it over the border......

End is near and no turning back now for government

Looking forward to a bit of spontaneity coming back into the irish social life.

Great having the choice back of either eating an over priced meal (just to get a few pints) or just drop in a pint or 2

With the earlier closing time for the short term, you just have to go at it earlier and do the can drinking after

So you’ve got your few pints and then it’s a taxi home. Is it 1 person to a taxi? It’s €25 for me to get home unless I share a taxi.

They were talking about having someone in there for crowd control. One Tesco I saw had a traffic light system for store entry. Something like that could work in busier places.

And hopefully, the same checker will also be given the task of ensuring that everyone uses the hand sanitiser before entering AND after leaving, with no exceptions.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

If the traffic light is anything like supermarkets it just means it's easier to ignore. Scum are less likely to skip when it's a person there.

Good point made by a poster in another thread earlier.

With the numbers increasing rapidly (at the same time as the schools reopen), will the NPHET lads and lassies just point the blame at the pubs in say early October if numbers keep going up just to say 'Told you so' and shut them again.

nphet can't close or open the pubs, that is a government decision.
if there is a decision to close them again that will be your elected politicians.
whether they would close them again or not if there was enough to show a link between pubs and a high number of cases, i could not say either way.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

I've been out a few nights and taxi men have no issed with 2 or 3 drops

Once the pubs are back open, it will be extremely difficult to close them again.

If the numbers stay as high as they are not a hope of the pubs reopening

We need a rule that if people are getting a bit too merry in the pub and you see someone with their phone out filming, you take the phone and smash it. We don't need any more viral videos of people not social distancing

We live in the era of social media, likes, tiktok, instagram, facebook etc., snap snap record record :D

Best of luck to all the pubs reopening, I hope I never hear wet pubs again

Just came here to say that I can't fecking wait! Nothing but doom, gloom and misery shoved down our throats by the media for the last 6 months. Now we finally have a chink of normality, bring on the pints!

You seem a bit to merry.

The thoughts of the first night they're open turns my stomach, it'll be like Stephens day and Arthurs day rolled into one. We really are a pathetic country.

And this is from someone who worked in bars for 10 years.
