It's not really a change of message. It's the same intention which is contingent in what's going on with cases, just as it was in June, July and August.

It would be interesting to see when the person did sadly die - RIP.

No real changes in ICU to put it down to that.

Well there was someone posting here 4 or 5 days ago saying they had lost someone very close to them to Covid that day.

Virgin Media really milking the number today by going back to Zara King a 2nd time. No doubt RTÉ will have a special fear mongering program on tonight with Tomas Ryan, Gerry Killeen.

And the other rent a quote Sam Conkey. They love seeing their names in lights.

I disagree. No cases/clusters linked to pubs/restaurants was a common remark that was thrown around here for a long while. Now that it's become a bit less credible to claim that you don't hear it as much.

Were there clusters in the establishments you’re talking about? Did staff members pass it on to customers or a few other colleagues, or did they just close as a precaution because one staff member tested positive?

Local lockdown or not in Dublin I'm still gonna have to go to work like many others not much will really change.

To be honest if they bring in restrictions for Dublin and Limerick what difference will it make ultimately? Close a few places tell people to limit there contacts etc etc sure look how that went in Kildare. If anything people will probably rebel against it as they tend to do.

Quite well. The numbers dropped off significantly

Surely Dublin and limerick should have restrictions now?

Only people for essential reasons to be going in or out of these counties for next month.

No socialising in anyone else's houses in these counties.

    Restaurants takeaway only.

    Keep pubs closed.

Kite flying by politicians to the think pubs can open safely in Dublin/limerick or anywhere else.

They'll need far stricter restrictions for Dublin. For a start, the proportion of people that use public transport on a casual basis in Dublin (for non essential reasons) is an exponential multiple of those in Laois, Offaly or Kildare would.

Now would be the time for the NTA to step up and recommend a temporary significant increase in scheduled services to allow for social distancing on LUAS, DART and Dublin Bus if possible. Doubtful they'll do it though.

Some offices are implementing "experimental" returns to offices but this will be shut down on a blanket basis I imagine.

Cases rising sharply again. Schools open. Pubs about to reopen. The "me me me" people have spoken. Say goodbye to any elderly relatives now. One way or another you wont be seeing them for a long time if at all.

Ya because they will be off to the pub to meet their mates instead of being stuck inside miserable.

That was made clear earlier. Local restrictions affect more than pubs opening

Local sure but this says could affect reopening at all. But guess that was going to be way anyway

Government messaging has gone to ****e. Please limit your contacts. If this keeps going we might need to think about lockdowns. We have to get schools open for the sake of the kids. Oh by the way we're planning on reopening pubs.It makes no sense. Do we have a problem or not?

Yea maybe bring back the full lockdown and push the cases out until January...makes sense...

Good stuff by fergal bowers on rte when reporting on today’s figures. He didn’t just give the daily number. He gave context.

It's largely from people socialising in larger groups, not other things.

Sam McConkey is saying nationwide lockdown for 6 weeks.

Can we lock McConkey down for 6 weeks instead?

Quite well. The numbers dropped off significantly

I meant it more in a sense that I know for a fact an awful lot of people took it as a situation where your telling us we can't do this so where gonna do it even more. The numbers because of clusters where always gonna go down once they got a hold of the situation thankfully.

I presume it means if restaurants are open in the county on that date then pubs will open too.

He gave the 307 number but mentioned the trend of there being a lag on Tuesdays from the weekend and that the fact that a high number are close contacts so the source is known. He also talked about trends.

No point in locking down entire counties, in Limericks case at least they just need to lockdown Rathkeale and we’ll be sorted (none of them have the balls to call out where all the cases popping up here are coming from though ).

Also generally better immune systems in summer.

Yes. I think we can get through the winter if we’re sensible. Social distancing above all else seems to be the most effective weapon we have available.

December is the prime month for respiratory illness transmission. I assume that traditional xmas office parties, 12 pubs, packed pubs etc will be rare this year!
