The article earlier says Dublin pubs won't be opening with the rest of the countrys I'd say that's going to go down like a lead balloon, wonder will they backtrack once the outrage starts.

I think you may have forgotten to have your coffee this morning S1ppy :D
That behavioural scientist from NPHET on Claire Byrne is very good.
They are kinda admitting that "hiding numbers from people" doesn't make them calm.
Or lying to them(masks) really isn't good.
It's proven to give the real information but also ways to mitigate it.

What do they mean by "hiding numbers"? Do they mean the backlog of numbers that happen during the week?

Do NPHET have a behavioural scientist on their committee, or are they just represented on a sub-committee?

Not sure where you got that from ?
    On rte article
"It is understood that Cabinet has agreed that pubs that do not serve food will be able to reopen from 21 September.

This will be subject to local restrictions that may arise from time to time.

Other items such as international travel restrictions and attendance at sports events are likely to be dealt with in the Government's medium term Living With Covid-19 plan, which is set to be published next Monday."

What did he say about masks? Are they finally going to used fact based science that they all agreed with most of the working careers.

Independent mentioning Dublin alright but that won’t happen.
I’m absolutely delighted for all the publicans. They needed this date and to start getting on with things.

It'll be interesting to see what the plan next Monday sets out for sports attendances. The current restrictions in place expire on the 13th.

Hopefully it'll go back to the 200 at a minimum

Well it looks like now its 21st everywhere unless there's local restrictions put in place (like Kikdare, Offaly and Loais had)

The next week is crucial for Dublin pubs.

Hence the line of pubs reopen subject to local restrictions that might be in place. As Glynn said, next week will tell

I personally think it should be far more. Especially with Inter county starting up soon and with large stadiums in use they can all manage at least a few thousand at each game. Surely croke Park 30/40k?
    Paric Ui Chaoimh 15/20k?

TBH they're outdoor games so risk is much less but 30/40k sounds frightening :pac:

Be interesting to see what the actual demand will be when they do open. Wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of pubs opening up, but with few or no customers to serve. Time will tell

I think it will be politically very damaging to open up pubs and at the same time introduce restrictions in Dublin.

Probably won't get a decent idea until the first weekend.

Might stagger out the demand over the week

Unlikely to be that large even if it's just to avoid people gathering and socializing before and after the matches.

What ever they do they need to control it better than whats going on at the GAA games up north 15k + stadiums and adults sitting on each others knees in the stands.

Sure if they did have restrictions in Dublin and someone wanted to go for a pint, 15 minute walk into Bray which is wicklow.

    Wouldn't make alot of sense

So, if the so called wet pubs open on the 21st, will you be able to have a drink without buying a meal in the food pubs already open from then on?

Nah, will be longer than the first weekend, that'll probably be the busiest. 2nd, 3rd weekend after opening will likely be when it settles out. It might actually end up balancing things out as you say, where folk couldn't get a booking for Saturday or Sunday will arrange to meet friends on Monday or Tuesday instead. Could be good.

The fast food outlets located near pubs will be ‘devastated’ when that happens. They will probably claim compensation for loss of income?

Wonder what restrictions they mean for Limerick and Dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,449 ✭✭✭✭stephenjmcd

The below is main headline in today's independent. Wasn't that always the case though? I remember it being said numerous times schools wouldn't close automatically.

Parents and teachers' alarm as classes continue at schools despite confirmed cases of Covid-19.

"Classes are continuing in full at some schools despite confirmed cases of Covid-19, sparking alarm among parents and teachers' unions.

At least two schools have continued classes as normal following public health advice after there were confirmed cases of the virus."

And... will we ever hear the phrase "wet pubs" again after that date? I really hope not..
