I've not been to the cinema since maybe February. I'm absolutely dying to go.

God help me if 007 gets delayed again :D

The economy is going to suffer badly until we get rid of the restrictions.

Do you mean get rid of restrictions? Or get rid of the virus?

What’s that smiley face for? It 100% will be enforced.

I'm assuming you have a source on this?

No pub can survive for long under so many conditions

I can't see all the drinkers of the country staying seated with table service etc ......... and I don't think all publicans will step up either. Many of them are open (side door) now despite being closed (front door).

Odd. There is an unusual discourse out there that think that Irish people don't like to sit down when they are drinking. All I want to do in a pub is sit down, relax, and chat to the company I'm with. Pubs that have standing space are for those who lost out on a seat and it's too late/cold to go anywhere else.

Irish people are compliant with restrictions and will be when the pubs open (though there will be exceptions to the rule).

    cos it's ridiculous .
I really doubt it, there will be a significant backlash.

i find ronan glynns response tonight very different to what would have been said 6 weeks ago under these case numbers. Glynn would have said "no way not under these numbers not for the forseeable future will pubs open" Now hes saying they probabaly will open

that's not a big deal really, the information now probably shows that reopening the non-food pubs wouldn't entail the same risks now as it would have weeks ago.
remember that information changed quite quickly right through this as new information and understanding on the virus was gained.

i think we can see from that statement that ronan glynn and nyphet are lowly but surely being put back in thier box.

not at all, remember that nphet were only ever advisers, it was the government who decided whether to take that advice or not and make the decisions based on the choice they made.

Not for that, but the government should absolutely have supports in place for crushing an industry by keeping it closed during its peak months for far too long.

i believe they have issued a support package, one that is affordable given the country's current circumstances though.
the reality is that there is just much much more important things to pay for then supports for pubs.
we need to get the waiting lists for treatments down for example.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

Some welcome news, long overdue I say. Pubs have been unfairly maligned for months, used as a glorified whipping post. Meanwhile significant clusters have occurred in meat factories, which then reopened within days. That introduced another level of hypocrisy, exposing the cowardly leadership by our government. While the taps remained dry, loans/rates (remember them?) have gobbled up any remaining income with many publicans forced out of operation for good. Better late than never to right a terrible wrong however, allow some businesses on their knees a shot in the arm. Minimum grace period of a month (not a week Ronan), subject to routine inspections. Any owners flouting regulations are red carded. Let's get some coin circulating in the local, they need it more than ever. And the mental health of regulars who enjoy the odd porter or two restored to parity.

    Thank god.

I love a pint. I am happy to go out for dinner and/or drink at home. I was never one to push the opening of pubs so I can feed a habit. All pubs in my local area are open as restaurants and are small. All of them are OK with you having a drink or two beyond your 105 mins. After driving through some smaller towns on my staycation I can see why pubs need to open. It might be too late for them now, but small villages and smaller towns have turned into ghost towns.

If people don't like to face the reality that pubs are a central part of rural (and urban) Ireland, then they are living in the wrong country or are just pushing their prohibition agenda. This is no longer about the virus, it is about giving companies the chance to operate and closing if they can't comply.

Seriously - describe a small town in Ireland and detail what's in it; a GAA field/club, a church, a few houses, a local shop, two pubs. It is a central part of our culture for the good or for the bad.

As long as people don't go crazy in pubs like just before lockdown, it should be ok.

But of course people will go crazy and they will be jam packed in some locations, eg Temple Bar.

Its the superspreaders going from one pub to another I'd be worried about. Just wait for the usual Christmas pub crawls.

If you go to a pub, you should be encouraged to stay their for the entire evening.

    Great news for all. Hooraaaay!

Just have to hope that some people don't go over the top and ruin it for everyone else!

I really worry about the damage this is going to do to the country for the sake of placating money grubbing publicans and morons who care more about having a few pints than killing off their vulnerable neighbours. Particularly as we head into Winter, it's going to be a disaster.

Pubs should stay closed so we can open up more and more things that actually matter safely, as we have been doing successfully in recent months.

Going for a pint in your local = killing your vulnerable neighbor.

Interesting logic you've got going there

Any Irish person going into temple bar at any time needs their head testing. Theres usually not many in it at all. Utter rip off.

I agree you should be able to stay for the evening. The 1hr 45 basically encourages pub crawls. I would expect most to be sensible when it comes to this and not be telling people to leave and or have the measures in place to allow no time limit

He's not wrong. There's currently a virus spreading throughout the world killing the vulnerable. You could easily pick it up in the pub and pass it onto your neighbour.

We can be happy that the pubs are open but let's not pretend we are putting the vulnerable at risk here!

I'd exempt The Place Bar, which is technically in Temple Bar. The rest are truly dreadful

Yeah true that is the one place well run and not charging 8 quid a pint. Such as the temple bar pub etc. Wouldn't go near the place

Feels a bit too soon after the schools open but I'm all for it. Pubs were already effectively open. Does this mean we won't have to get food?
