He’s obviously casing out the bank across the street. Clock is to check when cash in transit arrives and leaves.

That would be great. I got the children’s allowance last week.

i find ronan glynns response tonight very different to what would have been said 6 weeks ago under these case numbers. Glynn would have said "no way not under these numbers not for the forseeable future will pubs open" Now hes saying they probabaly will open, i think we can see from that statement that ronan glynn and nyphet are lowly but surely being put back in thier box.

They could have just f**ked off a month ago when they were supposed to. Got a pat on the back, you did a **** job but you stepped up and tried anyway. But no, they stuck around for too long. Started to abuse their influence for non-covid ideological reasons.

Not helped at all by our emasculated government being advised by former journalists telling them not to make any decisions, leave it to NPHET, otherwise their pals that are still in media will destroy you.

So it's looking like 21st September for reopening with restrictions of course. It's an appalling choice for publicans affected. Reopen going into a traditionally quite few months ahead, likely trade at continuing losses etc. The paltry supports being offered at best might help with perspex screens, sanitizers etc, Staff and indeed some owners will come off PUP payment and just sail into the unknown for at minimum a year of uncertainty and very little sign of any compensation. The insurance companies also are clearly digging their heals in also.

Stay closed, manage as best they can, the losses, leave staff off to continue with PUP payments albeit they too are reducing, basically minimise losses by keeping doors shut for the foreseeable future.

Not a choice I'd want to be making but one thing for sure, if government think these venues can suddenly open their doors in late September and somehow magically trade their way out of this mess with free pints all round for Christmas, their sadly mistaken. I know what I'd be doing if I had a small rural pub. This is going to take years to recover from, if that's even possible at this stage.

21st to be confirmed today according to Irish times

You feel they'd be better off just announcing it tonight. Open from tomorrow and it would kick off a staggered opening. 21st announcement will make that day madness I feel.

I'd say the government thrilled with this latest silly brexit distraction

A Monday opening should facilitate some staggering (as in customer flow not actual staggering on the way out) in patrons anyway you'd imagine.

Just so happened I was off the 21st and 22nd and heading away for a long weekend. So 21st opening an added bonus

What exactly do you want? Pubs are opening in less than 2 weeks. COVID payments are not sustainable.

Keep the doors shut to minimise losses? Your post doesn’t make sense.

With effectively no tourists and lots of folk not going to risk frequenting pubs it's likely pubs won't be as profitable as before......... some will expect it reasonable for the gubernment to pick up that tab.

I wonder will they reiterate that people need to socially distance from people not in their household when these pubs open. People are not doing this and it's just inevitably going to spread the virus imo.

I can't see all the drinkers of the country staying seated with table service etc ......... and I don't think all publicans will step up either. Many of them are open (side door) now despite being closed (front door).

When they announce over 300 cases today , this might get questioned or shelved.

I meant more the groups of lads meeting from different households and sitting at the same table. With the football back etc. Hope people are sensible and understand distancing very important.

I wouldn't knock their anxiety, we've had more than a few false dawns on the reopening of pubs. September 21st may just be aspirational! It's still good to have a date to work towards with enough time to sort out guidelines completely.

Not for that, but the government should absolutely have supports in place for crushing an industry by keeping it closed during its peak months for far too long.

    or...until a mandatory vaccine is enforced.:pac:

You would hope the majority of pubs will stick to the rules and not try and get in as much profit as possible for fear they might be closed again by December, it must be an awful spectre to have over their shoulder.

Lots of businesses are in the same boat due to the restrictions.

Go to any shopping centre and try to find a group of friends hanging out. You probably won't see many. Masks, sanitizer in each shop, changing rooms closed etc. It is not really a social environment anymore.

Same goes for the cinema. I don't anybody that has been to one recently.

Same applies to pubs that are selling food. Lots of people can't be bothered to make a booking, order a set amount of food and have a time limit and curfew in place.

The economy is going to suffer badly until we get rid of the restrictions.
