Was it not mentioned by NPHET last week that flu shots to vulnerable and at risk groups should be free ?
Or is that just an aspiration by the boardsies and I am dreaming ?

    Remember similar or maybe not

No ifs or buts, we just have to find a better way of doing dying in a pandemic in a nursing home or hospital, in safe but better way for the person and their family.
That being said I know some people did mange to get into the hospitals and nursing homes to say their farewells but it was very scattered approach.(not blaming anyone)

    I would volunteer for that.

I would think one of the issues would not just be protecting others in the nursing home , but I do know there was worries about the grieving family also getting the virus , loved ones were not allowed to have open caskets at funerals even , for example .
It is possible for controlled short visits using PPE but can you imagine how hard to stop family holding or hugging their dying relative .
It is cruel , this virus .

Pneumonia vaccine is free for the at risk and over 65's, it's worth getting.

Interesting that more women died in Ireland than men. In most countries male deaths outnumber female 2:1. I wonder if this may be simply down to the fact more women reside in nursing homes than men and we had a lot of nursing home deaths and outbreaks.

I still think maybe that more women than men live in poverty in this country especially in the older age groups, less private pensions, less medical insurance, less wealth from male favoring inheritance laws etc and not just because women live chronologically a bit longer.

    Bring them home if possible.

Awful thing is , don't think that was allowed. Stricter regulations during a pandemic .

Would be interesting to see the gender breakdown in all the age groups ?

I saw a new type of position recently that I would like to do, it is called a death doula, like a midwife/husband except for those who are dying, That is what I would volunteer for so.So you would work alongside palliative care and free up nursing and doctors to do their thing... especially if family cant make it for what ever reason covid or not.

Even if it is just holding a hand and gently talking/singing/praying with the person while they pass away. I think it is one of the most precious gifts that one could do for another fellow human being or any sentient species.

    Where did you see that?
Volunteered for ALONE but they were overwhelmed with volunteers and didn't get the call up

Even with the mandatory face-covering policy, why is the number of Covid cases still rising?

Because we are testing a whole load more people

It is not here in Ireland yet(we do have a small amount of birth doulas) but I was reading up on it from people who do it abroad. Will try and find a link and post the next time I am here if you are interested

A lot more people mixing since the last restrictions level was changed, additionally schools are back. I'd say if we can keep it below 300 tomorrow we are doing very very well. A rise would be expected with schools opening and the overflow from weekend testing.

Serious lack of Social distancing going on in this video.
    Shaking hand!
    Way too many people indoors.

Someone should really tell them there is a deadly virus doing the rounds with pandemic potential.

I watched it too. The journey's that people shared were incredible and I nearly cried watching it but didn't. The lad who woke up from a coma and discovered his mother died - I mean like, how does someone get over that? Heartbreaking. All of the stories people told tonight.

Everyone who's not taking this covid seriously should be ashamed of themselves.

We have had about 800 excess deaths because of Covid but many more will have been affected by the restrictions on funerals and not able to say goodbye to loved ones. We will also be facing many issues of diagnoses not made as a result of the shutting down of our hospitals. Pity that we did not properly use the capacity that was created in the private hospitals.

Hopefully a lesson from all this is that we will actually properly invest in our health system and take on the vested interests.

I wish they would just announce the restrictions for Dublin now. The sooner they start, the sooner they will end. Its the continuous threats from NEPHID that I cant stand. Feel like I am walking on eggshells at the moment.

I cant see them open wet (sorry) pubs soon. It would be a very brave government to open pubs outside Dublin and possibly impose additional restrictions in Dublin.

PS I dont want restrictions, however those damn numbers just keep rising!

They will not be shutting down Dublin. Perhaps the new plan will have levels of restrictions such as in NZ which will have different restrictions depending on outbreaks (not a bad idea) but if they want to control cases in Dublin, the most optimum solution will probably be to close the schools.

My own view is that if/when Dublin has restrictions, schools will be ok. Politically, you would be putting Dublin children at a disadvantage compared to other counties. I suspect schools will only be closed as a last resort.

BBC really wheeling out the misery merchants.
Someone should just tell them to Man Up, get over it and stop being so negative.
    What is their agenda?

Coronavirus: 'Long Covid' patients need treatment programme, doctors say
Greater NHS support is needed for people chronically ill for months with Covid-19 symptoms, experts have told BBC Radio 4's File on 4.
The Royal College of GPs is calling for a national network of "post-Covid" clinics to help such people.

Any truth to this video going around of a HSE report that the proper number of deaths from covid 19 is 100?

My uncle's father's grandson sent it to me on whatsapp, so it must be true.
