I have one friend that literally posts absolute lies (not opposing arguments) like for instance last week he posted this

    https://images.app.goo.gl/khvLRr8QepJ9sDmE8

It is complete lies but instead of checking posted. Once shown it is fake, no acceptance.

    Every conspiracy straight away published.

He’s on every march, no mask and has now turned into an anti vaxxer. I haven’t met up with him since March (and he is one of my best mates because I am worried that he could transmit something to me and I transmit to my parents (only seen them twice).

We do chat regularly but don’t even bring it up.

Sky also ran that story about pcr testing not being able to distinguish between live and dead traces of the Corona virus. A few newspapers too. Came from a uk study. The whole idea is not to just rely on pcr testing but to combine it with antibody testing

But if it was that it would be at least some way sane. The viral post was saying that it wouldn’t work at all and the test couldn’t distinguish between Covid and the measles or flu or Ebola. Making people not get tested.

    Send that to your friend.

It is true though that the test picks up both live and "old virus. The rest is not true

He’d call that bill gates manifesto. His feed is basically one after the other of Facebook warnings of removed content due to being false misleading and untrue.

I didn't know that Facebook have decided to choose what is true and what isnt. Zuckerberg must be losing potential money somewhere for him to make that decision

Just had a look there. It’s a black lock and says ‘this content is not available anymore’. It is probably from the original shared source that’s removed it rather than Facebook.

It has not killed 880000. Such nonsense. I suggest continuing your previous approach with respect to these threads. Deaths are generally counted "with" covid and not just where covid was the main cause.

In Ireland for example, we have more detailed insight into our data and we know it is the most conservative number possible as it includes deaths of people who were probably infected with covid as well as those who had contacted it at the time they had died (ie they can't say they died from it). Other stats on the deaths since that is what you are focusing on; the median age of all those dying "with" covid is actually higher than the median age for life expectancy in Ireland meaning it is no more harmful to the really old people and is no more harmful than just being old. In addition, underlying conditions prior to covid were noted in something like 90% of deaths. This is all despite the median age of infections being 48.

It is the flu without a vaccine for the vulnerable and nothing here justifies the type of action you are calling for.
    this is correct.
Unfortunately some of the poorer countries probably have many deaths unaccounted for.
It is probably already above 1 million.

China's death toll cannot be believed for example.

Yep. We just agree not to argue about it.

It used to be a commonplace that people would not argue about politics and religion where it was likely to lead to conflict.

Also I think the mass media/official point of view makes opposing views seem more fringe than they are. There are always at least 100,000 to a million people in this country who disagree with the 'popular'/official position on anything. There is no unanimity but there is sometimes the strong illusion of unanimity.

Dark days ahead guys. The specter of death will loom closer as the nights get darker and colder. We will watch every evening on RTE as the death numbers creep back up, a growing sense of fear and terror will envelop us as sound of the grim reaper sharpening his scythe becomes clearer going forward. It’s going to be a tough winter but I am confident that our leadership will steer the course through it all, holding firm to keep us as safe as possible. namaste

Either we will be grand or we are walking into a winter of misery and sorrow.

Dint worry about it because you can't control it. Leave it to MM and Stephen Donnelly . They are in charge

You are correct that it is a fact. Sadly nature has.
But there is one tiny, teeny problem when someone says "Nature has always thinned the herd" (or there other) and that's it never applies to ourselves or our loved ones when we use it ;)

We are are all descendent of the strong as over millions of years only the strong have survived long enough to reproduce.

Was actually surprised to see the contrast between here and there. I find boards quite black and white, with a bit of grey here and there. Reddit is black all the way though. End of the world stuff with anything positive or optimistic generally buried in downvotes.

What deaths Paddy? 99.9% of us won't die from it better chance of piano falling on you. Early mistakes and high deaths won't be repeated. You can get down from the lookout tower.

Also it does get fresher, there are a couple of lads who post it here about 5 hours before.

Not necessarily the strong, whatever trait at the time was advantageous. Such advantageous traits change over time and from place to place, so it’s quite complex.

Cases look just as high as first peak but deaths less than 20 each day. More die with flu each day in france on average than that. Yes more testing etc. etc. but still when flu is killing more than covid even though 5k cases per day not a bad sign

Genuine question - do you not think the rising CT numbers is a bad sign? To me it is very concerning, but happy to hear a positive slant on it

Cork did a Killarney on it last night, outrage and sore cheeks imminent..

Other theory is that it was spreading in France (and other places) late last year, maybe to same extent as it is now, but with zero testing and >20 daily deaths, it was under the radar. This would arguably be good news, as if it starts ramping up to where they were in March/April in death numbers, we’d likely see 10x/20x/Nx the cases they had back then, meaning IFR is lower.

If it is not killing very many at all this is a good thing.

They have maybe 4 times as many cases currently as us per capita.

Yet it is killing one person per day based on a population of 5 million.

In our country that would mean if cases rise 4 fold we will have deaths of one a day. More die with flu each year. Time will tell. Listen to Ivor Cummins, he says we are no longer in a pandemic but a casedemic. Lots of cases very little illness. He thinks it's all over but in name only. I hope he's right.Ive an open mind hope for the best...

Ireland could face 10,000 coronavirus cases a day by Christmas if measures are not put in place to stop its spread, an expert warned yesterday.
