ONE kid with a mask... just like nothing is up... going home to family... probably siblings or parents with asthmas or other underlying issues... depressing... you can educate all day but if kids dont wanna listen... parents though.. gotta start parenting.. i know that is unfashionable but....

So you want kids to stop acting like kids? Humans are a social animal it's in our nature , even moreso in children. Do you want parents to chaperone their children 24/7?

ALL of what you listed? Talk about changing the goalposts.
Wuhan, France, Spain and Italy's lockdown rules were all stricter than ours.
You can charge us with being slower to come out of lockdown but to pretend we were micro-managed more strictly than in other countries is fantasy stuff.

It shows how trivial some of our concerns are today here that people are getting worked up about having to pay for a meal to get a drink.
Considering the scale of the restrictions in the above countries in March.

It's not about whether the restrictions are trivial compared to what other countries endured back in March. It's about getting pissed off with stupid restrictions that are extremely dubious at best in fighting the virus, and which are impacting on people's ability to have a reasonable social engagement in controlled environment, without being told to feck off when they've barely had the last spoon of their desert. Bull**** carry on of the highest order ;)

Sitting in a car park furiously tapping away and getting enraged about some kids mucking about. What don't you just call the Guards and be done with it. End of the world. The Stasi is alive and well.

Honest to God. Would you listen to yourself....rolleyes.png

They said 5th years not 5 year olds. They should be more than aware of how to social distance and wear a mask.

My niece who is in 5th year has been complaining about other students in her class who completely ignore the rules as soon as they get outside the gates of the school, she's worried about the inevitable cases getting into her school from them. It's possible to be 16 years old and not a complete self centred idiot.

Unreal I cannot understand how this fixes the issue of pubs not currently adhering, so instead of an empty plate they need a piece of paper to show Gardai if they call?

I think there is less chance of the names/number register being accurate now that food choice & price needed next to them. This is in the premises which are not adhering correctly.

It is unfair for publicans doing things correctly seeing business's not following rules.

The thing with the restaurants/pubs operating as restaurants having to keep records of food consumed for 28 days...what’s the point of this? Surly this all becomes irrelevant anyway once wet pubs open, which some things seem to indicate could be in a few weeks. Or is this a sign that they won’t be opening?

Will they check IDs or can I just call myself Donald Doolin and give the number for Dept of Health?

Ireland instead of easing restrictions seem to be going the other way.

Is there a complete lack of an eiot strategy or just the Gov do not have the balls to make hard decisions?

Wear a mask outdoors, why? 5 th years are still kids. Your niece sounds very mature. Policing others and expecting them to behave in a way that mitigates ones worry is not always possible. Point still stands, not withstanding your niece kids will be kids.

    98 new cases 0 deaths

If 98 cases reported the seven day average will be down to 105 per day, last Friday the seven day average was 120

    Terrible. Absolutely terrible.

Iv'e argued the standard of parenting in Ireland is very low several times on here but been told im a curtain twitcher etc.. Parents need to be held accountable for their kids actions.

Why? What's the point? Would you not want to be contacted of you were in at risk of having picked up the virus? It's easier to just give your own details.
It may seem amusing or to be getting one over on some organ of the state but why?

Has the penny not dropped yet? Covid 19 is out there among us. Full stop. You cannot see it or hear it.

We must all learn to live with it and stop this ridiculous State intervention and acting like there is some zombie invasion. Covid 19 is essentially harmless to 97-98% of the population. Yes, persons at risk need to be extra cautious and nobody wants to get it.

Some people are slow on the uptake.

The point being that many people have privacy concerns and rather than the state recording what they are eating and drinking they may well decide not to give accurate information. This is why these types of controls are bad ideas. Not to mention punishing the many for the actions of the few.

Car crash of an interview yet again. He has a handful of PR advisors which don't seem to be doing much good.

Basically said its not his fault that nobody consulted any industry representatives. He said its a whole of government issue. Sorry your the minister for health bringing forward the legislation so its your issue.

Also said NPHET came up with the €9 meal rule. Glynn said last week they didn't.

He skirted around any difficult questions by rambling

So do tell. What is the internationally accepted standard of parenting these days?

I would have to hazard that you are not a parent with that type of nonsense.

From what I've read it is a willingness to have your child in a heightened state of fear, wearing a mask at all times and unwilling to engage in any social activities with their peers. Open to correction of course.

Last 24 hours will probably be another day of 12,500 - 13,000 tests completed. Which will give in the region of 130-190 positive tests if the rate remains the same.

If it's 98 new cases today, my concern is that will leave us with a backlog of 100ish positive cases (30-odd yesterday, 60-odd today) going into the weekend.

OTOH if the positivity rate today is well under 1% then it could be a very good news day.

@Wolf359f posted up the seven day total positive Swabs yesterday (760) and total Positive cases (670) excluding yesterdays 95 cases.

With that it mind we should only have the few backlog cases from today added in tomorrow.

That's one I hadn't heard about Florida doing checking of VAT receipts to allow only food pubs to open - can you link something on this, sorry can't find it (not suggesting it's incorrect).

Jack Daniels point is absolutely fair imo. You'll find lots of countries doing certain things, but Ireland is doing it all. His main points about how long you can spend at a place, how much money you need to spend on food are OTT precautions only applying here. Scotland as you linked has a limit on people, which is worldwide, but isn't saying get the feck out after 1.5 hours and make sure you eat a substantial meal worth €9 (jesus, even the cost factor is bureaucratic nonsense, I'd nearly understand a minimum amount of calories e.g. plate of chips :) ).

The France reference is from last March, not sure if it is still in place today.

Regardless, the Government response led by Varadkar/Harris (neither of whom I like, but am beginning to admire when faced with MM and SD), called on the Irish people to make sacrifices to flatten the curve, and while not eradicating the virus, allow our health services to cope. Achieved. What's going on now is a feckin mess, there's no two ways about it. And most of the population are rightly getting sick of it.

My point was that in other countries the lockdown was far stricter and micro-managed. It is a fantasy to think we were unique in the level of micromanagement applied or control over our daily lives..
We are talking about the whole pandemic as that is relevant to the state's attitude.
In other countries they would have kept places shut or open, the rules here seem weird because they were trying to show flexibility and gives pubs a chance.
The substantial meal concept has been on the books for decades in other licencing legislation, it was just repurposed.

In Florida this was one set of measues:
In the initial June 26 order, businesses that derived more than 50 percent of their revenue from alcohol sales were not allowed to sell alcohol on-site, meaning any bar attempting to reopen with a food license would have to effectively operate as full restaurant. But less than a week later, on July 1, Beshears issued an amendment to that order: Now, bars that were also licensed to operate as restaurants could stay open, regardless of the 50 percent mandate.

    You guess incorrectly.

Kids are allowed run wild these days. Look at the poor lad killed by a few scummers in dublin on his bike recently. Parents probably dragged them up rather than raised them.

Is that the type of parent you are?

Maybe, maybe not. There are rumours that some private testing was taking place. As I replied & explained to wolf yesterday, the data on the dashboard relating to swabs comes from HSE and that doesn't take into account private testing. Its may be contributing to the discrepancy in swabs v cases announced
