I prefer this "let's all make a bit more effort" to the platitudes of "how much we've all done together".

I can't remember where I heard that... but this is gonna be a real winter.

Just wondering - are there any legal implications if parents do not send their kid to school due to pandemic reasons? I know there are some rules (and maybe legal too), but aren't the rules framed for non-pandemic peace times when attending school has no health hazard associated? What are the options now for parents who feel it is risky to send kid to school? What are the minimum measures to be taken to show that kid is being educated enough at home? Thanks so much in advance for guidance!

I'd put this post into the schools thread as there are lots of teachers on it.

By the new gods and the old they better call out the Night's Watch Army if that happens and lock the place down on general principles.

    It's crazy

In the UK 2 people died of Covid yesterday and 450 died of cancer on the same day

Many may have died either way but I'd agree it was silly to shut down cancer testing and screening. This country has a ridiculously high cancer death rate one of the highest if not the highest in Europe before any virus arrived. Any studies going on to find out why I'd wonder?

Do people even watch these press conferences ??

They literally just discussed this and it was said Dublin cases are in line with what would be expected.

Majority of cases are family and social settings with these concentrated in Dublin North Central, Dublin West and Dublin North West

No they haven't, they paused certain screening.

Also people with all sorts of disease including cancers have contracted Covid and died.

Cancer patients are included in the "vulnurable" that needs to be protected.

Best way to keep them and others protected is to keep instances of the virus as low as we can in the community.

But but but, car crashes, parachute accidents, etc.

Over 40,000 cases of cancer I diagnosed each year. Many of which are targeted in screening programs. How are these people to know they are vulnerable if they have not been detected?

Nolan suggesting it'll probably be used as a study in other countries with regards to asymptomatic spread

There's nothing new there, early outbreaks in meat factorys were the same, good few use the same place I grab my coffee every morning. My neighbor got it from working in one, his wife and kids didn't. I'm not convinced asymptomatic are as big a threat as we're lead to believe.
We need to shield the people it will most likely kill and keep it out of health care settings as best we can but I'm not seeing much point in testing asymptomatic or even reporting on them.
I'm expecting things to change as some point where it's sick people and clusters we concentrate on.

How do you know if asymptomatic or presymptomatic though.

Heard of similar. People who have been in prolonged contact with confirmed cases not even testing positive. I believe in a T Cell study their was a very small percentage of T Cell immunity 5% . Saw a video of a young man who looked after his sick mother throughout her Covid 19 illness with no PPE and he tested negative also.
