You watched the football, which was on for longer than 105 minutes,

I don't remember saying I watched more than 105 minutes of the football? I'm open to correction here.
€9 included food and a drink which isn't allowed either, they are to be separate purchases

The food was €9. The pint was free. Quite a clever way to stay inside the remits of the guidelines.

There is no mention of separate purchases in any of the guidelines. If there were, then every pub would be going against guidelines because all drinks and meals are paid for in one purchase upon finishing your booking.

I had one meal and I had seven pints of Guinness, all on the same purchase. Each pint as delicious as the last.

You said "I watched the community shield"

If you watch the whole match start to finish, half time and penalties you'd be outside the 105 even if you went in the second the match started.

And again we get it you dont need to keep repeating the same thing over and over again, the pints were delicious, I honestly doubt you actually go to a pub

    A very important word!

I highly doubt you watched part of a match. Who goes out to watch a portion of a game.

You love to play with words. A fantastic wind up merchant, I won't be feeding the troll after this post

Who said I went out to watch a game? I never said I did.

I went to the pub for pints. I went out for 4 - 5 pints but ended up having 7.

I'm not playing with words nor am I trolling.

You are simply misinterpreting my posts. They're all there in black and white. If you need clarification on anything, I am happy to discuss.

You'd have to ask your local TD on this one. I'm just a man who went to the pub for a few pints.

What happens in your head should remain there. Pubs have unfortunately been closed since March 15th. If you were out, which I very much doubt, you were in a restaurant or illegal sheebeen. The pubs are closed, for the next three weeks anyway. Hopefully they'll reopen soon after that.

Since August 2003, it is illegal in Ireland to sell alcohol at reduced prices for a limited period during any day.

Hence "free" pints with a €9 meal are indeed illegal and not within any guidelines.

The meal must cost €9 minmium when PURCHASING alcohol.

Thought so, spoofers need to keep up to date with all laws when spoofing. Less chance of being shown up as bluffers. :D

    I did indeed.

Could have been 6 but when I think more about it it was most likely 7.

    Get over yourself.
The guy went to a pub ffs. What are you trying to prove here exactly?

I doubt he went out at all. Also, pubs are closed due to the pandemic. It’s been all over the news.

Wetherspoons do this all the time though? Includes a beer etc.

Might be wrong but i thought the law stated that you couldnt have two different prices during one period, ie from opening to closing? I think if the offer lasts all day, its ok

Enough is enough. This thread has been spiralling into a black hole for quite some time, and the repetitive circular sniping about the number of pints taken in a place that's not supposed to be open has become more than boring, and there's nothing new been added to this thread for longer than I can remember.

Clearly, there are a significant number of people who just do not want to face or accept that Covid is here, is killing people and if not managed correctly, (and that is a discussion for another thread), it still has the potential to cause massive problems for a significant number of people and the very limited reources of a chronically underfunded and badly managed health service.

"wet" pubs, and that is unfortunately a very accutate and valid description are not essential to life, however you look at it, so they, along with other non essential services are not needed during a time when nothing is normal.

    That simple.

I'm out of this thread, I can't take any more of the nonsense that's being repetitively and monotonously regurgitated to justify the unjustifiable.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Goodbye. I was going to ask what else you'd class as non essential services. But I guess we'll never know

Price of beer is included in the meal. There's no buy a burger, get a free pint option. For example, Tennessee burger is €10.85 with a soft drink, but €12.85 with an alcoholic drink.

But the pint costs less when bought with the meal.

In a pub at the weekend, went in about 7 with few buddies. Had food, tables were well spaced out, I had to wear a mask everytime I left my table to go to the bar and toilet, this was strictly enforced. We got talking to the table behind us, they then moved over to ours but they were told they had to keep to their own table. Bar closed at 11 which was a pity as I was only just starting to get into the mood. Oh well, a very sensible setup while ignoring this 105 min nonsense.

Generally I would agree with you. Wet pubs are not essential but peoples livelihoods are caught up in pubs. It could be small family pubs in rural places as one example. Many of these places will probably never be able to open again. There will be budget in October, the government will have to cut the spending no doubt and that would mean a cut in welfare payments and other expenditure. Do you think many people planned for this going into the last new year? Where so many lifes are just turned upside down? There is also the social aspect to do with a rural pub for locals to sit and meet, especially for older people who may not meet much people in their days.

We also see the effects of last recession ongoing today. With the costs of renting and mortgages through the roof. Our government put their heads into the sand for a long time about the housing crisis. Where are people supposed to go to when they lose their livelihoods and their homes?

This is great to hear. Sounds like the pub you frequented took full advantage of the current measures whilst using common sense to make sure that they provided you with a good experience, in turn allowing them to run a business and thrive in a difficult global situation.

I must say, i'm looking forward to my next pub trip!

On the free pint/€9 thing. The act states that

"A substantial meal is being defined as one that might be expected to be served as a main midday or evening meal or as a main course in either such meal”.

It was Failte ireland who tacked on.

"and will be required to be of a kind for which it would be reasonable to charge not less than €9.”

I'm reading that as, don't give them anything you wouldn't charge €9 for, not you have to charge €9.

So if a publican was doing a nachos and a pint for €9, but was charging €9 for the nachos in the before times...... I really don't see how he's skirting guidelines.

Agreed. The nachos were a similar (if not, identical) price the last time I was in this particular pub approx a year previous.

It was a very substantial portion. Covered in chili-con-carne, jalapenos etc. They were a very nice accompaniment to the pints.

How does it? An average pint in Spoons is about €4. How is it cheaper with a meal?
