Is there a need to change how we report Covid cases in the country? I note that RTE still refer to the total number of cases since March. Referencing 27000 cases where over 20000 of which were in the period before June is at this point of time misleading.
    Yep. Useless.

7 or 14 day averages would be much more useful.

Also hospitalisations. If we had a million cases and no hospitalisations we wouldn't be all that worried, but if hospitalisations are increasing we know we have a problem.

Yes, but the pubs are closed, so we're ok.

but the pubs in the North are open, and I know plenty of people who pop over for weekend breaks or a few pints in a pub over the border, which is not in keeping with the whole national effort to keep this thing from spreading.

The Chinese traffic light social crediting system is here but thankfully from the comments and number of dislikes, people aren't having it.
    No vaccine, no travel.

Passengers on a flight from Greece to Cardiff were asked to self isolate.

Someone on the flight came out saying they weren't surprised because there were covidiots in the plane not wearing their masks properly. Mask around the chin, under their nose, passengers taking their mask off walking down the isle to talk to others.

They need to educate people on why masks are worn and should not be coming off if you're with other people. Very dangerous behaviour using masks and not using them properly.

35 in hospital, Highest number in a number of months. The last week or so have seen a worrying increase

Hospital don't really discharge over the weekend but still admit, generally see large numbers being discharged on Monday and Tuesday (Not just a covid thing either). It will be lower by Wednesday

"Life after covid" - but before the article scares you, note that this guy was also diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia, sepsis and a chest infection. Even if the covid data was questionable in terms of it not showing covid to be pretty harmless, the fact the media are using hyperbole to create the impression of covid being serious should be enough of a reason for people to not buy into the BS. They could just stick to the facts and let them speak for themselves.

I'm a subscriber but it has clearly been struggling and reverts more to clickbait with its own journalists' articles, then pads the rest of the publication with copy and paste jobs from AP, the FT and Reuters.

Matched with a nice lady on Tinder but it turned out she thinks the coronavirus is a hoax :( Tbf, she had said she didn't usually have much luck with Saggitarians, so I guess I was forewarned.

Covid can cause all those ailments to occur.

How do some of you spend so much time reading about this stuff and learn nothing?

Sorry, you seem to know something that hasn't been published with that person's diary. Can you point out where covid caused those issues for this man?

I will add to the above that this man is 49 and seems to drink heavily and regularly, talking of 3 heavy nights in one week around Paddy's Day. Hardly a beacon of health.

It is for me. I have to keep refreshing.
It keeps reverting to 06:20am this morning. Odd.

The numbers are creeping up. Last week high 20's into 30's, previous week high teens to 20's. Previous to that low teens to low 20's.
It was about mid July they seems to flatten at around 10 or so and about the start of August they started to creep back up.

How many on this thread would support this
Health Passport Ireland - supposedly being piloted at the moment and to be brought into schools, nursing homes, etc.
Basically our civil rights gone & living under the complete control of the state.

Prof Luke O’Neil was on Newstalk just now actually promoting this:

he has new book out available for pre-order, so expect more of him in the media.

This site is going to the dogs, the only thing that would have them pull the finger out and sort these ongoing issues would be an exodus to another site.

They obviously don't feel an investment is worth it.

So right on que we have this week/ends dose of righteous outrage via some young people dancing/singing in the street
Have people's lives become so pathetically empty that this is top news days? Despair for this place, I really do.

Their trying this outdoor socialising crack on o connell sheet n Limerick at the moment. Looks utterly depressing. Give me my old rural Irish pub any day of the week. We don't have the climate for this to be a success.

When I lived in Cork City you could walk around town in the depts of winter and see folk sitting outside the cafes/restaurants, even early morning. They wore their jackets/coats. Fair enough if its p!ssing sideways you wont be oitside but you prob wouldnt be bothered leaving the house either.

Awnings, umbrellas infrared heaters etc can make the experience more comfortable.

Have to laugh at the weekly outrage, I'm like turn the other cheek and we'll slap it again. Won't be any face left to mask in a few weeks the cheeks will have fallen off them all...
