a few things i have noticed from tweets, announcements etc over the weekend from Leo and Micheal. On friday micheal came out and said we need to put a plan in place to open wet pubs, big drip feed message here that there thinking of opening them, there was a part of me fairly sure they would leave them until January 2021. But i would think financially they need xmas tax revenue plus the image and pr side of things as being the taoiceseach and government that cancelled christmas, Leo would never let that happen his image. The government have pretty much said they are not going for covid zero approach but instead live with the virus, this is going very much against NYPHET thinking and most medics. Leos tweet at 6:30pm yesterday evening was the most telling i think . He said that case high numbers in ireland and europe was concerning but deaths were now very low, 7 days in a row without a death in ireland. and went on to say there still so much to learn about the virus. now to me thats code for , " we are goin the living with the virus approach, so we are going to start gettig back to living with it" e.g were opening the pubs and prob letting some numbers back to matches. what it looks like to me is they know like every dog on the street at this stage that we are not going to be Italy/Spain/UK , we keep our vulnerable people relativley out of harms way , we will have feck all more deaths, no more than normal anyway, and the chances of people dyeing of covid and only covid as contributing factor is tiny. i feel they are getting ready to let the curtin twitchers brigade down gently that there dream is beginiing to die and its time to get life back to normal. IMO Pubs will open first week in october, 3 weeks out from a bank holiday. they leave it any longer into november you are getting people very excited and very close to xmas. id say they will want spikes to come and go from pubs well before xmas. lets be honest i thiink we need to stop even looking at case numbers , and watch death numbers.

a nurse said a very teling thing to me last night , she said there could well be something or some virus we dont even know about thats out there right now killing people and we dont even know it. look at cancer kills way more people but cigerattes are not banned. people live and die by the choices they make. it up to them.

Was the trailer parked there in February?

no, because back then there was no food and the PUB, it was just a PUB.

guess what, ? that PUB is still a PUB, the trailer is the thing providing the food for the PUB.
The PUB is the very same PUB as it was before and during the covid.
People drank inside and outside, before and during the covid.

Adding a trailer did not mean the PUB ceased being a PUB.

I knew we would eventually get there.
Do me a favour and explain this to the others having severe difficulty comprehending this.
And tell them all their pathetic crying on the internet wont change anything.

Yes, you can also get a pint in the lighthouse cinema and bring it to the movie with you, doesn't make screen 1 a pub

By Jove you might finally be getting it.

A pint in a cinema does not make it a pub is the point

A sandwich or scabby pizza from a van parked outside a PUB, does not make it a restaurant.

I think you might finally be getting it....well done

    With you so far...

People drank inside and outside, before and during the covid.

So it added something and changed its business model
Adding a trailer did not mean the PUB ceased being a PUB.

Adding the resteraunt function, because they can't open unless they operate as a resteraunt, changed it from a pub to a resteraunt
I knew we would eventually get there
    .

I still think your struggling with the idea.
And tell them all their pathetic crying on the internet wont change anything.

It'll fill time till the pubs reopen, because pubs are closed......

You'd swear you'd never had a pint in your life

What do you call a place where you go to get a meal and also get a few drinks for more or less hour slots?

    A restaurant.

Where do you go to get served pints.

    A pub.

How many pubs are closed right now?

    Several sources estimate 3,500.

14 deaths in the last month despite around 2500 cases. No deaths in 8 days. No ICU admissions in 4 days.

Winterflu season kills 200-500 over the 4 months of winter. Between 50-125 deaths per month.

We can open pubs for Flu season but not this has-been virus. It is nonsense. It is anti-alcohol. Not covid, Anti-alcohol.

    14 deaths

I wish they would tell us the ages/underlying conditions of those 14.

    The con is unraveling fast.

You know what, I think we can end the thread here. This poster has absolutely nailed it.

If I went to the cinema and watched a movie, adding a pint and consuming it on the cinema premises does not make it a pub.

Just like going to the pub, having delicious pints and adding a plate of nachos to this doesn't make it a restaurant.

It's a good way of putting it at the end of the day.

I'm looking forward to my next trip to the pub.

They were quite clever actually, they were doing a deal whereby the food was €9 but when you ordered it you got a free pint.

I had some nachos. They really hit the spot

Great news, and a really strong vindication of the measures that have been put in place.

    It's not anti alcohol.
At the height of our restrictions, restaurants were closed - stand alone off licences were not.

It is anti the behaviour that happens when people meet up just for drinking... inhibitions diminished... awareness of need for distancing, hygiene etc reduced.

Flu doesn't have the same potential to overwhelm our hospitals that this virus has.

What has happened to the Minimum Pricing thing MUP?

What has happened to the IVA and the LVA's power now?

The Gov has won for now IMO. Always wanted a Cafe culture and now we have it.

    wah wah wah,....

what are you hoping to achieve with all this crying ?
If you are a publican that has been shut then you have my sympathy, but if you are not a publican or an employee, why are you so emotionally invested ?

Why is it imperative to you that pubs are so important during a global pandemic, how are you personally affected ?

You made you point over and over an over how you think its unfair some pubs are closed.....we get it, get over it and move on.
All this crying wont change the ruling.

    ....
Imagine that....but I am sure some people in a desperate effort to deflect, will attack the poster instead of the content of the post.
Reduced to calling people liars now are we ?

    Keep showing yourself up.
Cry, deflect, make up lies, spin things to suit an agenda, attack the poster, label people trolls etc, but it wont change the fact you are wrong, plain and simple.

Not every pub open is a restaurant, You are lying and people know you are lying.
and not only do you know I am right, the rest of the forums know it, and the more you cry and try twist things the more sadder you look.

    carry on
Ha....this is priceless watching you making an utter buffoon of yourself.
Odd how all the times I was in that pub in the past, the pub you now claim is a restaurant, and the best you could get was a bag of tayto.

But now you have decided a pub with no kitchen, no food and has to depend on a parked up food van is a restaurant.

Keep repeating nonsense to yourself in the hope you might even convince yourself, you are not convincing anyone else.
Is English your first language, or am I wrongly crediting you as being normal ?
I quite clearly stated there is a food van, it is not part of the premises, there is the pub and the van, 2 separate entities.....are you still with me ?

There is the pub....that is the concrete building, and there is the trailer, that is the thing on wheels, serving the food they are not the same thing.
Because of the thing on wheels, the thing serving food, the PUB is open...yes, the PUB.
By Jove you might finally be getting it.

The scenes in Killarney is a good example of why Pubs should remain closed, alcohol diminishes peoples reasoning re distancing etc

Give it a couple of weeks, if there isn’t a spike from schools opening the pubs will be opened soon enough.

Was it? Not disputing you at all, but I suppose it has all been overtaken by the Covid restrictions.

Still the off licences are open and the non food pubs are closed. I though MUP was designed to get people back in the pubs and not buy cheap grog in the off licences?

These scenes were on the street, not in a pub. We dont know where they were drinking.
